I played the heck out of Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast, but I lost interest with Crazy Taxi 2 because they "fixed" the controls - making it a lot more difficult for me to pull off slides and crazy dashes (in the first DC game, you basically just turned while pressing A+B at the same time to slide). The "broken" controls of the first DC version was like 1000% easier than the arcade version. I guess they thought broke the game. But the "fixed" controls made the game harder and less fun so ... I just kept on playing the first DC game. I actually think about Crazy Taxi when I play Stunt Mode in Rush 2049 (DC version). It has a lot of the same fun factor, but the controls simply use the B button to control stunts. No tricky control combos, but it's just fun. Maybe Crazi Taxi could have been more successful if they offered simplified controls or something.

The issue is the game becomes very short and repetitive if you haven’t learned the moves it requires to achieve really high scores. If you don’t play that way the game isn’t crazy at all and it’ll be over in a few minutes. You can talk about CT to nearly anyone who was alive around that time and they’ll be excited to talk of it. If they play it it’s unlikely they’re any good because the game doesn’t explain what you should do to get better very well. My favorite version of original CT is on Dreamcast. My goal is $100K and my PB is $85K.

I think it's important to note that the reason that Sega sued the Simpson's game, and the reason crazy taxi games weren't a thing for years (except for shovelware only sold in Europe) is that Sega owned a few patents related to the game (like the giant arrow that Simpson's changed with the pointy hand that is functionally the same thing). Now that's crazy.

I'm dying for someone to make a new Crazy Taxi, a spiritual successor, whatever, and get it right. I feel like there are other weird twists and turns you could do with the series to spice up its wonderful, but simple, concept. I think I had a dream once where I played a Crazy Taxi meets Mad Max kind of game, where you drove one of those ridiculous souped up cars out of Mad Max, taxied people through the desert while other cars rammed you, and your passengers would rate you in goofy sounding ways (like if you didn't do very well, they'd yell "MEDIOCRE!" as they hopped out)

I had said it years ago that a new Uber-inspired Crazy Taxi game would have the player change cars throughout the game a la GTA, each with their own specs and features. Imagine starting with an old 1999 Corolla, then you move up to the Crown Victoria (tight drifting), the Cadillac Cutlass Supreme (attracts better fare payouts), the Corvette (highest speed), the Monster F-350 (nothing can smash it), and you end with VR-Temjin from Virtual ON (which can jump high and jet).

Games released half finished or/and buggy as hell, taking upwards to a year plus to got into a semblance of playability, and added to that the enablers who only continue to validate this to continue with preorder, day one sales and defending the scumbaggery of said releases. Confidence is at an all-time low and until this huge issue is addressed, i can't see this game releasing in an acceptable state which will only further sully its legacy.
