Git Gud At Crazy Taxi Techniques And Execution Tips

This is a guide to help explain the tricks and techniques you will need to practice to succeed in Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast, PS2, PSP, NGC, and of course at the Arcade.
I am an expert retro gamer that just wants to talk about game play all day long. Unfortunately "gameplay" is a rare conversation to have in the current retro gaming sphere here on KZbin. The retro gaming community needs help from guys like me that hold the knowledge of the ancient scrolls of retro games. I want to make these types of gaming tutorial videos to get people more into gaming retro and not so much about buying/hoarding retro. Basically I want to make the retro gaming videos I want to see, but cant find.
Explaining a game as great and complex as Crazy Taxi proved to be harder than I imagined. I feel like a 20 minute video will get anyone's feet wet and start improving immediately. But the game is dense and to explain it all is a little like teaching an aikido class.

Its awesome people are finding this video helpful. I told myself if it even got 1 thousand views I'd do a part 2. There are other technics and mechanics I left out of the video that slipped my mind. I dont know when ill get into making another video like this. It takes hours to make a concise tutorial video. But I am an expert at most retro games of all kinds and have knowledge to share with the retro gaming masses. Not just crazy taxi, but all games. I think if you know how to do something and there isnt a video on how to do it, than you have a due diligence to share and teach your knowledge. even if it is just playing old video games. Everyone making tutorials on youtube for no money are the true heros of our time. Im glad I helped all of you. This game rulez and I want you to enjoy as much if not more as I do

At higher speeds the crazy stop only works if you perform a crazy dash (here called crazy boost) right before.

You really nailed down the "holding a button", is as much of an action as "pressing the button," a lot of people don't get that... And your explanation of how the cab "catches" the boost was perfect! Hey! I dont yet have a dreamcast but I really wanna play Crazy Taxi. I do have a PS2 and GC, in your opinion, are these suitable versions? I might pick up a DC later this year but wanted to get your thoughts regardless

yep they are carbon copy ports on those systems. literally nothing is altered. the dreamcast version can run in 480p though so if you are planning on playing on LCD that will be the best graphics out of those systems. the ps2 controller sucks to drive with in this game though, so if you are picking up a DC sometime, i guess wait for that. the DC triggers are great

Its better than nothing, but KinkKush is correct. Basically its a Sega game made for a Sega console. Then haphazardly ported to all the other platforms. I started on ps2 and then got a DC and it was a huge difference in polish. You will get a much more robust experience on DC or the real arcade machine. You wouldn't play smash bros melee on a xbox controller, right

Funny thing is I drive a cab now (I was born in '91, so I was 10ish when I played Crazy Taxi) and once in a while I blast The Offspring through the sound system while I drive like a maniac 😂

the arcade version runs on Naomi hardware which is basically a souped up Dreamcast.
