I had the privilege of working on the gt90 ~6 years back when it was brought out of one private collection and sold to another. True story is that ford accidentally sold it for $1 to the first private owner as part of a lump prototype vehicle lot purchase which were to be destroyed or disassembled. This private owner had a contract with Ford for hauling and storing prototypes and show cars and was storing it at the time. When Ford realized what happened, the deal was legally done and an agreement was made that it would be forever preserved and not dismantled. I was tasked with making it run again. Petty wild setup, could clearly see where two cut up 32v 4.6 blocks were welded together into the v12. The turbos were completely fake however. The exhaust went through a turbine housing, but it was an empty turbo and the intake tract went straight from 90s Era Ford taurus air boxes to the intake manifolds. The chassis was crazy cool though, lots of billet aluminum cross members and aero tubing control arms. Whole oil pan was a billet dry sump setup also. I have pictures and a video of it running somewhere on a memory card.

The GT90 supposedly has a drag coefficient of .32 as compared to the Veyron's .36 in top speed mode. Bob Natkin, the designer of the GT90's engine, was quoted in a 1995 issue of Motortrend as saying the 720HP figure was produced with 6-8 PSI, but was capable of 900HP with the boost turned up. This car would have held the top speed record for sure.

I just want modern game developers to appreciate the insane - yet completely realistic - concept cars of this time period. The Ford GT90 and the Chrysler ME 4-12 could have been world-beaters were it not for the profit-driven suits in power at the time, and it's so sad that these insane automobiles have been entirely forgotten about. The last game appearance for the GT90? 16 years ago, in Ford Street Racing. The ME 4-12? 15 years ago in Forza Motorsport 2. Some refresher stats on these early hypercars: in 1995, the GT90 concept was debuted with a 720hp at only 3200 lbs, quad-turbocharged V12. For reference, the 1995 Ferrari F50 was only putting out 512hp at 2,700 lbs, and the McLaren F1 was putting out 618hp at 2,500 lbs. The GT90 was a serious competitor of the McLaren F1!! The ME 4-12 was putting out 850hp in 2004, at a weight of only 2,900 lbs in AWD. The Ferrari Enzo was only doing 651hp at the same curb weight, and the Carrera GT was in similar spec at a slightly higher weight. Top speeds? 248 mph for the ME 4-12. 253 mph for the GT90 (possibly over' -exaggeraged, but probable). Had the Wall Street suits let Ford and Chrysler do their thing with the GT90 and ME Four-Twelve, the modern hypercar world would be unrecognizable compared to what we have now.

One I will NEVER forget is the 2004 Chrysler ME Four-Twelve with the 850 HP 6.0 L Mercedes-Benz M120 Quad Turbo V12. If produced, it would've been the most powerful/fastest production car at the time with a claimed top speed of 248 mph. Most claimed top speeds are usually exaggerated or straight up lies. However, this one was very believable since the less powerful 720 HP 5.0 L Mercedes-Benz M119 Twin Turbo V8 in the Sauber C9 managed 248 mph at Le Mans in 1989. Yes it's a race car that weighted 950kg but it still had more drag, less cylinders, less turbos and less hp. While the Chrysler was 360kg heavier, it still had less drag, more cylinders, more turbos and more hp. With those stats, it could've probably done over 248 mph. Also, I feel like the latest Ford GT pays a lot of homage to the GT90 in the looks department as well as the GT40 it succeeded.

You say "Sadly", I say the NFS-II model was great for the time (better than what we saw in Empires "Ford Racing" series (though they got better with each version). My brain is old and tired, but I distinctly recall a statement that they had to disconnect 2 of the 4 turbos to start with because the XJ220 chassis twisted under load in early testing. And Clarkson mentioned the engineers being unsure the chassis could cope when he drove it. She was a nice looking car, even with that purple Mondeo steering wheel. I remember Clarkson being so pleased because he could fit (being devastated by the fact he is too tall to drive a GT40. And sure, it was a shame the world never got a production run of GT90s, but the Ford GT isn't a bad consolation prize.
