I've been using the hit the bass technique for years. I use it the most when the bass just sits there & nothing works. You can drag the bait over it's back & they just sit there & not even show any interest. That's when I'll take a flipping jig or even a spinner bait & start hitting them in the side. After hitting them a few times they'll start to get aggravated. They'll start flaring there gills & turning on the bait, when this happens you can throw your finesse bait, jig or just about anything else & you will more than likely catch them.

Man I've never been the biggest fan of white baits for bed fishing just because I tend to get more bites with natural colors. It could be just a mind thing but I have more confidence in colors that mimic things that they see as threats. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

Best bed fishing video I've seen. It's absolutely about being stubborn. A fish on the bed will remove the foreign object you put on it. That need to get your bait off the bed will eventually cause them to throw caution to the wind over the fact they can see you. Most people are too impatient to wait for the tough ones. That tick he talks about, I call it the shimmer. It absolutely works sometimes, I like to not use worm weights so it floats down real slow and does a great shimmer. I don't think baits and colors are as important as just getting a foreign object on the bed.

Mike! Awesome bed fishing tips! The Spawn is coming finally to my part of the country! It is my favorite time to catch Bass! My area in SW Alabama is usually flooded out every year during the spawn. I fish everywhere below the Coffeeville and Claiborne lock and dams which includes the Tombigbee/Mobile river system and the Alabama Rivers to the north and then the Tensaw apalachie, blakley rivers and the smaller bays north of Mobile Bay!

A lot of times, if they're spooked out of the bed but circling, I'll pitch the bait straight into the middle of the bed and let it hit the water hard. They will feel it and immediately turn around to investigate it. Also if you see a bed and no fish, do that too. They are for sure around and they will come and get it!!

Always catch and release so there is something for future generations (children) to catch👍great advice Mikey we always follow and have taught my boy to do so as well (plus a lot of our fish are tainted by pollution in lower Michigan) bass are almost ready to get on beds, another week of warm weather and its on shad spawn on full moon means crazy activity in the water😊 Thanks for sharing all your tips which helped me get a couple really nice bass this last Saturday evening! Always appreciated, mahalo blessings and aloha from western lower Michigan

That line pull and rod slap is brilliant! I’m for sure going to try those techniques. One thing I would like to add while thinking about the line pull - and it’s because I can see myself doing it…if line pulling, make sure the spool is engaged. If it’s not, the backlash that will ensue is a guaranteed world-record.

I guess sight fishing has a place. Before I lost my right eye in an accident I was pretty good at it… (I still preferred to fish for pre or post spawners) but it’s kind of something that I wish pros had never popularized the way they did. Not everyone did it back in the day. I mean most would try to catch a big one if they came across it, but they weren’t out just running the shallows looking for nothing but beds. It’s doesn’t seem as bad as it once was, but I can remember years where the first half of the BASS season were all sight fishing tournaments. Starting in Florida and following the spawn up the country. I’ve read the supposed studies but I don’t buy that it doesn’t hurt fish populations. I believe I have experienced it basically kill sections of lakes I love for years. I do appreciate you telling your fans not to put them in the live well. That definitely makes a difference. Tight lines and big ones brother.

Nice Intel Sir ... I like it ... the line thing is awesome ... I really like fishing for the hard ones too ... Being more stubborn than the fish is the key and they're fun to watch and observe we can learn a lot from the ones that get spooked away and we don't want to spend the time to fish for them... going on to the easier ones that any little kid could catch what's the challenge in that ???

If you aren’t having to catch fish for money, throwing lures around bedding bass is very educational. You don’t know how far away they can hear a lure from until you see it in person. We can watch all the videos and read all the articles we want to but nothing beats learning and practicing.

Ive had success going smaller up here in NY. Ill get em fired up, then ill bite off just the tip (1-2 inches) of a yamamoto senko, then rig it like im trout fishing with a mealworn or maggot. They tend to just lip the bait and carry it off most times, so by downsizing that much after they're riled up, they have no choice but to take the hook too.

I understand the drive and thrill of sight bed fishing. However I won’t tournament fish if they don’t weigh and release from the spot where the fish is caught. During this time it’s more important for the fish to stay on their beds for the health of the lake. Taking fish miles away to weigh them is outdated. Great information on your technique.

@@markgoode8838 yeah I know he’s a fan and sponsored by strike king fluorocarbon. I think Tyler burger just did a test on like every brand and you can watch it I think the strike king had the best overall strength and abrasion resistance but it’s a thicker line. I have some of Brian’s reels I bought off him at the last class he had in Florida and both reels have that Fluor on them and it works amazing. I used to only use invisX but it’s weak as hell. Hope that helps. Sorry for being rude earlier
