The Iraq war woke me up to politics. Once I realized the government lied, that was it for me. Down the rabbit hole I went haha

Same here! I was all hyped for a career in the military, then I figured the Iraq war was based on complete lies, and that we basically wasted 20 years in Afghanistan and I lost interest in the military and just researching and study politics.

Andy Stumpf was either on this mission or a very similar top target with the same story of getting shot up in helicopters only to find an agricultural plant 🤦‍♂️ I also like his anecdote about being a dumb new guy that had his weapon sling over his forced air gas mask hose, so he was overheating and about to suffocate while taking down a building full of plants not quite "yellow cake dirty bomb materials"🤣 (Sounds like the same mission, I think the helicopter door gunner on his or a neighboring helicopter was killed or wounded during this stupid raid if I'm not mixing up stories 😕)

There were plenty of WMDs in Iraq, thousands of nerve gas shells and tonnes of uranium ore. What wasn't there was the manufacturing apparatus, it was all leftovers from Saddam's 90s stash.
@kiloalphasierra
@kiloalphasierra 4 ай бұрын
Saddam kept a lot of old nerve gas shells in small caches all across the country. It really was the only WMD’s he had and most of those were past their use by date. The rest of it was all smoke and mirrors orchestrated by Saddam and swallowed hook line and sinker by almost everyone else. The end result was when he finally figured he needed to come clean about his chemical and biological warfare research and production capabilities post 1991 being just made up stuff to make him look important and much more capable then he really was by that point, no one in a position to stop the invasion of Iraq believed him.

Imagine you're S.H., with Iran on one hand and the U.S. on the other. Iran, an enemy you have to worry about every day, never goes away, but the U.S. has to actually deploy significant forces from the US and Germany. If you admit you don't have WMD publicly, you can't hold that over Iran as a deterrent.
@KinseiSensei

Everyone seems to forget that Bush made a televised speech giving Saddam one month before he sent in UN inspectors…. We gave him the weapons and built the facilities in the 80’s when they were fighting Iran. In the intel shop we had aerial photos of the convoy of weapons moving to Syria.

@@KinseiSensei I was noting Foreign Policy did a piece last year with unclassifed CIA documents confirming our role in the program so they could be used against Iran in the 80s. Reagan demanded Iraq must win no matter what the cost, but Iran still managed to win after a long bloody war.

@@anthonykaiser974 Well Hussein made Iran an enemy when they invaded Iran in 1980, so yeah Iran was not a fan of S.H. They lost a lot of people due S.H's brutal chemical and biological weapons attacks on them. Pretty sure Iraq has lost every war they attempted.

It's important to remember that whilst Bush and Blair exaggerated the threat, Saddam did have a chemical weapons program and did use chemical weapons (most notoriously on Kurdish towns)

Something else that never gets mentioned, and it's basically because when things went sideways finger pointing within the government and military became the order of the day, is that old Sadam had his intelligence arm run a disinformation campaign to get every intelligence agency in the western nations to believe he had WMD's, that's one of the reasons that everytime some UN inspectors would show up somewhere everyone was saying "They just got moved", cause their disinformation was so good it included fake communications between departments within Iraq about moving that stuff that our intelligence people couldn't admit they had gotten for fear that their intelligence people would be tipped off to wire taps or human intelligence or however they were feeding fake information to us, although they knew about any wire taps or anything else because it was exactly how they planted the fake information. Sadam wanted everyone to think he had them and that he was doing a good job of hiding them thinking it'd get him a spot at the big kids table, he figured if everyone thought he had them they'd think twice about invading him plus he wanted Isreal to be nervous about it and start bowing down to him in certain regards, he wanted everyone to think he had a big stick to. He may not have had the best military in the world but his intelligence service was about as good as they get and they played everyone beautifully on that one, problem is it had the opposite effect that he thought it would, but at the end of the day he wanted everyone to think he had WMD's, well, he got what he wanted.

Probably important to note. He used them against the Kurds, because he/they knew that the Kurds had no defense against them.
@trogdortpennypacker6160
@trogdortpennypacker6160 Жыл бұрын
Of course we knew because we facilitated their chemical and biological weapon program for when they invaded Iran. It's public record we didn't report their use against the Iranians to the UN and we even helped provide targeting for these weapons. Even when they later used them on the Kurds we helped try to cover it up, and we attempted to blame the Iranians for doing it. Some of this is covered in the Riegle Report. The equipment we supplied to produce this stuff required certifications of the Department of Commerce lol. Foreign Policy did a piece on this called "Exclusive: CIA Files Prove America Helped Saddam as He Gassed Iran" in 2022 as CIA documents have been declassified. We helped gas 50,000 Iranians, 5000 Kurds and permanently injure another 100K. The issue is all of this was destroyed under UN supervision after their failed Kuwait invasion. So we knew exactly what they had.
@trogdortpennypacker6160
@trogdortpennypacker6160 Жыл бұрын
I should note we didn't aid them when they were used against Kurds, that was purely Iraq's call but we were aware and worked with them to cover up their role in it. Our role was getting them the equipment, assistance, and biological samples so they could be used against Iranians not Kurds.
