From what I've read about Charon (or Cerlic) he is a damn scary creature to meet. He was made by the Night Hags to protect all the Marraenoloths from Demodands sent by their creator himself. He apparently beaten them so hard that Demodands never attempted to go against Marraenoloths ever again, including their god. He can charge upwards of hundreds of thousands of Platinum for his services, and he can't be completely defeated unless the River Styx stops flowing. So he can't be killed unless every single living creature in the Multiverse is dead.

Evil fey are a bigger pain than expected. Imagine if a lich found out about the value of those shoddy souls. The lich should definitely steal one or both of the hag's prized possessions, preferably using mortal adventurers. Haggy could have her own duped party going for his phylactery. Everyone's boss appears in the monster manual somewhere.

@@blackjoker2345 I'd assume a lich that needs to stealthily biy souls to eat is likely desperate or has just been trashed by some adventurers. If its for ritual reasons I'll assume they need A LOT of souls. While Liches can cast spells of Divination one of the biggest ways to fool such spells can be casted by Devils, who rely on the hags.
@blackjoker2345

@@jasonfurumetarualkemisto5917 The reason liches use souls was detailed in 3rd edition lore(not sure if still canon though). Souls are essentially free xp for the purposes of spells and magic item creation. You're average Below-lv-1 human soul is 20 xp, with higher levels scaling up from there. Also, if you got a cheap second-hand version of the lichdom ritual, you'd needto consume souls to keep your made-in-china phylactery running.

23:32 "That and the fact that Hags can only have daughters, never sons." Depends a bit on what books you choose to include or exclude. In 3.5e Unapproachable East they introduced the playable race called the Hagspawns. They are the male children of hags, half-human outcasts feared and hated by normal humans. They are big, strong and hardy, but sullen and ill-tempered. They carry much resentment inherent from their monstrous parent, which is often further made stronger by the distrust they receive from common people.
@krispalermo8133

3.5e, male hag children ? Just make it a half fiend and change out their bonus character class level bonus spells to fit the theme. As for all of them being Neutral Evil, it is just so hard not to be that way. Check out AD&D Ravenloft: Van Richten guild to Hags. It is a must read.

@kyachdistent1301
@kyachdistent1301 2 жыл бұрын
@@Xargas Doppelgangers are cool but an evolutionary annoyance. Their categorisation as a monstrosity, like with an Ettercap makes little sense when they're humanoids, just of a monstrous type. They look alien-like yet can apparently be killed by normal weapons. Do they eat humans and other good beings or not? Their lore just says they prey on people by killing them to look like them at whichever point they choose, but don't go beyond why? How and why do they operate the way they do? I like them, but evolution/lore wise, they are profoundly unsatisfactory. Now an association with Hags-i.e. having them be the result of MALE children being birthed by Hags screwing male humans and Elves (not Dwarfs?), is an extremely sound idea, and one I'd adopt, which would explain many things, certainly why they're cursed to forever look weird, ugly and off-putting-forever doomed to never join the society they came from, yet only grab a part of it through stealth magic and subterfuge. It would explain their strong hit points, and also perhaps their only average intelligence and weak ability to grasp more than a victim's surface thoughts they need to emulate in looks in order to fit in to a society they can't naturally be a part of any more, which would explain further their ever-pressing need to 'fit' into society the only way they can-by disguising completely their utterly gross and subnormal visage and body, something surely only a Hag can be guilty of when seducing/raping a human or Elf male when the Hags themselves are in their illusory form.

I always figured that, while Devils are certainly a threat to the multiverse, Demons are the far bigger danger, because Demons, while they can claim souls and turn them into more Demons, Demons can just as frequently spawn from nothing but the Chaos of the Abyss. So, if the Abyss was somehow wiped out at some point, the Devils would certainly be dangerous, but the forces of the upper plains would no longer have a reason to tolerate their existence and, in a combined effort, be able to ultimately wipe out the Devils. So, in my campaign settings, it's always the case that Asmodeus is purposefully keeping the Blood War going on forever, while he schemes to conquer the multiverse behind the scenes.

I absolutely love these videos. You should look into epic level spells, there is a handbook for them from 3rd edition, and they are crazy! Either way, I always love learning more about these creatures and the lore crafted over the years. I wish I knew how to look for all the info, there must be hundreds of books to pour over! Keep up the amazing work!

Such a great video. I enjoy these lengthier videos! Give us moar information!!!! It’s such a joy to learn about DnD while I’m at work. I can listen to you for hours and often times go back to already watched videos for my DnD campaigns. I primarily play 2nd edition and I’m ecstatic that you include info from previous editions! Cheers to you sir! Happy Halloween!

I know right!, I am DMing the tomb for a group of friends [SPOILER ALERT!] I am seriously tempted to use the Night Hag coven the Swen Sisters in a much more ascertive manner, I already make them bully Nana Pu'pu in gathering blood and hair from anyone she come across, in exchange of "protection"; but the combination of the Etheralness trait and the nature of the tomb makes it so cruel just have 1 of them running around chasing the group!

Back in the late 90's and 2000's, I had a campaign where I used a very powerful Night Hag as traveling merchant who discovered a way to mold larva into magical items which she would sell to adventures, The stronger the magical item, the more larva she had to use to mold the item, It thought at the time it was a great way to allow the PC's every couple adventures to go through the Encyclopedia of Magicia and if they could afford the gold, they could acquire an item I didn't put into the campaign myself, of course, at the DM's discretion, She couldn't create one of a kind magical artifacts, items that would require intensive rituals, or something you wouldn't expect a group of that level to have found naturally while adventuring, I took in consideration of the creatures they defeated along the adventure and what magical items they might of found which was absent to try and balance it out somehow but everyone liked the idea of being able to have her mold them an item they could of gotten but didnt, as long as they had enough gold for the transformation, I could of done more with this NPC and was going to, but our adventuring group started breaking down because of real world stuff and never got to finish the campiegn,

I always love these particular videos, just got into 5e and seeing the differences that pop up between the 5e monsters and their 3.5 counterparts is always great. I would love to see you cover more fiends, like the Archdevils or the Demon Princes :D

Ah yes, Ravel. What an absolutely fantastic character. Her assistance to The Nameless One via her many Avatars, was such a delicious twist on the storyline. Especially her provisions for helping him become skilled in Arcane magics. Finally meeting her real countenance was an epic reveal for me. "What can change the nature of a Man?". Such a multi-faceted question. Your own answer, depending on how you play, may surprise you in the end. :)

Now I want to make a campaign with a Lich as the BBEG just so that The players can go to the bazzar on hades and bump into him, and not be able to fight him cause the night hags won't tolerate it.

HEY. HEY HEY HEY. NO apologies. I do NOT mind, and am sure many others do not either, that the video was long. Just means more absolutely thrilling lore. And on Halloween, I'd have been far more disappointed if it was only 5 or 10 minutes. GREAT video, man. Job well done. Happy Halloween 2019, Rhexx!!!

I like the idea of an adventuring party being hired to prevent a hag child from being turned into a hag by just constantly interrupting the hag ritual until the original hag just gets fed up and leaves

Like just gear up with spells and items that help you track the hag and run away, then just pelt the hag with rocks whenever it settles in for the ritual
