Another thing people gloss over is the fact that even MJ’s haters, opponents, opp fans, all adversaries, etc. had to admit and accept that he was THAT good. Normally, opps and haters will hate and make tons of excuses as to why he sucks and their favorite player or team is better. MJ was so good everyone bowed down and even joke and laugh about how he dominated their teams. He was an anomaly like nothing we’ve ever seen. Lebron fell WAAAAAY short of the standards MJ set.

I hated Jordan in the 90s because he was That Good. The Knicks, Magic and Pacers got destroyed for years. I wanted one of them teams to beat him. I wanted Penny and Shaq to win, but Jordan wasn’t letting anyone win.

Yeah, once his Bulls career really kicked off -by 87/88- no one in the NBA (players, coaches, owners) was saying there was a better player than MJ. We fans didn't debate it. The question was never even broached, because we all _knew_ Even my friends who were Knicks/Lakers/Jazz fans who HATED MJ didn't discuss the issue. It was Michael Jordan..... then everybody else.

0:23 And to be precise, it was ten (10) NBA Scoring Titles in eleven (11) complete NBA Seasons (1984 - 1985, 1986 - 1993, 1995 - 1998). This is how Chris Broussard calculated the Heaven-and-Earth difference between Michael Jordan's dominance in Chicago versus LeBron James' dominance (or lack thereof) in Cleveland. In Michael Jordan's eleven (11) complete NBA seasons, playing for the Chicago Bulls (1984 - 1985, 1986 - 1993, 1995 - 1998), Michael Jordan won six (6) NBA World Titles. But in LeBron James' eleven (11) complete NBA seasons, playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers (2003 - 2010, 2014 - 2018), LeBron James won only one (1) NBA World Title. Broussard didn't mention it, but may I add that Michael Jordan won all six (6) NBA World Titles in Chicago, without a single Game 7, while LeBron James won only one (1) NBA World Title in Cleveland, yet it took both a Game 7 and coming back from being down 3 - 1 to do it. Needless to say, Michael Jordan went down 3 - 1 only one (1) time, in the NBA Playoffs, in his entire NBA basketball career. LeBron James has fallen down 3 - 1 many times in his NBA career, but just to name a few, LeBron James went down 3-1 in the 2014 NBA Finals, LeBron James fell down 3 - 1 in the 2017 NBA Finals, and LeBron James recently went down 3 - 1 again just this past season in only the first (1st) round of the 2023 - 2024 NBA Playoffs, before Jamal Murray BAPTIZED LeBron James in Game 5 with a humiliating face-to-face nasty posterizing facial, before Jamal Murray hit a game-winning jumpshot to complete the 4 - 1 gentleman's sweep of LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

On a backboard breaking dunk he jumps casually with his back foot just about a ft behind the free throw line and when he dunks it his head is still in the middle of the net. He used to do that on a fairly regular basis at least until 1993.

A friend of mine still thinks MJ pushed Russel during his last shot in a Bulls uniform. I think his mind has been warped from all the flopping and shit from the modern era, because MJ barely grazes his shorts. My friend is also a Bronsexual, so instead of seeing reality they see any opportunity to take down the GOAT MJ. Slow motion that entire scene and Russel is 100% following his own laws of motion and loses his balance and/or slips when he stops.

There’s other reasons - that era didn’t think defense was a dirty word. There was the fear that a miss would be a transition runout. If you notice, whenever Jordan shot, it was usually foul line extended or higher. He was ready to run back if need be.

At the start of this video you touch on a topic that answered a long standing question I had. Is there anything that Jordan was great at, that LeBron did better. I've long said no, but you highlighted how much and how often Jordan broke the heart of Cleveland. I would say LeBron was even better at that.

1996 the 3 pt line was moved closer. In case people weren't aware. So that 43% isn't that impressive. And I'm a huge Jordan fan but context has to be included. What I think people don't realize is when Jordan was in HS there was no 3 pt line. When he was in college there was no 3 pt line. The 1st time Jordan ever played basketball with a 3 pt line was in the NBA.
@blancosmoke
@blancosmoke 5 күн бұрын
Ok, I have more context. Jordan played a total of 15 seasons or partial seasons. In 10 of those seasons, he attempted 1.5 3’s a game or less. In those seasons, his percentages ranged from bad to atrocious. However, in the 5 seasons he attempted more than 1.5 3’s a game, he shot 38%, 35%, 50% (17 games), 43% and 37%. I can concede that for some of those seasons, the line was slightly closer, therefore his percentages could and probably are slightly higher based on that. But, I’d argue that when he was willing to incorporate 3’s into his game, he was good at shooting them. Not great, but good. I don’t know how to find the data, but I would guess that in many of the seasons that he wasn’t taking them, his percentages are likely skewed based on many of the ones he did actually take being desperation and bail out shots at the end of the shot clock or game clock.
@biffbobfred
@biffbobfred 4 күн бұрын
IIRC it was moved out for a couple years, to spread the floor more. That didn’t help so they moved it back in.
@AnHebrewChild
@AnHebrewChild 2 күн бұрын
Here's the deal tho: most of the league's sharp shooters' 3pt% did not go up. For example, Reggie Miller's 3pt shooting dropped from .421 to .410 Jeff Hornacek shot better the season before and after they moved the line in than he averaged when it was 22 feet. Mitch Richmond shot better the season before they moved it in .407 than the season they moved it in .(37%) Here's the thing, the defenders were in players' faces more when they shot from 22' - so either they shot being more closely guarded or they had to move back 2-3 feet to get open. Shooting 44% from that range with heavier defense _is_ actually impressive. MJ was tied for the #10 spot league wide. That's good by any metric.

LeBron: That, right there, made me the greatest of all time. Jordan: Hold my golf club, I gotta make a call. I know that's not how the string of events unfolded but it's still funny to think about. That was also the overthrow of the 73-9 GSW, so if it WAS connected to the Finals then it was maybe a shot at the Warriors/Kerr.

I unsubbed from Jimmy high roller because he was losing his damn mind. Started d*ckriding LeBron wayyy too much. But Jordan was a stat filler without trying to fill them. LeBron’s new eyes on the prize is the record for most 30 pt games…Jordan who actually only played 13 of the 15 yrs has that record. It’s only taken LeBron 21 yrs to do it. Anyone given enough time could break records but, they can’t win championships.

MJ's mid 90' 3pt% glorification often forget to mention that the 3 point line was shorten to 22ft from 1994 to 1997. That didn't change the fact that he was above average these seasons, and that he didn't needed it to dominate. A Fun fact is that Wilt had to choose winning scoring titles or championships, and MJ could have both ! Another investigation that should be done : Single games scoring leaders didn't take count of the defense the player faced. If your rank scoring leaders relatively to the level of defenses they faced, how high does MJ ranked ? Is 86' MJ 63pt vs Celtics (3rd best defense) during the playoffs as/more valuable than 81pts Kobe vs Raptors (29th defense) or 100pts Wilt vs Knicks (6th defense of 9 teams), etc.), and how many times does he appears in the first places ?

Jordan shot A LOT and yet kept his efficiency at around 50% for his career in an era of hand-checking and tough defense. His haters (the supporters of the other guy) love to minimize his scoring titles to him being a ball-hog, but the today's players they love to say are much better than the plumbers of the 90s can't score as much and are far less efficient in an era with barely no defense. What's their excuse for that?
