being in the navy I would highly recommend you bring a usb powered fan for hot places. and as weird as it sounds I would 100% bring velcro!! I cant tell you how helpful it is. hanging your fan. hanging a coozie to hold your drinks. and most importantly, hanging your phone while watching a movie so you don't have to hold your phone for hours. there are tons of other things but those are just a few that I've found.

Wanted to add on: Bring every uniform item, and at least four pairs of coveralls. You’ll be wearing coveralls daily. If you’re E4+ it might make things easier to get your crows sewn onto your coveralls, instead of bringing the metal ones. Also: - Attachable rack light - Portable charger/power outlet - A few pairs of headphones, wired and Bluetooth (whatever ur preference is) - Vitamins, Advil, Tums, Tylenol, etc. - A lot of deodorant (ur shipmates will appreciate it) - Mini Portable fan in case it gets too hot in the berthing - Crocs or a few pairs of shower shoes (shit gets lost or stolen) - A few different civilian outfits for ports

Twin Memory foam topper and cut to rack size to sleep comfortably. Get a mat to put in the middle of your rack to prevent dirt getting on your rack. People accidentally step on your rack to get to theirs. Bring toilet paper because I have seen where they run out in berthing. If it’s the middle of the night you might need some. Get an eye mask if you don’t have black out curtains

lol super late but whatever. you have to carry it all on board, usually by yourself but I usually start taking stuff on board a month before we get underway. Also if you are wondering how you store it all then that's simple. when you arrive to the ship you get your rack. 4 choices, top rack (you get a big locker and a small locker, look them up to see the sizes). you can get a middle rack/ no coffin rack (same thing), middle rack/ coffin rack (small locker and a rack that trices up to reveal a full locker underneath the bed, look it up if confused lol) and a bottom rack, same as middle rack except they are all coffin racks with small lockers. all have their own perks and draw backs but it's all personal preference. hope that helps you or someone else reading it.

Back up Shower shoes and a good flash light. That berthing will be dark a lot. Your own supply of Isopropyl alcohol to disinfect your toiletries and whatever. I can go on and on.

Basically yes. I don't know how it is in the military, but if you're deep sea the only communication is a satellite phone, and that's mega expensive. As soon as you get in port you're going to want to go to the Seaman's mission or an internet cafe or somewhere with wifi so you can e-mail home. I guess if you're on a submarine it's even worse.

SteamboatWilley completely untrue... satellite phones on a ship are for emergency purposes only and there will only be a couple depending on the ship. when you’re on a ship there is an internet connection (very slow but still internet) you won’t have wifi to use your personal devices but there are many computers around the ship for you to log in and contact your family at almost all times of the day depending on the situation of things.

Wow the navy have changed since I left in 2010. Storage on board is a locker, your rack and the seabag locker. Also, if you are a small boy; you will not have access to do your laundry. It is group laundy. The SHs over pack laundry and people steal tshirt and underwear. Carry extra packs and store them in the sea bag locker. On a carrier you are limited to hours, days and usually 1 load. Wash your undergarments then. Put your uniforms in the ships' wash. Carry cans of dip and cigarettes. During a long deployment the ship store will run out and it is a easy way to make alot of money. Also, leave some space for souvenirs. Ship them home when you get back to home port.If you don't have your ESWS pin. Get it. You are fucking up if you don't and finish your DC quals for the love of God.
