Ey! Good video! The only things that I miss are the info about tents, sleeping bag/pads and coocking system. Tents: at least a good 3 season tent if youre going on summer and 4 if youre going in other season. Same for sleeping bag/pad. Even in summer you can have -5°C at night in many places. Remember the weather: is wet so a insulated sleeping bag would be better if dont have a waterproof down one. Cook system is necesary becouse in many parts the bombfire are forbidden. Enjoy and keep your trash with you!

Great video. Would you recommend to get all these items for when traveling to Patagonia during the months of December to January? As you know, it'll be summer time down there. Thanks

We are so excited to hike the W trek with you next April. A lot of hiking places are recommending merino wool, but the video says no wool. What is the reason for this? Thanks!

Someone asked below a few years ago. Sweat too much with traditional wool. Can also lead to blisters.

I live in my Icebreaker merino. We are doing the W trek for the first time in February 2023. We will also likely e in South America for six months or more. Most of my travel clothing is Icebreaker. Five light merino t-shirts, two long sleeve quarter zip tops, tights, hat, gloves, etc. Chacun a son gout. For me, I have spent two years in Antarctica as well as 14 months of motorcycling through Central adn South America. I know what works for me, YMMV.

Should I bring a waterproof wind breaker jacket and pants or a poncho?
@EcocampTravel
@EcocampTravel 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! A Waterproof wind breaker is definitely a Must, waterproof pants is a good idea for Autumn/Winter but not compulsory. Rain poncho is also recommended for Autunn and Winter but the waterproof jacket is the best option :)

Hello - this video fails to mentioned the QUANTITY of each item to bring. Can I get away with only bringing 2-3 shirts for the 5 day hike? Do I need a fresh pair of hiking socks for each day?
@jaemiop
@jaemiop 3 ай бұрын
This is personal preference, but to me, there is no reason not to wear the same shirt every day. You are going to smell no matter what, you might as well embrace it. Every layer/clothing item you bring should have a specific purpose and to me, “being dirty” isn’t a good enough reason. Save the weight, just make sure your shirt is a quick drying one (polyester/synthetic blend). As for socks, bring 2 pairs (some synthetic/merino/blend). One to wear and the other to dry, then cycle between them to avoid blisters. Your hike will be much more enjoyable if your pack is lighter so think carefully about everything you bring

"Warm polar fleece is necessary" A wool knitted sweater won't do the trick?
@CascadaTravel
@CascadaTravel 5 жыл бұрын
We usually do not recommend wool knitted sweater on the hikes as hikers tend to sweat a lot with that kind of material ;) Hence the polar fleece (some of them are designed for hiking)

Would you recommend bringing a personal water filtration system? Is water from the streams safe to drink?
@EcocampTravel
@EcocampTravel 4 жыл бұрын
Hey ! Most streams are absolutely safe to drink - as far as you are not too close from the refuges (just in case) - with great water quality (coming from the nearby glaciers or snow). So a personal water filtration system should not be necesarry ;)

I'm 99% sure there will be no problems. But when it comes to water, it's always better safe than sorry. I'd personally bring it.

@@pedrox96 I don't think we are going to need it. I brought one for 20,000 miles of South America motorcycling and never used it. My wife wants it, though, so we are bringing one.

Why avoid wool? Merino is wool?
@CascadaTravel
@CascadaTravel 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jessi! Good question. When Tim talks about "avoid wool", he means "raw wool" that travelers typically buy in handicraft stores, very common in South America (for ex. wool gloves or wool sweater). This would be way too warm for a hiking experience :)
@hydeoutsadventures8785
@hydeoutsadventures8785 4 жыл бұрын
@@CascadaTravel I guess an even elevated answer is " "light weight" fleece or wool. Just don't make the wool too heavy because you will sweat a lot. " "
@MC-tm2uy

Why would you avoid wool? Wool is one of the best natural insulation and it still keeps you warm when wet
