You cannot compare Montreal to any other city in North america. Montreal is 400 years old canadian capital of culture, architecture, food , creativity, best quality of life, the biggest and oldest museum, bult on an island 10 times bigger than Manhathan . The greater Toronto includes cities so far away from downtown ( 50 km ) just to make it the most populous but not the better place to live . Toronto has no identity, a car culture like any USA cities and it is not a wakable and rich historical city. People from Toronto come to Montreal for night life and beautiful people and food.

French explorer Jacques Cartier left behind his first European settlement on Montreal island in 1535, long before it was called Ville Marie. We had a European settlement before any other city in North America.
@jdhjimbo3 жыл бұрын
Welcome back to the road, and Bienvenue a Montreal. It is one of my favorite cities in the world! It has everything you want in a great city, except it could use a major climate upgrade. It's Metro and Bixi bike system & rentals make getting around convenient. I love the French ambience, language and culture, and for an architecture-lover, it is heaven!. Vieux Port and Vieux Montreal are wonderful, and there are new undiscovered cafes down many alleys. I suppose it was nice for you, but it is kind of sad to see Place Jacques Cartier and Bon Secours Market so empty on a warm August day. Some of those attractions in the Vieux Port must be new, as I did not know them. You mentioned that Beach by the St James Church, and there is a nice beach right on Riviere St Laurent called Clock Tower Beach. Plateau and Mile End are great neighborhoods, but I try to add 1 or 2 new neighborhoods each visit. Montreal is built to scale, as only highrises downtown,, unlike Toronto and Vancouver (West End especially) which have gone crazy with cubbyhole condos built to the sky. I love all the culture, the street buskers (after all, Montreal is home to Cirque du Soleil), the light shows at night, and all the great festivals - jazz, film, comedy, etc. Montreal is the NYC of Canada, so you can visit 20 times and experience something different every time. You got the sesame bagel, and I have been told that due to the volume sold, it is the best one to get because it is always super fresh and warm. I give a slight edge to St Viateur, but both are great. BasiIique Notre Dame is not the biggest cathedral in the world, but one of the most beautiful. The back-lit blue hues make you feel you have arrived in heaven (and I am not even Catholic). Magnifique! It is where Celine Dion got married years ago. Wrong season, but hockey in Montreal is a religion. Have you ever done the LaChine Rapides? It is really fun! Good to see you back and past all the Covid Cult stuff. I pretty much gave up on Canada, and their ridiculous tyranny - along with Australia, NZ and US blue states. The scam will be revealed in due time. I have a couple of friends in Montreal - both bi-lingual, but one a native and the other a transplant from Winnipeg via Vancouver.. they say the Quebecois are rebels at heart, so did not really go in big on the mask charade, and social distancing is unknown to these very friendly people. Always love viewing Montreal thru different eyes. Mont Royal is also great for sunrise, but there are better places for sunset, given the Ile du Montreal's position vis-a-vis the sun. There is a neat skating rink in winter on Beaver Pond - partway up.the hill. The coffee is so great that I try to add a new spot each time. 49th Parallel, a great shop in Vancouver, with a killer view, is now in Montreal - though no English Bay view. However, an old home base of Banque du Montreal has been turned into a magnificent coffee shop. I do hope the city gets another baseball team - just not playing in the cavernous Big "O". I do love the Biodome next door, which was the Velodrome in the 1976 Olympics, and I saw that event there, and a few others. It is just an incredible city, so glad you love it as well!

Bravo on that upward stair hike - my eventual crawling on hands and knees would’ve ended with me collapsing face down while gasping for air. 😅To my understanding, Atlantic Canada has implemented strict restrictions throughout the pandemic; I can’t speak for the whole of Ontario, but it seems for Toronto and the GTA it’s a mixed bag when it comes to the level of caution among different people, at least during more recent times. From your fantastic video, Montréal seems to be a beautiful city of contemporary taste but with an old-world charm. Très bien!

Loved the vid guys, everything from the gorgeous view at Mont Royal to the iced coffees at Tommy's. Being an English speaker from Ontario only knowing "un peu de francais", is it best to "try" to order food in French, or do Quebecers prefer us Anglophones to just speak English without butchering the French language. Lol, just curious! Fyi, no social distancing in T.O either... Here where I live in small town Woodstock, ON. Yes!
