That was most informative, thank you very much. I have also heard there is a product called a “colour catcher” that you can use when you wash a knitted item before blocking I have not tried it yet but I hear it helps.

This is quite an enlighting experiment. I remember once knitting with apurple yarn that bleeded directly on my hands as I knitted my swatch, so I knew not to knit it with other colors. The paper towel experi ment is such a great idea ! Thanks ! So sorry this beautiful shawl will end up as camp fire shawl, I hope you had a great time knitting it at least ! I heard form other podcaster about color catcher sheets, but never tried them.

Oh no!!! I'm fairly new to knitting and want to start venturing out with combining colors. I wouldn't have even thought about considering this could happen. Thank you for the tips. I'll make sure to pay attention to the yarn and colors I chose for my projects.

Thanks so much for watching. You can also knit a small swatch with the two colours and wash it. I tried it with my last project and it worked well. Take Care, Colleen and May

Hi Colleen, I am so disappointed that your test didn’t work because I also bought the SOS but haven’t tried it as yet. I was told that it works well on carton fabric.

It would probably work better with cotton fabrics. I will probably try the paper towel test before I knit the next time. Take Care, Colleen and May

WOW - what a lot of work to have it ruined like that. I had one shawl do the same thing with a red and grey combo - I've stayed away from reds since then. Well, if you can get some wear out of it then it's not too bad. Thanks for sharing, that's helpful information.

Sorry to hear that. I think that I will do the paper towel trick from now on. It would be better to wash the yarn before you start if you need to. Thanks for watching. Take Care, Colleen and May

Sorry to see the dye run on that shawl, great advice to wash yarn beforehand. I recently purchased online some Shout brand colour catcher sheets dye-trapping sheets. I haven't used them yet but currently working on a project with black and red...hopefully the sheets will catch the dyes. Vheers!

Great tip! It definitely beats washing and drying the hank before using. I haven’t tried one myself but a lot of people I know use colour catchers the first time the soak their creations and swear by them.

Not sure if this would work but you can purchase sheets of colour catchers. They're supposed to absorb running colours.

Thank you for showing this experience. It made me quite sad when I saw the end result though. You took it much better then I would have. I agree with doing a test first to see if the colour will bleed, just to be safe.

I totally agree! Take Care, Colleen

Brigitte here. You need to get a box of Color Catchers. They are sheets that absorb dye in your water. Red is notorious for bleeding.

Do you know where I can buy Color Catchers? I have looked around but I have not found them yet. Take Care, Colleen and May

Is there a way to save your work after bleeding happened ? I see that you gave up .😢

The title of this video should have been “what NOT to do when your dye bleeds”. So sorry it didn’t work. Your shawl is beautiful.

You are correct about the title. I did learn an important lesson. I will always test the yarn before I knit from now on. Take Care, Colleen and May
