MasterAquatics my angels have only been tank mates for 2 months and have tried breeding twice already this second time they have been successful I see a few wriggling is there any chance of keeping them safe? The parents are doing a good job of picking up any that fall off the leaf but they keep knocking them off. I don't have a spare tank is there any hope for them? I have bleeding heart tetras in the tank and panda/green corys and a whiptail. Any advice would be great. thanks first time fish mom.

Thanks for the Vid! I just purchased a pair of very small Marble Angels about the size of a quarter three weeks ago. Apparently while I was having surgery they laid eggs. They were wigglers by the time I discovered my good fortune. I got the parents out today and the wigglers just became free swimming and are all by themselves now. Now I am scrambling to keep them alive!

Your video was really enlightening. It answered all the questions I had concerning the Angelfish egg laying process and the after effects of not removing and also removing the eggs.
@davidhoover40636 ай бұрын
I used to think my angelfish were eating the eggs. Truth is they were keeping the babies in their mouth and spitting them out in the current of the filter to teach them to swim. They look for the ones that look ready to swim and pluck them. Then they would bring them to the top of the water and spit them out in the current of the filter. Amazing. My large male angel Neshetan is the best father ever! To this day he has protected a deformed one from the other siblings. The deformed one never leaves his side and imitates everything he does. LOL!

So I am thankful to watch your video but so upset right now. Long story... I'm about 40, I've had fish since I was around 10 (off and on) ... as a kid, all I wanted was my fish to have babies, but neither my goldfish tanks (my real passion) or any of my tropical tanks ever did. Currently I have (among other things) a 60-gallon "Community" tank in my bedroom... it's got a bunch of different, small Tetras, a very small and kinda-small Angelfish, a handful of Tiger Barbs (who are amazing, they're the best, they literally play all day, never bother anyone else, just chase themselves and play in the Bubble streams...I think there's about 8 of them), a few Plecos, and 2 big, beautiful Angelfish. Yesterday, I came in from lunch and realized that one of the 2 big Angelfish was mercilessly bullying the other fish... she was turning herself sideways and "dive-bombing" all the other fish, she basically sectioned off half of the tank, and wouldn't let them cross... this went on for 30 frantic minutes while I'm Googling etc. and some people had posted that it might be mating / spawning behavior... Then I noticed, sure enough, it did in fact look like one was trying to lay eggs and the other was trying to fertilize them- but nothing happened - .... So just about 30 more minutes, I'm making the decision, "I have to get them out of there, even if they don't survive ... It's not fair that 2 big bullies kill potentially 20 other peaceful fish..." and so I decide, "They have to go into one of the other tanks, no other option..." and I walk over to the tank and , it's a Miracle! One of my largest Anubias plants is COVERED in eggs! I missed the actual spawning but, woohoo! Finally, it happened! This is awesome! And then the fish stopped being aggressive and literally took turns "fanning" the eggs, it was literally right out of Wikipedia, I thought, "This is amazing!" ... I was so happy, I thought, FINALLY! And I'm going to have a whole bunch of amazing-looking baby Angelfish... WOOHOO!!! I even briefly considered removing the Anubias plant and putting it into a 10-gallon I have (that is not set up right now) ... but I thought, it's not set up, so I might shock the eggs or introduce some problems etc. They look fine, I fed a lot of food to keep everyone happy, we'll be fine.... BUT THIS IS WHY I CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS in life... Well, I woke up this morning, and Mrs. Angelfish was just finishing the act of eating *every. Single. egg.* All gone. So I went from absolutely psyched last night to just dejection . I wish I did something last night. And the worst part is, the two fish in question are beautiful, and I could only imagine the offspring. The male is a HUGE silver and black-striped , similar to yours, and the female is black and gold with some silver highlights. I am so disappointed, but I will try to take your advice if there is a "next-time" and separate them immediately.

@Redheadedlesbo3 жыл бұрын
if they are small yes but they are rapid growers and you will need to upgrade the tank. I had 2 angels in a 20gal (they were not even 2 inches long) and they grew to 4 inches within 2 years and had to transferred into a 40. as they get older and bigger they need more space or they will get territorial and aggressive towards eachother and any other fish

I have a phillipino blue zebra angelfish mate with a mutch larger tricolor angelfish that looks very similar to yours. They're defending the eggs and eat an egg here and there. I was hoping to get some fry to survive to see what colors they'd produced, but that's a 55g and other tank is 15 gallon with guppies and Celestichthys Choprae so they'd be eaten in there as well. I defending don't need anymore fish as I'm already overstocked but I run 2 seachem tidal 110s so the water is great. I guess the water is good if they're breeding, right?

So… my angles had babies…. They laid eggs and they hatched…. I also have gold fish in with my angles.. and the goldfish didn’t bother them… they laid the eggs on my heater top .. I am planning on getting a 10 gallon tank when my wife gets home from work… when I also did was took my big net and scooped it under the edge of my heater all the way up to the top where the babies are.. now I did see the mom ( I’m guessing it was the mom scoop up some babies in her mouth.. then spit them back out.. I know cichlids are mouth brooders but are angles? Also I know they are in the cichlid family.. but this is all new to me.. I used to raise cichlids and I had 125 gallon tank for them… lots and lots of flat rocks stacked like a pyramid so the babies can get in and hide from the bigger ones… We had to move so I sold the tanks and fish… 10 years later my son wanted to get into fish hobby cause he saw all my pictures of tanks but he wanted angles…so this is new to me what to do with them…what they eat so on and so on… any suggestions would be awesome…

Thanks in advance for your reply or anyone's else that can answer my question🐠
@sparkyjones5606 жыл бұрын
Yes. That happens. The female gets visibly wider at the stomach when it's breeding age, although it can also be a bad sign of bloat. Little known fact. If you feed freeze dried foods like tubifex worms, saturate them in water first, reason being the freeze dried foods expand when they get wet and if the fish eats a big bite of it while it's still expanding it can block their intestines they get backed up and they bloat up and it can kill the fish. It's not referenced much but you'd have to dig on the Internet to find it. The fish would be obviously distressed if this is the case though swimming bad and looking like it's dying. When female angels are old enough lto breed they get wider at the stomach than males.

Hey, I have a communal tank about 5 ft. My pair of angelfish have recently layed eggs that have hatched and are free swimming. The only fish iv had to remove were my silver dollars as they were constantly being attacked and that was in turn making the parent angelfish exhausted and were starting to look sick (they bounced back within an hour of removing the silver dollar pair). The Angelfish pair so far have been surprisingly amazing parents, very attentive and protective. I have 3 neons which have been in the tank agers with no issues, I also have 2 small salmon catfish, 2 feather fin catfish and 2 small bristlenose. My question is what are the chances of any of the baby fry surviving if I leave them in my current set up as is or is it likely they will ALL be eaten? As it stands the parents have been amazing so far. I'm not sure about any of the catfish being an issue as they generally stay grounded in the bottom., however I have seen one fry been eaten by a neon so far =( again the parent's are very attentive at the moment and even though the fry now are mostly spread out within a small half of the tank they are constantly being looked after and regrouped which I think is beautiful. Your opinion on leaving the fry in my current setup and the chances of survival would be great. This is my first experience with something like this. Thanks so much.

Hi, very informative video. I've recently notice white eggs on my live plant and decided to cut leaves off and isolated them in baby nursery plastic tank (small with filters and air stone) attach to my 30 gal community fish tank. Is that ok to do? Listening to your video seems like I am doing everything right but want to make sure. Also, just notice them today, will I see some movement in couple days? That fast and what should I feed them? I have flakes and brine shrimp (frozen good stuff). Thanks for advice
@sparkyjones5606 жыл бұрын
Hue Chau they should hatch in about 60 hours after being laid at 78-80 degrees F. If they are white they probably weren't fertilized and probably won't hatch. The viable eggs are sorta clear to brownish / yellowish. After they hatch they are wiggles with an egg sack. They don't need food at that stage. Once they are free swimming, about 10 hours after, you feed for the first time. Baby brine shrimp is best sometimes the baby angels need a bit of movement to trigger eating and you can switch to flakes once they get used to the idea of small things in the water are food. Newly hatched brine shimp is best though for growth. The less travelling they have to do to eat the faster they grow. If they have to swim across the tank to eat a bite, they may burn more calories than they take in. Feed the frequently and clean the tank of uneaten food and waste frequently and they will grow quick.
