But how do I properly grieve the loss of what I had hoped for? My husband is unwilling to join me in things that interest me (concert choices, outing destinations, hobbies), but expects me to always join in his choice of activities. I can give up on my hope of being an equal partner, of bringing my whole self to our marriage, but I still need to grieve the loss of the partner I though I still had and the camaraderie we used to have. It sounds like you’re telling me to suck it up and to be satisfied being half a person.

I never tell anyone to suck it up which is cruel. I advise people to focus their marriage on love and rather than mundane selfish desires if they want to enjoy the true benefits of life and marriage which do not come from outer things. ... would you grieve if your husband was incapacitated and you had to be his caretaker? Or would you allow your "forced" situation to open your heart and embrace the challenge?

My husband too disappoints me! Things we plan never happen due to him. I know I’m resentful, easy to feel when your marriage isn’t what you thought it was going to be. I love my husband but let’s face it…it takes TWO!

Unless there is alcohol or other abuse going on, I think this method is wonderful. If I love my partner, why not radically accept and love him with all my heart?

​@burnzz100 this isn't true. By your choice alone, you can affect your marriage in a positive way. You can change your husband's behavior by changing yours. I know that this is a older post but I hope you haven't gave up on your marriage. ❤

Our feelings do matter, our love matters as welll.. I am learning thru the disappointment that I matter , my feelings matter.. just as it’s evident that my husband’s matter as he and I both tend to his.. but both should sacrifice..
