After a growing a bumper crop of Kale leaves I decided to use my harvest by cooking Caldo Verde. Making good use of my harvest is a priority in my garden. This vegan adaptation of a Portuguese classic soup is delicious and nutritious and is a new way of incorporating kale in your diet.

Looks delicious! It's about 100 degrees today where I live, so I'm not planning on making soup any time soon, but I'm looking forward to making lots of soups in cooler weather. This would make it even less authentic, but if I were to make this soup, I would stir in a can of coconut milk to make it extra creamy! I can't have dairy, but I love creamy soups.

This looks so delicious! I was wondering about spices to imitate the chorizo? I myself have never eaten animals so I have no reason to replace them. But some people may want to have the peppery taste. I once was poisoned with somebody who traded out poisonous mushrooms in a grocery store. There was such a mess of mix that I didn't see them. And who would have thought? Ever since then and one other odd incident of herbicide I now have this horrid sensitivity that I have never had. I grew up next to an old mushroom factory as they called it it was just fields and an old barn falling down. I learned to eat what grew in those fields that was edible and never had any problems. Other than the miyataki incident. I would eat this soup in minutes and I have not been eating. It's interesting cuz everything you've made I would eat but anything offered to me right now sounds horrible. I need to fall back in the past and have you as a neighbor to leave a small offering I'm soup to keep me alive. I'm binging on your videos today. I honestly do not know the date it is the end of February 2022. See you see I have a lot to go and I'm in no order. And as I said in one video I commented far too much on, it was like watching it all over again awake because the first time I watched it in the middle of the night when I woke. It was more of a dream the first time. Not that your videos aren't dreamy. Your friend and admirer G.

No you messed with Portugal 😂 and I am Portuguese. So that soup ain't nothing like what it supposed to be. You need to build the patatos and onion plus garlic and olive oil together with the chouriço. After is build you mash it with paasevid or whatever you got. One trick for the colorgrreans. Lay them down on top of each other make a roll and cut them thin as a tooth pick 😁 But I bet your version of caldo verde wasn't bad at all. Oh! No bay leaf on it whatsoever. Which it can bitter the soup . Full recipe! I enjoy watching what you do! God bless!

Hah, every Brazilian I know has always glowed over Portugal. Some say that contrary to commonly accepted understanding, the name "Canada" was not JUST a colonial misunderstanding of native word "Kanata" for "the village". It was a word given to the natives by early Portuguese explorers in the 1500s, when they got to what we call "Canada" now, they saw nothing here, and wrote on their maps "cá nada" for literally "Nothing Here" (in context of gold and silver). There are maps in Portugal labelled this way that were provided back to the king, and Portuguese being keen to make money on their travels, decided to head more south where there were riches. When the french and british started to show up, the natives started to use the words they heard from the last batch of "white" dudes coming in on boats, saying "Canada" and pointing at what they understood the word to probably mean... their village. Portuguese explorers with some possible credit for this language exchange: Diogo de Teive (1452) João Vaz Corte-Real (1470) Joao Fernandes and Pedro de Barcelos (1493) Miguel and Gaspar Corte-Real (1501) I forget who it is, but there is a monument for some of these Portuguese explorers in the province of Newfoundland, probably Miguel and Gaspar Corte-Real since they were lost at sea (apparently). Some people even say that Columbus was Portuguese, and took on a new persona to avoid some nobleman shame for not wanting to marry someone, or something like that. I don't know much on this one... lol
@suburbanhomestead

Those are interesting ideas, I had not heard of that, although I suppose it would be hard to have historical proof. I’ve also heard the word thank you in Japanese was influenced by Portuguese obrigado. Turns out that is not right. However they did influence other words like tempura, coming from the Portuguese word “tempero”
@gogotrololo
@gogotrololo 4 жыл бұрын
@@suburbanhomestead The Portuguese in Asia had a very interesting influence. I've heard stories about north Australian native tribes having some proof of adopting Portuguese words entirely when the British... uhh... "settlers" started settling in that area, and interacting with the locals. Japan is an interesting case when talking about the Portuguese. When Japan closed it's borders back in the day, it was the Portuguese (and spanish) who they were targeting because they were seeing too much of the culture and religion bleeding into their nation. Maybe the story about arigato being derived from obrigado was a colonial attempt to claim they did something they didnt! haha at any rate, you study the world when you study Portuguese history :D I love getting on the topic, because anyone who has given it some time has always brought something new to the table... Brazilians especially (and this one Portuguese-Russian i work with, who lived in Brazil for a decade)
