Steve Hayes work saved my life in 2011. I can't describe in words the decade since then Other than to say thank you Steve, thank you so much Mark in England

Why am I a bit bothered by how close they're standing to each other and a longer than average "handshake" ensues? 😆 Good conversation. Feel the fear or negative thought and do it any way! If you wait until you're not afraid, you'll never do it!

This is really revolutionary thought. Unaltered path...following your goals and value ALONG with negative emotions. Don't put life on hold. Acceptance/Mindfulness/Live in Present moment are new ideas from ACT.

Great perspective. Well formulated. I think this is what Steven himself has done. Just moved onward, carrying all the negative emotions with him. His TED talk is amazing! I'll just link it here, if someone has not seen it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWickJqjhJqjpsksi=TikFgJYZcUKQK2PW

Thank you (belated)! I was so nervous to talk to him... and so surprised to see him meet every person with warmth and his intense presence. This was recorded after his lecture. I was the last person in a line of about 20 people. Did not know if he would let me record this or if he would have energy left to chat. Well he did and gave me great advice too! He is one of those people, who is better in person. You can know a person from how they treat other people. He had utmost respect and patience and warmth to share with everyone. What a great person!

Oh no! I chose the camera angle all wrong. I must apologize to Steven if I ever see him again. :) There is plenty of space. I was feeling safe and comfortable. But thank you for the protective spirit. That also feels warm and kind.

@@uppartners well, that's nice to hear. In these days it is good to be sensitive for men who misuse their status. So great that that was not the case.

stephen hayes is literally one of the creepiest people. He is creepily lording over this woman despite the fact that her back is literally at the wall. His level of basic social awareness is absurdly low and the idea that his "therapy" is considered some "gold standard" for therapy is just ridiculous-the guy doesn't even know how to have a normal conversation.

I have to agree with his body language on this one . Trying hard to be alpha

Hey, I am NOT against the wall, there was plenty of space. :) It's just the angle of the camera. I was most impressed with Steven Hayes. Why? At a massive Conference: Evolution of Psychotherapy in Anaheim with dozens of famous speakers, Steven treated his audience with utmost respect. After his lecture, a LOOOONG (longer than our handshake) line of people formed in front of him. He received everyone with warmth and interest. Since I am a psychologist, my evaluation is that he was genuine. It would've been hard to pretend friendliness for so long. Because I wanted our talk recorded, I was the last one in line. I set up our microphones and my phone on a tripod and then we had this little chat. This is why Steven Hayes positively stood out. Not because of his great hair.

"Trying" does not fit. He is badass and his contribution is irrefutable. Who on this planet writes this many books. But more importantly he is changing lives for the better. Mental health is a fragile commodity.

We all have problematic thoughts and feelings that get in the way of living our lives (e.g. depression/anxiety). We spend a lot of time struggling with them and trying to avoid them. He is suggesting that we accept them instead, pay attention to them, hold them lightly but do the things we love or want anyway. We cannot get rid of unhelpful thoughts & feelings, but we can learn to accept them so they don't dictate your life.
