Hi, i live in Seoul, Korea and we have bird cafes that will take your birds in if you go travel. The one near my home is great. They let the birds out every day (supervised, small and big birds at different times to avoid accidents), and send you pics and comments every day to let you know your sweetie is fine. You can also just go there with your bird for "play time", to get them accustomed to the environment or get some care treatment like nail clipping, which i did several times before booking my holidays and booking a stay for my GCC with them. For small weekend getaways by car we take Kiwi with us in a smaller travelling cage and stay at pet-friendly hotels. This is good fun!

I was once on a Facebook group page and on a post where a woman was selling her bird, another woman asked if it was okay to leave it alone during the weekends and the other woman replied “ of course you can “. I immediately told them both how wrong they were. The other woman is just trying to sell her bird to just anyone and is willing to say whatever garbage to sell it and the other person asking if it could be left alone outraged me. I was furious and still is because there’re so many people who think oh it’s “ just a bird “ small bird, small cage or they don’t live that long, who cares… it’s disgusting. I’m glad there’re people out there who also care and educate others . You, Birdtricks, birdnerdSophie and many others like Marlene McCohen also care and I’m glad. I would too but I’m not confident within myself enough yet to start my own channel about birds and rabbits since I own the two species. 2 lovebirds and two bunnies. 😂 Anyway keep it up 👍 ❤

The best option is to take your birds on vacation with you 🎉😅 Honestly I really don’t go on vacation. I feel bad leaving my birds for even a couple hours. I love Luza’s little hat!

Thank you for this! I was feeling a little self-conscious about my decision to travel less - like I’m being “over protective” or something. You gave me the assuredness and sense of permission I needed. My husband and I take turns traveling for the most part, so we can care for our parrot (and dog) well. Otherwise we do day trips and have a sitter stop by who can at least provide food, water and company, versus cage freedom.

Of course ☺️ a lot of people will comment to me as well about my travel restrictions, but its my choice and thats okay. Its good you can take turns or have day trips. Ill usually do the same, i keep them with my parents since i live with them and they trust and love them tons

Traveling for 1 or 2 days, i don't know when i did that, even before my babies 😅 i don't travel at all, i am just a home potato 😂 A month ago i go to my mom's home for few days so i take them with me, since they and i can't live without each other 🥲 If u ask how long can they go without screaming if i leave, that's just literally 5 secs ( that's a different case if they know that i am in house just not in the room, cuz they hear my voice and see me through their room ) otherwise they just scream 😭 U know mimi they are really smart, they even know my clothes i wear if i have to go outside ( like i went for my paper for seperate 4 days ), they even know my slippers and other belongings 😂 ( i left my mom with them when i went for my papers ) I love the part that u taught your parents their routine cuz i also did the same thing, i taught my mom since they trust my mom best after me 😊 If i am not in the room and if someone from my family TOUCH my things Peach just go for biting and protect my art materials and other 😂 I have two little RoomGuards 😝 I will never leave my babies, now they are not just birds or parrots for me, they are so precious for me like any other family members ❤

If you ever find yourself invited to a wedding in Chicago and can't get out of it because it is close family, it is reasonably easy to sneak an Amazon (or other bird) into the Palmer House Hotel (not speaking from experience or anything 🤫).

Rios owner here, to add to your point on the boarding. I'm the one who got unlucky and my bird caught bornavirus from a boarder who otherwise looked reputable. It's really just so hit or miss.

Hi! I have two budgies that had their wings clipped as babies but now are fully grown back. I started training the less fearful one outside of the cage and let her explore. I know this is her first real time learning how to fly but she mainly only lands by smacking into walls and fluttering down. I was getting a little bit concerned by this and was wondering how i could avoid this or if its normal. Ps, she will take treats from me but is sometimes hesitant to get on my finger or walk places with her on my finger. Thank you!

Yeah it would be definitely so tricky to decide how to handle our dearest birds while we were away. Before we have our green cheek conure, we have 2 budgies, who were not so tame and close to human. So we simply found a pet babysitter on a special platform, who would take care of our budgies in exchange of staying in our home. It went well. But our new bird green cheek conure is tricky, he’s close to human and need our attention and time. We live in a foreign land and unfortunately also do not have friends who can or willing to take care of our birds. So it would be a big problem, if we want to visit our parents or take a long vacation. Still I haven’t found any solution for it…

Traveling? What's that? But yeah, I do not travel at all with a Grey by my side. The little guy is free flight and out 24/7 as I make it a point to work from home, spoiled him to the point he screams when I'm away and will chew his feathers if I'm gone longer than a day or two. That's even if he's with family he knows. Luckily traveling isn't that important to me to begin with, so it works out.

@@mimisbirdhouse Also; if I introduced an older quacker (18 months) to some younger ones (6 months), do you think theylll get a long well. The older one is very calm and sweet, and the youngsters are typical Quaker parrots 🙄 they come from the same shop which is very loud and stressful, and the young birds don’t fight often for Theo circumstances. The older one comes from a neighboring cage and was a rehome btw 😔
