My friend went on vacation after getting a cat few months back. One friend fed cat morning/evening and changed litter box. I happened to be off and visited the cat every afternoon. The cat loved all the attention.

I have a cat and I am worried about going on vacation ( for 4 days) for the first time after she was adopted. I have booked a pet sitter to come in twice a day. I hope the arrangement will work out. 🤞

If I'm staying away for more than one night, I use a cat hotel. There they get 24 hour care, whereas a cat sitter would only be there for an hour or two each day. If my cats are ill, i know they will get urgent care and monitored throughout the day. A good cat hotel will also send at least once per day photos and updates while you are away by email or whatsapp. In the cat hotel I use, each cat/cat family has their own walkin closet size room, they get fed, litter cleaned and the cats get taken to a spacious hallway area where a worker let's them run around and plays interactively with them during the day. As said, read reviews, contact the place and speak with the owner and ideally visit the place before you book your cats - see in person if the cats there look healthy and happy or not.

My neighbor went on vacation and i looked after their cats for them the cats were great i would go over twice a day feed them in the morning and evening clean the litter and play with them I could tell they were missing their owners when their owners came back they were rubbing all over them meowing so much . I love all of the research you do . Looking forward to your future episodes

What I love about my situation is that my vet, who works exclusively with cats and cats only, is also a boarding facility with webcams in the sleeping cubbies and in the main play area. There is also a 24 hour emergency vet in the next town over (about 25 minutes away) that is even bigger. They board dogs and even have stables for horses. I just don’t like my cats that close to dogs so I don’t use them unless I really have no other option. Which has only happened once but I was able to get a friend to check on my cats at the last minute before I went on a trip.

I love the Petkit “connected” feeder and water fountains as I can monitor their functions when away! When recently in hospital I caught our our otherwise awesome pet nanny James overfeeding Jasper and Austen, who are (and remain) lean Siamese! A quick call promptly resolved the issue. The Petkit app notified me of the added feedings! James also did Facetime calls which I think were terrific for me and the boys, mostly me! I will definitely explore the cameras and the boxy thing that can dispense treats and speak!!! @@TheCatButler Thanks CB! Incidentally I got them a second water fountain I placed in the bathroom, because I noticed the ruffians pulled out their water fountain’s plug from the outlet! Naturally Jasper PREFERS my water glass, so now he and I each have one in there as well! Aussie is more independent and seems fine with just their fountains and the dripping water faucet when I am in there!!! Ciao!

This has been a challenge for us since we adopted our kittens. We can’t just get up and go on overnight or weekend trips like we used to. Right now we’re hesitant on boarding or a cat sitter so we don’t have any plans to be away for more than eight hours. Hopefully we’ll find a compromise that is best for our kittens.

Hi Ana I use Tales of the Kitty. They are a top notch company that do exclusively cat sitting for over 15 plus years with tons of positive reviews. Personally I think they are great and I trust their care. I get pictures of Teemo and Arya every time they visit and they are very good with any unique instructions. They also treat Teemo and Arya very well. I don't trust Rover because anyone can just sign up and become a pet sitter. Read in the news that a Rover person stole someone's pet and resold it. And they aren't specialized in cats. So its why I went with this company that has been around for so long. Has a history of excellence and cat specialty. Hope that helps! You didn't talk about another option: take the cats with you. I always go on vacation with my cats. They are used to confront real world; Sometimes they are scared, sometimes they get confident and most times they enjoy carefully but enjoy anyways. Of course it requires leash training, socialization training, fear facing training etc but it's worthy. My cats live with us in our house but they belong to a much bigger world, and thanks to their trips, they know it.

I just arrived at a hotel and my Ragdoll is now all alone. My parents are on vacation and there are no cat hotels in my country, so I didn't have anyone else to take care of him. I'm afraid he'll not trust me anymore, since I'm not always at home and Ragdolls don't like to be alone. Also, my house is too small for two cats, so I can't get a companion for him until I move into a bigger one. Is he going to be ok if I put a little bit more food in his bowl? I'll only be away for a day.

He will probably be okay, still you should investigate how you can make it more comfortable and safe for your kitty. At least you could invest in an automatic feeder, so that your kitty doesnt have to be hungry.

I am still wondering how to solve this, really a hard one. Especially if you are an expat and know no one in your new country well (And also are likely to travel a few times per year). Unfortunately, I assume everything other than literally employing someone as a cat sitter would hardly work. With 6 Cats, even the cheapest solution would amount to multiple thousands of dollars a month otherwise.

@@TheCatButler Well, I did only consult 2 sitters at this point. The thing is in my case e.g. with 6 cats, they would definitely require 2 visits a day and also things like the usual cleaning & toilet maintenance, optimally also a little play session. So far it seems this gets expensive quickly, and I did not get any offer under $180 a day. Which gets expensive for a 2 week, or even one-month trip. Could be that I find someone with more reasonable pricing, but it will not get cheap in any case. So, I figured out that maybe the best workable way could be to find other people with the same problem and to employ someone, since that would likely be more affordable. Being able to travel is the biggest challenge when it comes to being a cat owner, in my view, since you are dependent on 100% reliable external help as you already did point out so well in the video.

When I have to be away, I have the sitter feed them freeze dried raw to make it much easier without having to feed them canned/dry food (yuck!). I normally feed raw 😊
