Hahaha I've had to work very hard to be "chill" about this 😂 Once the ball gets rolling it's a lot easier to be relaxed! I think one of the worst parts of military life is the anticipation - you know there's going to be a big change soon, and you're not sure what it entails. It's never as bad as you build it up to be in your mind!

Honestly, military life has always been reported as a hero life. But I could never quit my life, my career, my dreams to dedicate to another people, I couldn’t be happy. He’s lucky to have somebody who understand him and love him and dedicate it’s life to that with joy and do not regret of that.

I have an Air Force boyfriend (hopefully soon to be fiancé this year). I’m so glad you talk about Papa God in your videos. I just want to know what to expect when I become an Air Force wife. I never in my wildest dreams would have fallen in love with my Philip, if I didn’t meet him when I did. Papa God works in mysterious ways. I experienced my first deployment with him a year and a half ago, and that was very hard. I’m working on my alternative certification for becoming a teacher. Philip is so proud and supportive of me with doing that.

I am an army brat and I agree with everything onenote for another way that the govt controls the spouse (and kids) is through your social media and what you are and aren't allowed to post and they take it out on the military member. However, this is more once they get higher ranking. My dad is a LTC now and this started for him once he was a captain about to be a Major.

I've been married to a USMarine for 19 years. He has 21 years in service and will be retiring in June. We have 8 kids. My advice: *buy additional life insurance for both of you while you are young. *max out TSP, Roth IRA, and other investments. *save, save, save. *keep excellent medical records for him *do your best to continue some type of work or education even if you have kids. *stay out of debt!!! *have in-depth and hard conversations about money. *Take TAPS/TRS early and more than once.

That feeling/worry is always going to be there, but it gets a lot easier to deal with as time goes on! Seeing how happy and fulfilled my husband is by his job reminds me all the time that its all worth it :)

My hubby and I are seriously considering him joining the marines. We have a newborn and 2 year old, so being flexible is def not as easy as when it was just the two of us. After he goes through boot camp, do you know how quickly he will get stationed at a base? I’m surprised you will be moving after 6-9 months. Is that typical for a marine? I figured we would be stationed somewhere for the 4 year term.

Hi Nicole! I wouldn’t say that I’m a good person to be asking these questions... I think a recruiter would have more accurate answers! What I do know is that it depends on if he is going to enlist or if he’s going to be an officer. They have different training that they go through. Don’t quote me, but I believe that if he enlists, he’ll go to boot camp (without any family) for 13ish weeks and then he’ll be stationed somewhere (not sure for how long, I think it varies) For officers they have their own version of boot camp, then they attend another basic training school for 6 months, then they have a specialty school they’ll go to based on their assigned job, and then they’ll get stationed somewhere. If you see some of my other videos I talk more about what my husband’s timeline looks like, but I wouldn’t take that as whats definitely going to happen for you. It really can be different for every single person! I hope this was a little bit helpful, but I’d really encourage you to reach out to a recruiter who could give you more specifics!

Allison McPhail We have been chatting with recruiter. It seems like everything is so last minute! I wasn’t some definite answers before we just jump in ... but it doesn’t seem to work like that. I’ve been hearing/reading that the two most likely places we will wind up is nc or ca. Congrats on going to ca! I’m terrified of moving across the country. Nc would be so much better since all our fam is in va and nc, I just hate that’s there’s no way to know. Also wondering why his schedule is so wonky? Why doesn’t he go to work the same time every day?

Nicole Cable Ok good to know! I just wanted to make sure you were getting accurate information! There are a lot of bigger bases in CA and NC, but I wouldn’t say that you’re most likely to end up there. It really could be anywhere - including Japan. There really are so many little factors that go into where you’ll be stationed and for the most part it’s out of your control which is terrifying. I’ve never been so humbled about not having control over my life. I will say that it can seem really scary thinking about times they’ll be gone for training or how you could have to move across the country, but I’ve found myself settling into the uncertainty of it all... I think most people do! His schedule changes a lot because every day looks very different for him. Some days he’ll have an early morning hike or physical training or whatever and he’ll have to go at 3 am or some days it’s more relaxed and he doesn’t have to be in until 7 am. There’s not a real rhyme or reason to it - it’s just kinda how they operate where we’re stationed now. I’m not sure if that’s going to be true in CA or if things will be different. I do know some people where we are now who have a more traditional schedule and work like 7-5 every day, so their job also is a big factor in what their schedule looks like. I really wish I could give you a more solid answer, and I’m more than happy answer any other questions you may have!

I wasn’t part of my husbands recruiting process so I can’t share any advice from personal experience, but I would ask about specific dates for training and about where you’d likely be stationed. Those seemed to be 2 big factors for you guys. Just really pick their brain when you’re talking to them because they’ve been through the process themselves. Also, keep in the back of your mind the fact that their job is to recruit people so they’re going to definitely be pushing all the positives. Don’t be afraid of being a little pushy to make sure they’re not sugar coating the facts.

If you have your car move I recommend calling your car insurance company first and see if you can get an additional insurance or temporary raise your insurance so you have no deductible the Military Movers crushed and totaled one of our cars never made good on it the company May Flower will say it's on the driver

Yup! Different neighborhoods have different policies (one neighborhood on our base allows up to 2 dogs, but no cats are allowed) but i think most allow pets!
