I'm getting my first one done tomorrow at my local Henry Ford eye clinic, I chose the "Vivity" lens which acclaimed to be the current top of the line. During the initial exam after diagnosis of cataracs, I didn't even know there were various lens replacement options. I say don't put your trust solely in the literature, but rather do your own research such as from video's found here posted by the Dr.'s and their patients. I saw one here about one patient that got a lens that had to be replaced with the vivity because he was seeing "halo's". I know nobody that wants to have it done over again, so be careful, this isn't a muffler for your car.

How do you like the Vivity? I'm been waiting for weeks for the scheduler to call me with the surgery date. I hope the Vivity is half as good as the YT videos are saying it is. I'm not scared because my right eye has lost focus and anything would be an improvement.

@@tom95521 My right eye had turned out perfect but the left eye has a bit of halo effect which depending on the angles of light and how dry or fatiqued your eye is can appear as other illusions than a halo. There was a seemingly bit of difficulty the Doctor had while doing the left eye and the metal prong that holds they eye open began to hurt to point I told the Doctor. I also did not like that there is no blue blocking as a natural lens has, your natural lens has a slight amber color to it, so afterwards everything seems like you have light blue sunglases on. I found out after the surgery that Vivity makes a lens with slight amber tinting, but it was too late as one eye had allready been done. When one eye was done, it was easily visible, the difference between the Vivity (clear) lens and the eye's natural amber tint. I have not done a follow up appointment to complain about my left eye's halo, but plan to do so, there are vids here about correction after surgery and the patient had to go to another Doctor to get it done as the one who did the surgery kept saying it's allright.

@@zzubuzzThe Vivity has UV and Blue Light Filter (BLF) in the standard lens. Good for outdoors and computer use. Amber tint is probably worth the extra cost since most people will never have an IOL exchange. I will verify with my ophthalmologist. Thanks for the info.

We don’t get anaesthesia in the U.K., just local numbing in the eye.
@mark91183 жыл бұрын
The term anesthesia does not necessarily mean "general anesthesia" whereby a patient is out cold with a tube down the throat of the patient, so the term anesthesia my include just local numbing of the eye. I am pretty sure they don't normally use general anesthesia for cataract surgery in the USA, but they "may" use a sedative taken orally or via IV in addition to numbing of the eye. Eye surgery performed on small children (obviously not usually for cataracts) may require general anesthesia in order to make sure that the patient does not move during the surgery.

I'm claustrophobic I don't think I can go through this
@jb67122 жыл бұрын
I'm claustrophobic, am 70 years old, and I'm definitely going through with it! I want to be able to see so I can drive again, and so I can read, draw, crochet, and live a normal life. I can't stand animals being around me, so a Seeing Eye dog isn't an option!! You can overcome the very temporary anxiety of claustrophobia for this---I've had to overcome it over and over again, just knowing that in the moment, it's all right and I'm just fine, I'm safe, and nobody around me is going to let anything happen to me.

You get double vision,distorted focus.

Not everyone, not all the time, and as they've all said in the 6 videos I've watched on the process, 99.7% of patients have much, much clearer vision and can live normal lives again. Your negativity isn't going to prevent me from getting the cataract removed from my eye!
