m0a.com Is a flight review like a checkride? What items should you expect to see on a typical biennial flight review?

Every BFR has been fun. the Oral is just like two pilots having fun chatting about flying. rules, airspace etc. Same in the air.

I just did my BFR this past weekend. I love to learn both on the ground and in the air, so I actually had a fun time with it. Nowadays I fly pretty regularly but it's almost always with friends or family on board, so I see a BFR as my opportunity to get to do things I normally don't do (stalls, steep turns, hood time, etc.). Two years ago I hadn't flown for over 20 years, but the instructor signed me off for my BFR after only 2.7 hours of total flight time! I had spent the previous month listening to ATC, watching yours and other KZbin videos, reading a ton, and doing simulations on my home computer. Still, I did not honestly think I was ready so soon, so afterwards I spent several weeks flying alone before taking anyone else along.

Looking to one day get my private's license and have the enjoyment to just leisurely go around my hometown during the autumn/winter time and get beautiful pictures of the valley.

I'm having my first flight review... I have my PPL but haven't flown in 8 years. Studying like it's going to be an interrogation... but I hope it won't be.

Getting ready to do a BFR after no flying since my PP check ride 15 years ago. I trained at a university and life happened. So when i told the instructor its been 15 years hes like “well we will see how it goes” he also mentioned the faa recommendation that states “For pilots who have not flown at all for several years, a useful “rule of thumb” is to plan one hour of ground training and one hour of flight training for every year the pilot has been out of the cockpit.” Uggh.. So im watching lots of videos and reading all my old pilot books, i feel like i am cramming for exams, but i want to do really good and i feel good about it! I also use msfs on my computer with a flight yoke and flying around the area i will be in, trying to practice everything.

It’s sad how flying is so expensive. It cost me 5K to get my RPL back in 2007. Back then it was $180 per hour to fly with an instructor. Now it’s $335 an hour. It now cost $10K to learn to fly. Flying is easy, it’s like driving a car. Most people could fly but unfortunately only wealthy people can fly which isn’t fair because most poor people would be good pilots if they were given a chance. I am a good pilot but I can’t afford to fly. The world favours the rich and kills the poor. I might teach the poor how to fly for free, so then they only need pass the test ?

and the CFI is billed by the hour, so has every incentive to drag it out for as long as possible? Or do you do it fixed price and fail them so they have to pay you again for lessons? Interesting conundrum, for both the pilot under test and the CFI, what's the most profitable way to price it...

Most good CFIs have a jam packed schedule full of lessons and are in high demand. They don’t need to add extra unnecessary lessons just cuz

I was just thinking to myself that this would be a nice video subject. On that note, is there anything in particular a Private Pilot who came up under the PTS should know about with regards to the BFR and the new ACS?

*awesome video as always, I'm getting ready for my BFR and I can't believe it, I guess I still can't even believe I'm a pilot too!*

sooo...after 50 years I finally have the time & the $$ to get back to it. And, surprisingly to me, the health..I was fresh outa college when I got my license...learning new things was still relatively easy for me. Much of the practical flying stuff is starting to come back, altho a little sloppy on some things. What has changed DRASTICALLY is the panel! I grew up with a WW2 flight instructor as a Dad who did some ATP work on the side and he taught like a WW2 instructor in B-17, 24 & 29's...the maneuvers were heavily taught and you had to bee perfect.. But the new instruments (and 70+ years age) are like learning a foreign language! Currently I'm trying to learn a Garmin 430 and GPS....I use dead reckoning and VOR to really check it out as I still seem to know that! .. I have 4 hrs of dual in so far (in addition to the minimum of 20 hours back in the day) and I can finally hold altitude. I will say there are different methods now being taught that I'm trying to get the hang of...tho I revert back to the "crab to landing" for crosswinds rather then "dip a wing." Hoping that 10-15 hrs of dual and about the same solo makes me feel competent to take passengers again....
