I have visited North Carolina a lot. The best thing about NC are the people. They call it southern hospitality. They are genuine, and put a smile on your face. Then I meet folks who are not from NC, and you can always tell. Not all of them, but definitely most of them, are not nice people. Even when they are trying to be nice. And that can turn a good place bad very quick. No matter how cheaper it is.

I have roots in both CA and NC and enjoy aspects of both. They are certainly different and the information you provided was very helpful for newbies, but there was one aspect of California cities that you did mistake. Each of the major cities in California ; Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego… They all have very distinctive neighborhoods that have their own vibe and feel. Los Angeles actually has one of the less popular downtown areas of the three cities. Los Angeles is very spread out with a ton of different neighborhoods that all offer something a little different but I don’t believe that’s much different than most cities in the United States that have built communities around similar cultures, values or appreciations. I am moving back to North Carolina and I’m very excited about less traffic four seasons and more quiet, but I will definitely be planning my quarterly trips back to San Diego.

Thank you for your insights! Always great to hear from someone who knows both areas well. My sister lives in LA now which is where I got some insight from but she must have not experienced the neighborhood vibes you mention where she lives.

According to the Census in 2021 dollars, the average household income in Wake County is $88.471 while it's $76,367 in Los Angeles County.

Oh that's interesting! We were going on the average salary vs average household income but I'm surprised to see Los Angeles being so low there.

LA is super sexy and grown-up. Raleigh has a long way to go. Raleigh will get there tho; it will take a while.

I agree, completely different vibes. I would say in 10-15 years, Raleigh will be mostly like Austin, TX is today.

Newcomers always talk about the weather, taxes, cost and other financial aspect of States like NC when they move from a State like CA, but they rarely talk about the people. Probably because of where they come from its less important. It's the people and their common sense who have made NC a good place to live. Leave the "blue" politics, bougie attitude, pretentiousness and entitlement in California! North Carolinians are not perfect, but they are a down to earth, practical, helpful people inspired by the idea of southern gentry. They are some of the best America has to offer. So, don't bring the worst. And because you think you are bringing 'business and money' does not mean you are bringing the best. You can keep that in CA too.

Not many mexican AMERICANS like me there plus i heard the south is very racist.I think LA is more diverse better food weather entertainment and salarries are alot better.

The greater Raleigh area is pretty diverse and progressive. There certainly are pockets of racism in NC just like any other state, but the major NC cities do not have the feel of what you would consider the "South."
