I am pregnant with baby number 2 in my late 30s. I was young, tired, and uncomfortable at the end of my last pregnancy. I agreed to an induction at 40 weeks eventhough I was against it prior to. I was lucky and it caused no complications. In hindsight, it may have been best because baby was a bit over 9 pounds (no diabetes and healthy weight gain). I still don't recommend it unless medically needed. Those contractions are not normal. If you are a new mom, especially a low income mom, or mom of color, please make sure you talk to your support team about reminding you about your delivery goals when you're not "in your right mind". Support is super important.

Maya, your level of (self-)awareness is inspiring. I love that you're honest about your struggles with this lifestyle. The responsibility that comes with freedom is something I think about quite often. There is something about the video that feels like the miracle of life. Maybe it's the pregnancy, the flowers and your personal growth. I really like what you said about freedom and responsibilities. In my personal journey, I realized something similar: the more we want whether it's things, relationships or status, the more challenges we will have to face to succeed.

You are amazing for taking a leap of faith and moving to another country, on the country side at that! Living in a major city has its convenience, but also comes at a price. With everything going on in the world, you made a wise decision. Nothing worthwhile comes easy, as you know. Blessings to you and your family. You will be a great mom and your baby will have balance, peace and be healthy. Nothing worse than worrying about your drinking water and air you breathe.

Since I am giving birth in 2 weeks or so, I loved this video. I have two other kids and yet still learning a lot. One of the things I did this pregnancy that I did not do with the others is to create a postpartum plan. I noticed that I could have REALLY used that with my other babies. My husband and I DID plan on what to do if I started showing signs of the baby blues (and only having positivity in our home) but never for anything else like meals and things like that besides the first week. I'm so glad to see you're doing the same.

I wish this had been an option when I had my kids! I would harvest the stem cells and store them for your baby (just in case) and encapsulate the rest. I'm hearing that encapsulated placenta is really good for rebalancing hormones after the birth.

Maya I breast fed all 7 of my kids for 1 yr. baby it is a beautiful experience but it can be difficult and painful at times. I found it easier to sleep when my babies slept and I would wake them up to feed them instead of having them wake me up. My breastfed babies ate every two hours to the tee! I put had the babies in the bed with me most of the times for my sanity bc I was sleep deprived. It was harder on me bc I never allowed my first 3 babies to drink from bottles until about 6 months to avoid nipple confusion. It is frustrating for mom and baby when the baby gets nipple confusion. I had so much help as far as people making meals and coming over to help.

Did you know that 166,000 expecting parents saved their baby's stem cells in 2016? The stem cells in cord blood are currently approved to treat over 80 medical conditions, including lymphoma and leukemia. They are being explored as a treatment for Alzheimer’s, diabetes, autism, cerebral palsy, and a host of other conditions.

Also be prepared if you’re not going into labor at all. I was 41 weeks and 6 days before they induced me (I went to a different hospital than my care). My baby did not want to come and I was not dilating or contracting at all and I tried EVERYTHING!!! Apparently this is common for first births. I just want to say be open that things change. Also isn’t the woman’s body and the connection to the baby. For me my son was born in the OR and immediately went to the NICU. Took 8 hours before I could meet him and that was with me pressuring the nurses to let me go. What was beautiful though about it was putting little blankets for the baby on my chest and getting my scent on the blanket and having my husband bring them to our son and bring back the one he had on him to me to have next to my chest for helping my production. It was absolutely amazing despite it being a sad time. It is amazing.

My kids are grown and your video is straight up eye opening, especially with regards that you can decide what to do with the placenta and "cord clamping. I don't know about now, but here in CA they don't ask you sh*t; just cut it (if you're the father you have to ask), drop it in a bucket and take it away, and I never knew how much "street value" the placenta has, too! Great video, Maya. Congrats to you and Max. You're starting off right.

Thank you for sharing your tips on pregnancy as I am in my 2nd trimester. I learned some nuggets from you by watching this video and one that stood out to me is to protect my energy! Being pregnant during a pandemic is crazy and has been weighing on my mental so from here on out I am tuning out it all and focusing on positivity.

I really enjoyed your video! Your thoughts on freedom and responsibility are something I have thinking about as well. I feel like we need to balance freedom with interdependence. I think it is futile that we all grow our own food and do everything ourselves. There are people who really like to grow food, really like to sew, really like to cook. I envision a world where we all do things that we enjoy and the fruits of those are shared with others, so we all benefit and we all contribute in our own way.

You're living the life that is not just sustainable but is really safe! Your family is protected from all these nasty toxins we have in our cities because of pollution. We might all have to consider living this way in the months/years to come especially at the rate the world is deteriorating 😢 On a more positive note, congratulations to your family on your beautiful baby girl! Children are truly blessings from God and pregnancy + childbirth is such an extraordinary process😊😊🤩 God is amazing! All the best with your cutie! Enjoy every moment because it goes by too fast!

Good stuff! I wish I had known this back 20 years ago. I labored at home with my first child for 72 hours. I had to get to 3 cm before they would take me. My third childs heart rate started dropping and I had to have an emergency c-section. I ended up being so thankful for my epidural. Not being in a lot of pain really helped me enjoy the process more. I have 7. My youngest is 17. My 26 year old daughter is having her first. She was very easy bc I did most of the laboring at home. By the time I got to the hospital they were rushing me into the delivery room to push. I didn't have any pain meds with her. I wish you so much happiness. I've always wanted to visit Sweden. I've been a bit afraid bc I wonder about their racism. I recently received my DNA report and saw where some of my ancestors are from there.

I’m so glad you did your research. I had a hospital birth with my first child because I couldn’t afford the birthing center I wanted. With my second, I had a home birth and it was HARD, but I’m so glad I did it. I had placenta smoothies, and I couldn’t taste the placenta at all. If your base for the smoothies is pretty strong (I did Açaí), it takes over and that’s all you taste.

I wouldn’t recommend you to eat the placenta at all. Just because it is THE place that filters all the toxins ( pesticides, environmental polluent, heavy metal) I have a BA in biology and did my thesis on endocrine disrupters… surely i can send you link on studies that measure environmental polluants in pregnant women. The placenta is one of the organ they study to measure that.

We burned the cord...instead of cutting it with a handmade candle. Also planted the placenta and then planted a tree on top..an almond for my daughter, an apricot for my son. Best piece of advice for during birth from my mid-wives..breathe! Because you are opening and if you hold your breath..you close up..so trying to be relaxed is key and breathing. Bach Flower Rescue Remedy is nice...blessings.
