Thank you for this video. I'll mention it to Concord Carpenter to suggest a head to head comparison. Would you recommend using one of these over a router leveling system for things like that walnut crotch?

It all depends on the slab, and your ability to fine-tune flatness once you've got it close with a planer. Without some type of sled, you just can't get a slab perfectly flat using a planer held by hand. After you use the planer, you then come back with a hand plane and winding sticks to get it perfectly flat and smooth. But a planer gets you close. I still like a router and sled best because you get the slab perfectly flat, and only need sanding to remove the router marks. But a planer is a good second option.

I wish you guys were wearing a mic. It's kind of hard to hear you even with the volume cranked up.

The kickstand has nothing to do with damaging the cutter knives when you set it down. The kick stand prevents carless operation of setting the tool down while its still turning and it tacking off like a rocket.

That's its purpose, but it also serves to protect the knives.

@@Wood Protect them from what? Are you going to set it down on a grinding stone? Think about it logically. The blades are made of tool steel/HSS. If you think you are going to damage one of the knives simply by setting it down when the tool is not running you are sadly mistaken.
