I had a beautiful pal-loosa mare that was advertised as a pleasure horse. I took her around western and english the day we went to check her out. It was EXTREMELY muddy and a little unsafe so a did little jog on the straights. She was so kind and responsive to me right away my heart melted. Dad got her for me and about a week later I took her out on the front round we had and she was a FOX TROTTER!! 600 bucks for her and she was just so amazing I miss her so so much.

I sold my first horse at 10 years old. I had her for three years and I sold her at a horse sale. I had a woman and a guy they come back three times that was a 1974. She rode the horse she put her saddle on she put her bridal on wrote it some more, she paid 975 for it and I was hoping to get 300 the following year she had such good luck with it. I went back to the same sale with a four year old horse and it was quiet. She bought that horse too for 875 back in 74 and 75 that was good money, but after that, they’d come right to the farm and in five years, they bought seven horses off us, but we would take them trail riding. They got to ride the horses that they were looking at. It stayed the whole weekend and he brought her friends then I moved to Alberta, I sold three kids horses to one family but every time their friends wanted a horse they got me to purchase it if I never had one that fit their needs, but I’ve had better luck with thoroughbreds off the track then quarter horses but saying that I used to ride 150 miles a week on three head so I understand what you’re saying if you just go out for half an hour ride every couple of days or three days I could see where that could be a problem

One thing I try to do is have the seller leave the horse turned out when I arrive to see them! Then I can watch how the seller catches him, tacks him up, etc etc, from beginning to end.

Great and very helpful video! I have a good idea (and you definitely do not need to do it), but could you do a video on how often you should ride/ exercise your horse depending on discipline, age, etc? I think that would be helpful for quite a few people. Again, I understand if you cant/ don't want to. Thanks for reading.

FIRST rule is don't buy if the horse is already caught - ask to see the horse in the field and catch them. Check for sweat marks!

Not true, many times I've bought a horse and every time its not caught theyre rather untrained, or has health problems, every times it's happened to me.

I bought a $1400 trail horse planning to train her as a barrel racer. I didn't get a PPE because i was dumb and didn't think i needed it (I'm also a cheap skate!). I found out later she has a significant heart murmur and should not run barrels! I was so mad but i love my little mare! No judgement intended for you not getting PPEs! I value your opinion on everything!

This video is wonderful! I am not in any position to buy a horse atm, but I want to learn as much as I can as a beginner equestrian. There are *many* points brought up in this that are very important to keep in mind. Both while buying a horse, and just in general while working with horses & other equestrians. Thank you & Tucker for sharing your advice and experiences with us!

I spent 6 months on Facebook and it was not a good experience. I finally reached out to the barn owner where I was taking lessons and asked her to find me a horse. she is hauling a horse in for me for a 2 week trial period. I will pay to board for 2 weeks but okay with that. hopefully, this horse is the one! i'll meet him on Monday

Gr8 video. You look young but wise for your age. This should help a lot of people who don't really know a lot about horses. Looks are not always what they may seem to be. That being said that should go for pretty much any animal you want to buy. Tucker is a sweet boy. TY.

Another thing I like to do is measure how many hands for example my chin is. This way you can see how many hands the horse is without proper measurement, this way you know if the seller is lying. This is also helpful in auctions since you know nothing about the horses.

i might be getting a horse in some months or next year but i’m worried i won’t be prepared enough or i don’t know enough ( medically mainly )do you have any tips to know when you’re ready to own a horse?
@CarmellaAbel Жыл бұрын
I don’t think you can ever fully be ready to own a horse; it’s kind of like having a child in a sense 😂 But, you can get a lot of experience from leasing a horse first!

I have a question that uas been bugging me for a long time…how do you know what size horse is right for you (like how many hands, etc.)? I have always loved big drafts but I feel like a little mustang would be a better fit for my first horse. What are your thoughts? Fyi I am 5’4” and about 120Ibs
@xxxooo41 Жыл бұрын
I’m around that height and weight and really your feet and legs need to be in the good spot where horses get their cues. You feet should be around the belly not hanging, not too short
