My ex and her nephew used to compete to buy awful tourist gifts. Being in the navy he got some real belters. One summer a package arrived, with recognisable handwriting, and was duly unwrapped. It contained an item about 8 inches long and 3 inches high and deep. It was a battery powered, fluorescent green, plastic mosque. And, yes, it would chant / call to prayer (badly) 5 times a day if the batteries were left in. It looked awful and sounded worse. Clearly for tourists - anyone of the faithful would surely be horrified by it. Nailed the brief though.

American here: I genuinely don't know where our MM-DD-YYYY convention comes from. The only thing I can think of is how we verbalize dates: We would say "July 10th" instead of "the 10th of July" if we were verbalizing a date, and that's the only time I can think of where it makes some amount of sense to have the month come before the date.
