Tip: i had a c section with my first. They actually asked if 2 students could be in the room to observe. That was literally the only job they had so I asked if they stayed if they could please take as many pictures as they could and handed them my phone so my husband and I could be in the moment ( I asked if they could lower the drape before they pulled baby out so we could still see our little guy enter the world :). They were actually really happy to help. I got the idea from my mom who had me by csection as well and asked the students to do the same :)

My nurses were awesome in all 3 of my c-sections with taking pictures! My first was an emergency after 48hrs of active labor (they finally figured out she was stuck) but my nurses helped my hubby so much!

I would add for summer babies: pack two options for going home outfits. I packed my hospital bag during a heat wave. It was like 90 so there was no way I was putting my newborn in long sleeves. Then it starting pouring the day I went into labor and dropped to like 50. Didn’t think to repack hospital bag. Whoops.

The hospital I delivered in twice has a heated shower bed. So even if you can't get up after delivery they take you in there and help you shower and wash your hair. Makes such a difference to start motherhood with a clean body.

Thanks for sharing! To all the Dads out there...pack your own suitcase! The pregnant lady in your life already has a lot to do...she shouldn’t be packing your hospital bag too. Go over the list of items needed together but actual packing should be done by the Dad...he is a capable adult after all hehe. I recommend packing suitcases with wheels and a pullout handle. Then no one has to strain their backs, neck, shoulders to carry or lift heavy bags...easy transport into and out of the car. Plus, someone will need to carry baby in the car seat while mama is being wheeled into or out of the hospital. Print out your master list and make copies so everyone knows what they need to pack in their suitcase and can check it off. We only packed 2 suitcases (1 for mama & 1 for dad)...my suitcase had my necessities along with baby essentials. Make sure your home is well stocked with the things you will need when you arrive home after the hospital, items for grandparents or babysitter for your kids that need to be watched while you are at the hospital, or for anyone watching your pets and taking care of your plants. Keep all your important hospital documents in a folder with a pen so when you get there or are leaving the hospital you are not scrambling to find health insurance information, ID, etc to show hospital staff especially when you need to fill out and sign forms. Find out if your hospital will let you register for your labor and delivery ahead of time online (ours def did) which can save you & your partner time and stress. I’m going to be delivering my 2nd child via c-section at the beginning of April 2020 so good luck to all the preggers out there! You can do it!!🤰🏻😀

Bringing a journal is a great idea! I did record my birth story and birth impression in my phone journal and I am glad I did!!! The memories and facts get evaporated so fast after labor with all the hormones and sleep deprivation!

Imagine 20 hours in the hospital before you deliver, complications following where nobody is eating and everyone is just dealing with stuff, and he's with you every step of the way, but when it's finally over it's now been over 24 hours since dad's eaten and it's after the cafeteria closes and though the nurses will bring mama the food she needs, nobody's bringing dad any snacks.

Mama_in_pyjammas I think this depends on the hospital.. where I delivered all 3 of mine they had a snack bar and even a keurig in the delivery room that was available to me and my husband and the hospital my daughter is having surgery at in the next couple weeks even has an entire room that’s dedicated to snacks and drinks for dads/other support mom may have with her. It’s a total lifesaver!

C-section mama here! I was in labor for a while and pushed for a while so I still had quite a bit of damage down there, but I wore my own undies home. An older nurse actually made a comment about my "skimpy" black underwear (they were full coverage seamless underwear from Target 🙄). Definitely glad I got a size up for delivery though cause it gave me an extra layer between my yoga pants and my Incision site.

About to have my fourth on c- section but I still get nervous! I only bring one bag for everyone and with wheels, when you get out of the hospital there's suddenly a bunch of things you have to carry, plus the baby, plus they take you out on a wheelchair, and I couldn't carry much, so my husband had to go to the car several times yo take everything, so this way we found is more practical, as for the contents: change of clothes, toiletries, electronics, blanket for the way home, pretty much, nothing fancy

It’s so interesting for me to see what other people back in the hospital bag because I’ve had two kids in between both kids before the kids were born I was in a hospital room for two hours and 21 minutes so I didn’t need anything. We barely got hooked up to monitors before babies came LOL I love though everything you included and thank you so much for sharing. I have four littles. We love the Homedics white sound machine. We’ve have one in every bedroom in our house since our first was born. When I was pregnant with my third it hit me I needed to bring a white noise machine to the hospital so we would all sleep better! It was amazing how much better our experience was. The best packing video ever. There are actually some good tips here for any hospital stay! Way back when I had my kids I never had cool things with me. Just clothes for baby and me ..not to mention labor and birth was a solitary event..no Dad's allowed. I was lucky that I had very short labors and deliveries. Our second baby had a short stay in the NICU and food for my husband really became a problem. It seemed like the only time he had to run to the cafeteria...was when it was closed. Luckily the maternity nurses were already treating us tenderly because of the NICU scaries and got him meals when they could, but snacks are definitely a good idea.

Bianca, I’m sure it’s obvious to everyone, but Jordon’s advice in this instance is very much US centric. I’m in Canada and the hospital supplied diapers and wipes and that was pretty much it. I had to have everything else both for me and baby. And the only thing you could take home with you were the extra diapers. So if you’re looking for advice for your hospital bag, look for local videos and see if you can ask your care provider or hospital what they provide so you’re not surprised on the big day.

A savior for me was a mawmaw zip front house dress. Go to your local goodwill and buy some, they're so cheap you can toss them when they get blood/vomit/poop on them and you have easy access for nursing and monitoring checks from staff. They're PERFECT. I lived in them for about 4 weeks after my csection.

Jordan, I love all of this advice! I wish I had know this with first baby. My first go around. I didn’t even know I could get up and shower. So I didn’t shower for like 4 days! 😭 Luckily with my second baby I took a shower the SECOND the nurse told me I could. Also, you said a new born out fit and a preemie outfit. I had the opposite problem. My first son was a big baby. 9 pounds 5 ounces and 21.5 inches long. So when we went to leave the hospital, he was squished in his outfit. His knees where almost touching his chest. I felt so bad! Thankfully we live 8 minutes form the hospital and we got home, took some pictures and immediately changed him. But ladies expecting babies, talk to your doctors. They usually have a guess on how big the baby/babies will be. So go off of that to choose what sizes you should bring. 😊😊 Best of luck everyone. Hopefully one day I can convince my husband to have another baby. But he thinks #15 is too many. Lol jk jk I just have 2! 😆🤣

I had a c section and adult diapers were the only thing I could wear . You still bleed out of your bits after a c section and underwear hurt the incision

Do they give you adult diapers, or do you have to bring your own? I keep hearing people say not to bring toiletries and stuff, because the hospital provides them. I don't want to get there and be missing things I need. O.O

As a L&D nurse, as far as meals go I always tell mom to over order and let dad have some of it. The kitchen doesn’t know or care! Also, as far as jewelry goes, that is really good advice to take it all off because if you were having a C-section and especially if there is an emergency section that you weren’t planning on having you cannot have jewelry on during the operation. That’s not a good time to try to get your wedding ring off that is stuck on because you are so swollen.

See this is why I watch you! You’re the realest! Leaving space in that hospital bag is key for bringing things home! I’m 37 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 and I’m planning not to bring certain things because I know the hospital will provide it and I’ll have some to bring home.

In Ireland we have to bring everything to the hospital ourselves. Everything down to nappies (diapers) and soothers (binkys) clothes for baby and you for the time they stay in the hospital. Dads are not allowed to stay after 9.30pm at night so no sleeping at the hospital.

Australia is the same unless you have a private room, then dad can stay. The thing I love is that it's free to give birth in the hospital.

Not pregnant. Had 5 babies, yet watched the whole video. Fun to see different ways to do this. My births are fast. Half of what is brought never is used. One thing that i def support is 2 diff outfit for mom and baby for going home. You do chg your mind! My 4th baby i wasnt exactly sure how big she would be so i brought a preemie jammie and a newborn jammie to go home in. Preemie wasnt needed but i was glad i brought it just in case of my earlier than full term- arrival-bubs. Congrats Jordan on your twins!!

My first baby ended up being huge and nothing we brought to the hospital fit him! Poor thing couldn't even squeeze his legs into a onesie! Our last baby was supposed to be a girl....turned out she was actually a HE! so yeah he wore a cute little flowery onesie for the first 24 hrs haha

Your hospital bags are too cute. 😍In my last 5 pregnancies I made it a point to bring my flat iron along with my makeup/ bathroom necessities and a nice pair of fluffy cozy house slippers.

FYI: If you’re going to take a matching outfit for you and the baby to go home in, you must always pack an alternate outfit of clothing for just you, in case the baby has to stay in the hospital longer than you! (Like if the baby is in the NICU for extra days, after the mom is released!!) My daughter had to stay in the hospital NICU for the first nine days after birth, but I was released after I think after day 3 or 4? When they released me, I REFUSED to put on the brand new outfit I got for myself that matched my daughter’s outfit, so I made my husband go home and bring me something else to wear out of the hospital! 😱😱 ALWAYS be prepared for the alternative!!!!

Agree with all of this! First time I felt dead and couldn't get out of bed. Didn't want to take pictures or change but regret not getting even one. Second time, I didn't even want to stay in the hospital I felt so good. Took a shower, changed and did my makeup and felt like taking a million pictures. Every birth is different!
