Here is what I wore in Montana this Summer. I was unsure of what clothing to pack for our Montana camping trip in July. Now that we are back, I made a packing list so you would know what to wear when you visit Montana in the summer.
For our trip we visited the Big Sky Resort area, went into West Yellowstone but no Kevin Costner, and then camped in West Glacier National Park. So this packing list is what I wore to those areas of Montana in July. I will throw in bonus travel tips and I will share what my husband wished he would have packed at the end of this video.
You will wear clothes for a warm summer day as well as cool days and cold nights. That sounds like a lot of outfits, but if you choose the right clothes, you will pack what you need for your visit to Montana. Check the weather prior to your visit. #visitmontana #montanamoment #glaciernationalpark #bigskyresort

So glad to hear that you enjoyed you’re trip to Big Sky Country. We are native Montanans and have lived many places (including Houston 😝) , but so grateful we were able to move back home over 20 years ago. Please come back again. Maybe ski Big Sky or snowmobile into Yellowstone in the winter. Every season in Yellowstone has something beautiful & different to offer but there is just something a little extra special about it in the winter.

Thank you for this. This Texan is visiting Montana for the first time in July, and this layering is what we do in Spring. Also, I have several pair of Keen shoes that can be worn in the water and aren't so hot and bulky as hiking boots. You're a lucky woman doing all the traveling.

Now I want to see Montana in an RV! But I'll need tips for that also. My husband has the zip leg pants and wore those the first time he visited me in Atlanta. It was our first "date" and he didn't know how to pack for the visit, but he won me over with those. I knew he had "travel" potential. Thank you for the tips and thanks for including pics of your guys (Alliver!) I always travel with an inexpensive pair of flip flops (for the shower or hotel room) but would not have thought of the "water dips" from the car...great tip! And as always thank you for the links~

As one who grew up in CO and visits MT and ID, I think you nailed it! 😃 I often use my Chacos on hikes, walks, and dipping my feet in a stream-I don’t even take them off. Straps dry quickly enough for me; however, some people may be uncomfortable with wet straps.

Great video! The only thing I would add to your list is wool socks for hiking. That probably depends on the distances you will be hiking, etc. The non-clothing things I would add are bug repellant, sunscreen, and bandaids for any blisters from hiking. The air in Montana is really dry, so some lip balm and lotion or moisturizer is a good idea. You can always buy it there if you don't want to pack it. I like the Burt's Bees products, and you can get many of them in travel sizes.

I am so glad I saw this video! I am a longtime subscriber but I am finally getting to travel to Montana this July. First, I do not like Chacos sandals. The bed of the shoe is so hard it rubs my heel raw. My question is, are hiking boots necessary? I have tennis shoes and Magellan hiking sandals. Would they suffice? Not much use for hiking in Louisiana where I live. 🤷‍♀️
@TravelTipsbyLaurie
@TravelTipsbyLaurie 3 жыл бұрын
For our light hikes, the trails are so shaded that they are a little wet. It seems like it's been dry there lately so the sandals may be fine. I was glad I had my hiking shoes-wore them on the plane to save space. But your sneakers may do the job too now that I think about it.

The reason it gets so chilly in the shade when it's hot in the sun (especially in the mornings) is because of the lack of humidity. Same reason that, if done right, you don't need A/C in the summer. I've lived in Wyoming for 8 years, so I'm well acquainted. I remember the first time I ever came out west, I was constantly adding and taking off layers because the temperature was always on the line between warm and chilly, even in July.

As always Laurie's videos are so helpful and informative. Plus she seems like a really good person. However, I was very concerned when I saw this video. CV19 cases are on the rise in Montana but you are correct, the overall numbers are quite low. But, there is a big problem in Texas - the point of origin! There are over 300,000 cases. Houston medical professionals and public health officials are sending out serious warnings and alerts as have many others from Texas. I have nothing against Texas or any other state, my concern is with the highly contagious corona virus and inadvertent community spread. 30 to 40 percent of those who test positively are asymptomatic. There is such pain, loss and struggles from this virus. Do you really think it is wise or considerate to travel around the country from a hot spot at this time? This is a very tough situation, but why are we not looking at it from a national, comprehensive perspective so we can beat this thing and help everyone?!

Hi Laurie! I don't think anyone who watches your videos would think for one moment that you would not travel without wearing a mask! But so do essential workers, teachers and Healthcare professionals all around the country. Many of whom sadly have contacted the virus, some have died. I don't get the connection between your freedoms, which I also value and traveling during a pandemic. It's about a highly contagious disease that couldn't care less about anyone's freedom or state line or anything else for that matter. It spreads because that's what viruses do. Currently there is no vaccine or surefire ways to treat it. And the impact is terrible. The situation is on the verge of being out of control and in some areas it has already gone "viral." This is what I am deeply concerned about. Recently I have reread the Declaration of Independence. Yes, they speak of individual freedoms AND a greater good that is bigger than themselves... AND a profound commitment to one another. It is something to consider. That is my point. Thank you.
