The way I manage to play this kind of polyrhythmic independence exercises (or beats) is first a listen to them over and over, then I write them down and begin to play parts of them extremely slow and then gradually add more parts and speed it all up.

Drums, especially for me. I'll pick something new up. Practice it for about an hour, and then rest on it for a day. When I come back. I typically figure it out within 30 minutes. From there is about a week of refinement, and I got it. Just take a break. Have the balls to come back afterward. Don't let your ego keep you from succeeding.

If I'm 100% honest, it makes me a little happier knowing that you struggle with certain beats exactly how I do! 😅 sometimes when you elevate someone to the level of, "never gonna be able to do that myself", its nice to know you're still human! Really good video, where it shows clistar clear the level of Estepario.... just one quest... Did you hear before the song and interiorized for long time,or new to the song? just asking because if you were new to the song it was a awesome job, but i think it will make a notorious change in the "autopilot" aspect (like you comment), because in my mind is harder to count that just hearing in my head were the snares land 👏

Yeah I feel that. If it’s one you really like then make a point to use it again the next day, and the next. It will soon become your go-to. Which can eventually become a bad thing haha it’s hard to remember a lot of things note for note. I try to understand the sticking patterns more-so which drum/cymbal I’m hitting. That helps too!

Dude you have got to start writing it out before you play it it's easier to see where the snare lands on each count before you even try it. You have to do it perfectly slow before you can bring up the speed. I totally feel your frustrations though and I think this is good stuff man so I’m gonna sub cause yeah, honesty is so important and rare. Great work! Write it out!

Any tips for a budget drum mic setup? From digging around on the internet, it seems normal budget rigs might look like a heart mic with a single overhead or two overheads with a kick mic and a snare mic - but I feel like I'm in a bit over my head here. Mic positioning or model advice would be much appreciated!
@nickey74732 жыл бұрын
what exactly is your budget?
@redgopnik22272 жыл бұрын
@@nickey7473 a few hundred total or roughly 100-150 per mic as the limit - I'm willing to spend a bit over budget if they're mics that shouldn't need to be upgraded for a while, like the SM57. I've got 4 open lines on my sound card and some rickety used mic stands so I'm not too worried about costs outside of the mics themselves
@nickey74732 жыл бұрын
@@redgopnik2227 okay, so in your case I'd probably get the following: - for overheads either a pair of Lewitt LCT 040 MATCH or a pair of Audio-Technica AT2020, watch some reviews on both of these and decide which one will work better for you - Shure SM57 for the snare drum, classic - Audix D4 for the kick drum - and if you have enough budget for tom mics then Sennheiser E604 on all of them all of these mics should last you a very long time, and you can absolutely get good results with those!
@redgopnik22272 жыл бұрын
@@nickey7473 really, AT2020s for drum overheads? I've had a few run-ins with them in the past and my impression of them was they were pretty poor choices in small spaces and cannot handle any wind but otherwise have an even response and can pick up multiple sound sources well idk i'm just afraid they would sound really washy as overheads
