@20:55 you discuss the illustration where the OSB is installed hanging over the side of the slab causing a potential entry point for insects. Couldnt uou just apply stucco in the underside sealing the gap or fill it with some other agent? On some job sites, the problem example is exactly as shown, what is your preferred method?
@eddaher56826 ай бұрын
The installation of ½ x 1 inch L-metal flashing at the bottom of the shear panel prior to the application of the weep screed is a good option but not in all instances because the concrete slab is not always straight. In many cases I will fill in the void with stucco. I’m sure there are other ways to approach this.

Excellent, thanks. Clear and concise. Any plans to do one for EIFS? I'm not based in Cali ( unfortunately ) and this system would be more common where I am working.

Hi nice video. Can you please explain why there's a need to do separate scratch and brown coats? Why can't you just place a 3/4" thick single coat?
@eddaher5682 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your complement; unfortunately, applying a full ¾” coat of plaster would begin to sag and eventually fall off of the wall.

Why didn’t the window area above and below, not have plywood backing? And/Or why not install it instead of the wire backing for the lath and paper? I’m a student of the trade. Perhaps there’s a good reason why these areas did not have plywood as it relates to the window??? Please explain and thanks for the education. Great video!
@eddaher568210 ай бұрын
I was a subcontractor on this project and was not involved with the framing of the room addition. I’m not sure why they decided to eliminate the plywood above and below the window. However, it became beneficial for me because it gave me a chance to explain what to do in this type of situation. In the 50’s through to the 80’s open stud framing was common in southern California. In 1994 we had a major seismic event in Northridge California which led to some new major code requirements. One of the amendments to the code was to install plywood over the stud walls to act a shear wall in the event of an earthquake. I explained the benefits of shear panel (plywood) in my video.

Why would you not frame the window openings with plywoood, instead of stringing wire for the lath wire? I've not seen this previously.

Our builder painted our stucco with an Elastomeric paint. Is this the exception when painting stucco?
@eddaher5682 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion elastomeric or any other type of paint conceals underlying issues that can go unnoticed until it is too late, like a roof leak, as explained in my video “Don’t Paint Stucco” kzbin.info/www/bejne/infOaXSsqc-de80 . A painted stucco soffit under a deck will conceal a deck leak as well. The only recommendation I can offer is to have your roof and decks checked at least every one or two years by qualified licensed professionals in those fields.

Over plywood does it have to be 20 min or can it be 10min
@eddaher5682Күн бұрын
A minimum of two layer, 20 minute asphalt saturated felt paper is recommended. Two layers of 60 minute paper is better.
@brothersofdatribe8719 Жыл бұрын
why didnt you flash the screed then overlap with the paper ? that is common practice on every jobsite ive been on

Isn't a Sq yd 100 Sq ft
@eddaher5682 Жыл бұрын
I believe you may be thinking of roofing. In the stucco industry a square yard is 9 square feet. In the roofing industry, a roofing square is 100 square feet. A 100 square foot area of roof makes a roofing square. However, a “square” is not 100 square feet of roofing material. It is the amount of material needed to cover 100 square feet of roof.
