This stupid construction company ended up being a con artist. The workers did an awful job with stucco repair and dumped mortar down the storm drains, then started asking for extra money. I have decided to redo the stucco myself. I just bought a rotary hammer, trowel, float, and mixing attachment for the rotohammer to patch it myself, and your videos seem pretty helpful! I don't have any experience patching stucco, my only experience with masonry is concrete to hold a post. I have demolished stucco before to fix pipes but someone else did the patching. Anyways, thanks for the cool video.

@@DragonBuilds Good morning Rice Flavored Gum dude, This may have happened because they used a same day stucco and overmixed the cement/plaster. 3 to 5 minutes max or the stucco becomes weak, not that weak when it crumbles with your hands. 🤔 Surely they must have done other weird things it could be anyone guess as to what they did to the mix, and or they did not wet the scratch coat thus their next finish dried on contact instead of obtaining a mechanical bond. A mechanical bond is where the existing stucco is dampened so that when the new stucco is applied they weld together for ultimate adhering. If done properly this is the strongest bond know in the plastering industry. It lasts thousands of years.😉 Note, You may also type in any question you may have on Stucco/Plastering issues on our channel, and like magic, a video will appear to explain how it's done. Kirk you are one of the best teachers I ever had, thank you for all the information you share, I remember working with my dad as a kid and everytime I see your videos it takes me back to those days when I tried to help him do the scratch coats, even though this is not my field I sometimes take some stucco repairing jobs and when I get stuck on what to do, I always go to your videos but this time I'm having a difficult time deciding if to tare down a wall that was build replacing a garage door, the wall is cracking around the garbage door, I was starting demo on the inside tearing down the drywall and to my surprise the Window frame and the studs in the wall were rotten because of a leak that's been there for years, the stucco looks good except the Crack opening and for sheer plywood of the inside that is rotten, obviously the previous person didn't do a good job because the looks like the wall is separating, what's your advice?

Howdy Pancho Dude, sorry for the late reply, but often some question and comments are missed. Sound like it was lathed wrong or the cracks are 5 to 15 years old. That's about how long the rain coming through them will take to rot out the shear wall and studs. No doubt you have already torn the stucco off and replaced the lath and re-stuccoed?🤔

Hi Kirk thanks for the video's now what I'm wanting to do is re-doing my stucco that is pretty thick and coarse to a smooth finish, is that possible? I've seen some of your video's with this process but the stucco doesn't look that thick, or I haven't found the right video yet, and also the front of my house has siding that isn't in the best of shape so I was gonna either replace the bad sections or stucco it, I prefer to stucco it with smooth finish, now I can just put paper and wire (lathing) over the siding, is that correct? Kirk, I have a time sensitive question but first thanks to your videos and your kind and informative email help I'm onto my next mega stucco repair. I'm a 50 year old female artist sculptor and over my life have renovated 7 homes, (most built 60ies to 70ies), and I owned a kitchen and bath design business eons ago. My currents project is 20' x 5'. I made a very rookie mistake and ran out of stucco half way across the wall at 6pm, working under flood lights. I am wondering if I should give it til tomorrow or carry on today. There's no sheer plywood or weep (built 1968), so the stucco is basically the structure...

Good morning Melanie, this is not a big deal. Simply start off where you left off. 😉 Heres, the idea, if you're going to paint this wall, your tie-in should be tight. To on the money, or you may see this cold joint when painted. Happens to the best of us.😉 If your planning on applying a color coat maintenance-free finish, simply apply a bonding agent over the complete wall with the cold joint. Thus you won't get ghosting or notice where you stopped and restarted the next day. Apply the bonding agent with a roller, and it does not have to be pretty. Its sole purpose is to give the wall the same suction, thus no cold joint. Good morning Melanie, if your painting the wall, you don't need a bonding agent. You use a primer and paint instead. When a person stops plastering in the middle of a wall and begins another time, what can happen is when the two are joined unless it's a sand finish, you may notice excess sand on the existing wall.😉No doubt if this happens, you will be the only one to notice it.🤔 Here's a video that might show you what I'm referring to. Evening my friend, Stucco provides thermal insulation against hot weather, keeping a home cool in the summer, especially if the exterior is a light color. Stucco insulates against outside noises, making the inside of your home noticeably quieter than with exterior siding. Stucco strengthens a home, providing additional structural rigidity. This is because a stucco building is permanently encased in an envelope of wire and cement. If you don't like the look of acrylic stucco or. Even cementitious stucco (a matter of personal taste), wood siding, or cement board siding are better choices than aluminum or plastic. However, none of these sidings will last as long or be as maintenance-free stucco. KGP

Evening Jose, that's easy. The designations of 30 Minutes and 60 Minutes building and what it means. These designations refer to a moisture resistance test that uses a moisture-sensitive dye as an indicator. Do you realize what this means? Me neither. I'm an applicator, not an engineer. Code says to use 60 minutes of two-ply paper. We use two ply 60-minute paper.

Howdy James, food for thought. However, billions of homes worldwide would leak as we write each other. The fact is nails, and all staples, whether from a hammer tacker or a staple gun, are self-healing.🕵‍♂

Good evening Bill dude, sorry, It's in the description, there's a link to it. It would have been in bad taste to also add it to the end of this video.😏 Note, You may also type in any question you may have on Stucco/Plastering issues on our channel, and like magic, a video will appear to explain how it's done. This feature is miles ahead of any plastering forum. 🥳 www.giordanoplastering.com/

Exzackory, but that's not the point of this video, so is the joke on you, or are you kinda stupid that your mind does not understand or comprehend this small fact? 💩 this is the closest thing to a pile of whiny shit I could find. Too bad it's smiling.
