Let me know what you think of the new video format. I decided that I had to come up with something more Content ID friendly since it's been a real pain for me to deal with for a while, but especially in recent months. I think this "classroom" thing has some fun potential and hopefully will be able to streamline my video making process more.

I think Over the Garden Wall deserves a good watch from Gravity Falls fans as well because it has some similarities. For example the vibes between Greg and Wirt are very similar to Dipper and Mabel's, there are two siblings who get thrown in a mystical/mysterious world with various creatures and there are quite memorable characters but the show focuses more on being unnerving than comedic and it's shorter than GF (OTGW has 10 episodes)
@spector18922 жыл бұрын
I'll add one because I truly think it fits. Infinity train, its a anthology series and has many gravity falls like elements. The humour is similar in places, the charecters are well defined and go through significant development and most of all the sci-fi elements and mysteries are intriguing and wondrous. There are loads of mysteries in the series, and some things are left ambiguous which just makes this world feel even more interesting in my opinion, oh and there are also some really horrific things. You will be shocked by the fact this shit was made by cartoon network. Only negative is thay the ending is super unsatisfying because it was cancelled prematurely. However I still think its worth it.

Inside Job is NOT Alex's next show! He was an executive producer. The creator was Shion Takeuchi. Maybe you say this later, I'm only about a second in, but I'm just saying this now because it's really important to me that Shion gets credit for this because, while Alex obviously had his hands in it, mentioning him without mentioning Shion is doing her a disservice.
@bengi89072 жыл бұрын
I agree. I was caught off guard by saying he made it. Shion worked on Gravity Falls and took that experience to make her own show.
@Krossxc2 жыл бұрын
It was kinda quick so I see why you might have missed it but I did put text onscreen crediting her at 0:24 But yeah, were I to make this video over again, I'd have mentioned her verbally. When I said "Alex's show" I really meant that it was the next show he played a major role the creation of. I'd say that you could still call it "his show" but it definitely is also "Takeushi's show". It's both of their shows, along with anyone else who played a major role in it's production. But this is basically the splitting of hairs I was talking about. Point is, yeah, she deserves credit

You're right that Twin Peaks becomes a lot closer to the feel of Gravity Falls as it goes on. It feels like the live action version of it a lot of the time! Twin Peaks is a great combination of mystery, drama, comedy, with a bunch of quirky characters in a small town with some paranormal things happening. It's also very VERY weird. Only thing about it is that it is a little slow at times, being a 90s show from David Lynch, but it's slowness can be a good thing too.

I watched or started most of these recommendations except for Rick and Morty & Made in the Abyss. I agree with most of the recommendations and I feel like Inside Job is a good contender for a similar vibe, as the creator Shion Takeuchi takes her experience in working on Gravity Falls well and applies it well in Inside Job as the cast of characters are awesome and have significant depth. Funny when you got to recommending Avatar, I couldn’t help but think that both Avatar and Gravity Falls are pop culture and media defining shows for both the 2000s and the 2010s respectively. Everyone on the cartoon side KZbin always makes comparisons to either Avatar or Gravity Falls with any new show that would come out as they are seen as gold tier standards for both animation and television. Seeing Avatar being recommended as something to watch Avatar is interesting choice because Avatar and Gravity Falls have two different distinct tones to me. I find Avatar as something to be analyzed on an animation, writing and world building aspect whereas Gravity Falls introduced the idea of how to run a long form mystery narrative and creative humour. Personally, I can always get into Avatar a lot easier as it’s story starts off on the right foot with the first episode and gets better halfway through the first season. I like Gravity Falls, but I had to struggle to get through the first season as I felt bored half the time with the implied mystery, but that isn’t to discredit the writing as it is amazing. Other series that I also found to watch after Gravity Falls are Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated which aired around the same time as Gravity Falls with a mystery oriented narrative. Then there’s a lesser known series called Detentionaire, a series that I find awesome in writing even though the animation may not appeal to most audiences. It’s not for everyone. Honestly the only other comparable series to me is Infinity Train which also has mystery and the art of character reflection. This has been another amazing video and I love watching your work, Kross. Have a nice day/evening.

Thank you very much for the kind words! I gotta say, I've never heard such a succinct description of the effect that Gravity Falls and Avatar had on their respective decades that seems so accurate. Good stuff Also Mystery Inc is great
@bengi89072 жыл бұрын
@@Krossxc Thank you. Though the only difference with the trends these two shows started in their respective decades is how networks treat the trends. I found that looking back with what Avatar started in the late 2000s and early 2010s with shows like Thundercats 2011, Young Justice, Tron Uprising and Sym-Bionic Titan that adopted serious storylines that involved taking down a dictatorship or an unseen enemy or bigger than life; having deep world building and characters; and anime leaning and action oriented animation. The only issue was that these shows were canceled for one reason or another due to either network meddling or lack of toy sales. Which was sad to live through and more sad for writers and creators at the time who noticed the trend that Avatar had started in 2005. By comparison, Gravity Falls trend had led to shows having three to five seasons max after it ended because networks no longer cared for things such as toys much to keep shows running as they aired them in blocks instead and these shows have long form mysteries to keep viewers invested. Honestly I could go on with how much of a strong influence these two titan shows have on media as a whole with how alumni such as Aaron Ehaz and Shion Takeuchi made what people believe to be spiritual successors to Avatar and Gravity Falls respectively. Then there’s the discussion on how strong after shock with Avatar’s resurgence in late 2010s and early 2020s as the creators have made their own studio and notice how many people still talk about Avatar while we are continuing to feel the trend of Gravity Falls still to this day with Amphibia, Owl House and Inside Job as they give off long form mystery storytelling that was started all the way back in 2012. We continue to live in the age of two shows that have and will continue to change the television and animation landscape for a long time.

i think Final Space could easily go on the list too, it kind of falls off after season 1 (i think, i dont remember exactly), but it definitely has a compelling story and makes you want to find out about the characters' past. Also for the most part its really funny

I think Disenchantment is also a good show for Gravity Falls fans to check out. It’s not a perfect show by any means (the pacing in season 4 is kinda a mess) but much like Gravity Falls it does a great job setting up its mysteries and giving out tons of details for fans to analyze. It’s like a weird cross between Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, and Futurama
@LowellLucasJr.2 жыл бұрын
This is a great list( though I believe Alex Hirsch was a consultant more on Inside Job.) Many of these shows I enjoyed and still wanna see more--so yeah! Its definitely got that addictive " I want more!" Vibe!
@sprawlz64662 жыл бұрын
I agree with this list. I think you could add Adventure Time too. It's a bit long, but has a similar feel in the sense that it has likeable main characters in a vast and creative world who basically do whatever they want. And the extensive lore adds a sense of mystery to the show. Also, I'm currently watching an anime called Mushishi and it feels like a combination of Hilda and Made in Abyss. It's very relaxing and episodic, but the world is unindustrialized, full of strange creatures, and gives an occasional sense of danger. I don't see how someone could possibly watch Mushishi and dislike it. It's like a more mature version of Hilda. I also think it's a lot more friendly to anime noobs than something like Made in Abyss lol And maybe Futurama because it feels like a combination of Rick and Morty and The Simpsons. I don't think it has a ton in common with Gravity Falls directly, but it has a lot in common with many other things that do so I think Gravity Falls Fans could find enjoyment in it. And maybe Cowboy Bebop too lol. Since I'm thinking about episodic, mysterious, sci-fi, space adventures, why not throw that one out there as well
@Krossxc2 жыл бұрын
I was considering using this video as an excuse to finally get around to Mushishi because I've seen the promo art and it seems to share the sense of wonder surrounding the main characters 'n stuff. Didn't get around to it cuz I was satisfied with list I had, but it's still on my ptw

I don't know, I would argue that fight club and gravity fall both deal with the doppelganger as a theme, standing together through the end of the world imagery (metaphorical and literally), discovering oneself, and accepting the unsatisfaction and disappointment that comes with life. (I'm obviously Joking) (or I am?)

Personally I don't think The Owl House is thar similar to Gravity Falls and I kind of hate when people especially compare Eda to Stan because they are completely different.
@fancygamer5896 Жыл бұрын
Ye I kinda agree because Eda story and development is about her coming to term with her curse and being the parent figure for king and luz yet still being afraid that she’ll be left behind by them while Stan story is about trying to bring back his brother and growing bonds with Mabel and dipper as well as trying to rebuild his relationship with his brother

I'll recommend to you, (some less certain the others) so check it out Duck Tales (reboot) Gargoyles Scooby Doo Mysteries Inc Star Vs the Forces of Evil Real Ghostbusters Secret Saturdays Johny Quest Adventure Time Star VS Futurerama eerie indiana the adventures of Tintin over the garden wall camp Lakebottom (its listed in the genre but I n ever saw it my self) infinity train Kipo and the age of the wonder beasts those are a lot more borderline then your list and I agree with your list. Inside Job I did try but did not get drawn in. Futurama was better IMO I even like Lower Decks more. Simpsons, quality varies. since there is little continuity it would be best to tell you the best season or best episodes. I think Gravity Falls actually was on the Simpsons but that could be just fan art. if you want a Gravity Falls style Simpsons I would start with Tree House of Horror or Who Shot Mr. Burns?

Ducktales. Everyone should watch Ducktales. People are always really fast to point out similarities between GF and The Owl House but people are sleeping on Ducktales. Twins/triplets hanging out with their eccentric uncle and working behind his back to uncover family secrets, meanwhile combating foes after their uncles business and an assortment of mythical beasts. The shows writing is hilarious and shockingly emotional at times. And the animation is smooth and expressive not just in fight scenes but just the characters everyday life talking to each other.
