Recently I received a question from a lovely lady who's a beginner to jiu jitsu so she wanted some insight on what to wear underneath the gi. So here ya go!

I tried shorts under my Gi and dang I got gnarly rug burn (gi burn? Mat burn?) on my knees! Any tips for that besides go back to leggings? Lol

Ah oh noo! Hmm, that's happened to me if I shaved my legs not too long before going to class lol. Maybe lotion will help!

Is it worth it to find women’s rash guards vs men’s?

I think so! Our bodies are so different, so a women's cut will fit better in my opinion.

How long do rash guards usually last? I’ve been hearing they start stinking after a while and I have such a bad sense of smell so I don’t know if I would tell if they are ready to toss! 😮 I suppose I could always ask my sister to smell them haha

Mine usually last for years! Once they start to smell as soon as I start sweating, that's usually when I know it's time to get rid of them. But before I throw them away, I'll try some deep cleaning tricks and if it doesn't work, then it's time to toss lol. But for me, it takes years for that to happen :)

I found out quickly that I needed to wear something under mi gi pants. I really didn't need the whole dojo to see my underwear and half of my butt mid roll. Leggings always feel like too much, but compression shorts or even just boxer breifs let me just focus on the class and not worry about flashing anyone.

Definitely not free - there’s a gym membership, the gi, no gi gear, etc.
