Also, versatile. A jacket can be rain resistant, wind breaker, with a hood and yet stylish. Add a couple of different scarves to change the look. Thx Kay for all your great recommendations.

Really enjoy your videos and suggestions. One item for travel that I have found extremely helpful is a Pashmina. It has served as a blanket, a pillow, a beautiful scarf, protective from sun, a shawl when out on a night that turns chilly. Lightweight, super easy to pack in your carry on. Especially if you go between hot and cold as our body temperature can do.

I have 2 denim jackets and they are my travel staple, too!! Another helpful tip: when flying, dont wear any kind of poncho/draping type top or jacket. If you have to use the restroom on the plane, you'll be glad you didnt have all that fabric brushing against everything! Ick!!😬

I have always used Chicos travelers outfits to fly internationally. Comfy, comfy. I have an investment cashmere ruana that I also take if the flight is long. I got it at Saks about 20 years ago. It is divine.

My go to for travel is a long dress and slip on shoes. Dresses, especially on an airplane,and, are very comfortable, they don’t bind anywhere and cover everything no matter how you sit. A pashmina is great for a shawl and/or a blanket for a long flight.

I have some Athleta which is great for traveling. Lululemon also has great fabrics. I’m getting on a loooong flight in a few days, so I appreciate these tips. I find that I want real shoes on a flight and probably socks because airplanes can be cold. Some kind of a warm jacket, too.
@janbeasley4251

Thanks Kay, for putting all the requirements into a concise list, these are features that I choose as well. I will only wear closed toe shoes with socks for an airline flight, too often there is cold air near the floor. And even with TSA Pre-Check, you can be required to remove your shoes (though you usually will not have to.) As another person mentioned, avoid wearing lots of metal when going through TSA. For example, a small pendant and small stud earrings do not cause problems, but a large belt buckle will. And I wear or carry a layering piece such as a cardigan or jacket because the temperature can fluctuate.

Just found your channel and have subscribed and been binge watching. For plane travel, and anytime I may need to use a public restroom, I always wear pants that are narrow at the ankle so that there's no chance of them touching the floor when using the bathroom. I'm sure you know how unpleasant those public spaces can get, particularly on a long haul flight.

Great vid, K. One of my criteria is that everything has to be stretchy. High-quality rayon jersey works best for me. I prefer a long, but not too, full dress and blazer/cardigan in these materials, then I put knee-high socks on, if necessary.

Definitely check out the commuter pants at Athleta. They can be a bit pricey but they generally have some colors marked down. And really I find them worth the investment. They’re versatile so the price per wear is reasonable. I recently bought these and LOVE THEM: shopstyle.it/l/bl1Lk

For international travel I avoid metal zips, buttons and jewellery so I don't get stopped at the metal detector arch. If you can avoid under wired bras too as they can set the machine off and require a pat down or search.

Thank you for listing the 13 features that we should consider when travelling. With regard to the outfits, I would only add that IMHO flip-flops are not great for travelling. On an airplane, your feet will be cold, and God forbid you need to evacuate the plane in a hurry as there is no support or protection for your toes. On a train, if you're trying to lift your heavy luggage onto the train and then into the luggage rack, your toes may not thank you! Tuck the flip-flops into your luggage for wearing in a shower or on the beach; a sneaker or slip-on e.g. Tom's would be a better choice, I think. Natural fabrics are better too (except maybe silk, as it doesn't take kindly to perspiration). Might I also suggest a large scarf/wrap as a light layer? Those planes and trains can be pretty chilly, or you might have a seat next to an air-conditioning vent and be in a breeze (I speak from experience!)

Word of caution on zipper and other metal on travel clothes. They'll have to wand you. I wore cargo pants once and it was way too much hassle. I go jewelry and metal free thru TSA now so it's easier and you can put jewelry on while on the plane if you want to. I almost left behind a very expensive necklace once because they made me take it off! You want to go through with nothing causing a beep. lol

These things are definitely pricy. But when you want comfort, you've got it. These look put together and fashionable and comfortable for travel. I am planning a long extended trip to England in September so the weather is all over the place. I've worn heavier coats in June. The air plane sometimes gets really cold on those trips. Last summer I wore a little poly outfit that was comfortable and I froze. You have to be able to layer and take off those layers and carry them when you need to. Just getting into a car and going somewhere is much more predictable. But oh the ease of knowing you have clothing with all those functions and having experience to back you up. Whatever you choose to wear whether it is pick and choose from a thrift store takes time and effort so you need to start looking long before the big trip.

I'm a little late to the channel, but here I am! I invested in a fuzz buster/fabric shaver. I too have had issues with finding the perfect slip-on pants. Most made me look or feel like Steve Urkel!😂 I came across a pair of Anne Klein pull ons in burgundy (my favorite color no matter what season!) and black that have a beautiful light compression yet not a skinny/stick against my leg type of slip on pant where I'm needing to "pour" myself into nor "peel" myself out of! I can cuff the bottom up twice for a capri type look as well or wear it down to my ankle where it has an ankle slit. I also came across Worthington petite. I believe I found these at a thrift store. I found a pair of black, taupe, and Navy. I was in heaven! Only issue was pilling (little balls of materials caused by friction like between the legs or when a bag consistently rubs against an area like on your side or under your armpit). I saw another woman who took it off the rack and when she put it back it was because of the pilling. I almost felt like a stalker! (Slowly pushing my buggy...peeping through the other side of the rack...darting my eyes away when she looked up. Just call me the GoodWill grabber😂) I bought everything for under $5 a pair (LOVING that Sr. Goodwill discount Wednesdays..check for yours 😉), took it home, laundered in cold water, dried on light and then took my handy-dandy fuzz buster and went to work. This has been one of the best $10 investments I've ever made! After nine years, it's still going strong. I have rescued many a sweater, pants, etc with it. It's so refreshing to see more ideas to help me continue to look pulled together on a daily basis. I remember being teased incessantly in high school for accessorizing! Van in my 20s (early 90s), I was again teased for 'always matching'😮) REALLY?!? Now, in my mid-50s, I am often mistaken for an administrator at the elementary School I work at. Casual Fridays for me do not include wearing jeans at all. Maybe a low wedge w a light pant or a pair of capris w the open button up spirit wear top over a pretty top but never the t shirt we get every year. I only wear that t-shirt during pre-planning on the one day we take the staff picture then I change it right after. In an age where it seems to be more and more "dress however. I don't care what people think. I've got to be me" I just see it as a sign of respect for myself, for my family, and for others to look like I have not just rolled out of bed. It could be as simple as a well-fitted pair of pull-on pants, a solid top, and an open blouse on a daily basis. It does not take a lot of effort to decide not to wear pajama pants and house slippers everywhere. Thanks for your channel. ~Enjoy your day!

You must have been channelling into the future because I was doing your tips in 2017 through to Oct2019. I started traveling from GA back home to NY to care for my dad during all seasons for the two years every three months. So that meant going from 70° to low 30° sometimes during a season. I used packing cubes and was able to pack for 2 weeks in one suitcase. I had to make sure I could use items two or three times bcause the washing machine might not be able to use if the temp was too low (pipes could burst). I love the tips as well. The polystretch travel pants are GREAT! I found mine at a consignment shop😊 These are great for road trips. I have a reversible tote from Espirit. I've had it for over 40 years! Got it when I was 13 (1983) on a Saturday outing w mom. I've washed it and it still has NO snags or scuffs on the bottom and it literally holds so much and it such a small package😊 I've also found a friend in Poshmark

Everything looked great, especially the loose-cut black pants. I'll adapt for my size and shape; I could not wear the fitted tops. Unfortunately, that Athleta blazer is just not flattering. The concept is good, but the fit is dreadful. Another jacket, perhaps a looser, straight cut that had pockets (or would fit over a waist security belt under your outfit) would be more adaptable and flattering. I look for Eileen Fisher silk pieces that I get on sale or on resale sites. The silk jersey tops come in good colors and are great for summer and winter, to layer with loose tops, jackets or sweaters over them. And there are several styles of black silk pants.The silk pieces roll up very small, and they handwash and dry very quickly. I've traveled rough and wash everything in the shower, after soaping/rinsing myself, using shampoo for laundry soap. I cannot get by without the multi-purpose shawl the previous writer commented on. Light merino wool sweaters are great for layering over silk tops for warmth when needed, and they can be worn several times without washing. Thanks for your videos.

I always carry a sarong or pareo. I like items that multi task. To keep you warm as a wrap, tie as a skirt, around the neck or around the bathing suit. I can get away with only one very small carryon that fits under the seat. I wash as I go. The problem is shoes, they are so bulky.

Totally aside from yet another marvelous video, Kay... My mother has that same blue/white patterned planter and she also has an African violet in it! :) Travelling can be stressful at times so we certainly _don't_ need our clothes to be "rubbing us the wrong way!" _Lol!_ Comfort and durability are definitely key. Also a jacket. Depending on where you live and where you are ending up (ie, I live in Ontario, Canada and our temps are much lower in the winter than a destination like Florida), planning for flight clothes needs to include layers! :) Something to _never_ travel in: a jumpsuit!!! Keep it for the destination, but forget it for the travel time... think bathroom breaks... ACK! :) Thank you again, Kay, for your great tips! Blessings, Shannon.

LONG FLIGHTS ---- wear socks so you can take shoes off in plane; a wrap and sunglasses are nice for sleeping. QUICK DRY ---- essential for recovering from getting caught in the rain; quick-dry fabrics are more lightweight to pack and carry; I always pack one polyester crepe skirt;. SCARVES ---- can dramatically change up the same solid tops and bottoms when luggage weight and space is limited on a long trip. BLEND IN ---- don't wear white sneakers and blue jeans if you don't want to stick out like a stereotypical American.

Clothing labeled as “travel wear” is always polyester. Polyester makes me sweat. I much prefer natural fibres. I love pockets and it’s so hard to find women’s clothing with decent pockets. Suggestions?
@sonyalynn4794
@sonyalynn4794 3 жыл бұрын
I do not like clothes with many pockets, it adds bulk and then searching to find where you left items. I prefer a good body bag or low hanging bag for across the body for all my essentials. One place in the bag, then I can grab and go.

Since you asked, hate all the polyester. Super hard to find women's clothes that are even 90% natural fibers. I buy mens clothes and put in pleats or something to make then more female friendly. Even new menswear is mostly natural fibers, not polyester or viscose. I have a pair of mens100% cotton corduroy pants for about that look better than anything under $110 in the US. Mens white shirts are really still no wrinkle and heavier cotton than under a $80 women's shirt.

I don't know your size, but Roaman's and Woman within have 100% cotton knits in many colors. Some of the pants have pockets and some don't, so make sure to read the descriptions. I have several matching sets of pants and tops. Btw, they also have skirts to match, too.

I don’t travel in a white shirt, ever. Too much potential for me to slop something on myself. I NEVER wear flip flops/ sandals without back straps when I fly. Two of our friends are aircraft accident investigators and they stress that if there is ever an emergency and you need to evacuate an aircraft you need shoes that stay securely on your feet (no high heels either).

After saying you preferred dark colors to hide stains, you wore an awful lot of white tops! Once, on a day trip, I had to turn a white shirt around after eating a bowl of spicy noodles. When I was done, the front of my shirt was completely splattered!

I don’t think you need a blazer for August Asia travel, may be a linen or cotton blazer cos it’s sweltering hot there. Sometimes it rains dogs and cats there, a pair of water proof sandals work right on.
