Jack Stephen, no joke. I’m 16 and when I was 15 I wanted a truck for my first car and God made it happen after some prayer, we found a good deal at an estate sale and bought the truck for a steal, got it running w 2 fresh batteries. All new sensors, new starter and flywheel and away it goes. I wasn’t expecting a 7.3 but life’s crazy but I love the truck it handles like a beast. But it’s a bare to park, but I just park in the back so no biggy. But it gets great mpg like probably 15 after the fuel additives. I really love the truck, I say that every day I drive it. It fits my needs because I’m always needing to pull stuff, and haul sh#t. If I sold it I would probably by a good 12v. Or 24v 5.9 Cummins diesel. I’m a diesel guy because of the engine lifespan. But the new stuff if overpriced crap thanks to the epa and all these environmental requirements.

I have no bias towards a truck brand, but 95% of what I saw in this video were Fords or Dodges. Might have seen one GMC in motion & a Chevy. But looks like 95% of the trucks (that ranchers buy) in the lot are either Fords or Dodges. Of which I ask, GM is #2 in the truck market according to sales. But I suppose when it comes to super duty, they lag far behind. My conclusion (based on this video) is GM owns more of consumer truck sales while "business sales" go to Ford & Dodge.

Tully3674 what you fail to realize is, most of these people are still using trucks from way back when. Which isnt a bad thing, if it aint broke dont fix it. To make your statement valid, you would have only take into consideration 2014 or newer trucks or recently purchased new trucks.

They do....except the "base" models now have power windows and locks and other features AND more importantly the pricing on them is insane. Try building a Ford F-250 4x4 on the website for under $30,000. Heck, you probably can't do it for under $40,000. The Ford Powerstroke highlighted in this video was under $20,000 when brand new. My first truck was a 1992 F-150 which was $12,000 new. Even with inflation, today's trucks are far more expensive.

@VARITHMS6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Mendoza I wouldn't use it as a daily driver. When towing trailers like this the mpg isn't much different from a pickup. An oil change is 250.00 and can go 18,000-20,000 miles. Most of these guys probably already have a CDL. If I can get a CLD anyone can. Save the money buy a big truck and use a smaller truck for daily stuff.
@andrewmendoza15786 жыл бұрын
Jay Smith tires, breaks, etc everything on those trucks is more expensive. You buy one of these duallys and they do everything more comfortably with ease. Also you wouldn’t have to have two trucks for towing and daily driving
@VARITHMS6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Mendoza I have a Corolla for daily, a old dodge for little stuff and a Kenworth for big stuff. Drums, shoes, and s-cam kit for 900.00. Those last 250+300k miles. Tires are used Goodyears for 250.00. The oil change is 250.00 and last 18,000 miles. Including filters and lube. Small loads at 30k lbs it will get 8-9 mpg.

Tommy Truth that's the biggest load of crap I've heard in awhile. On our ranch we use Ram Cummins diesel trucks and Chevy Vortec or Duramax diesels only. The only reason we use those because we know we can trust them. I lived on a 4500 acre ranch. We don't have time for a truck to be breaking down (cough cough Powerstroke). So no we don't use whatever's convenient for us to find, we use only the best out there. You shouldn't speak for others especially if you never lived on or own a Ranch. Only speak for yourself.

Best thing about a Dodge is what they don't make. That Cummins will last, the rest of the truck probably fell apart on the way home.

Now that was a good video. I think this also settle the issue. The working man, the guys who use their trucks hard and use them frequently in the ways for which they were originally intended, are far and away Dodge/Ram people, with a healthy loyalty to Ford as well.
@derekboberg97667 жыл бұрын
Its interesting you say that. Coming from a ranching back ground I've noticed that Dodge/Ram has that market in there grasp (I drive a Cummins as well). But while I was in college I worked construction and interestingly enough Ford seems to be the preferred truck in that industry.

Interesting. I wonder if location plays a part in it.

Almost every big fleet in Florida uses Ford, either commercial or small pickups

Interesting. Keep in mind though, Florida is as flat as a table. No need for hill climbing power there.
@seanweaver86257 жыл бұрын
Ford is the go to in construction it seems, but there are a healthy amount of Chevy 2500s for trades like roofing, since the Chevies have a lower center of gravity and thus handle better with ladder tracks and other top heavy racks/equipment

+1. .. While the focus was on the Big 3 domestic truck brands. .. Was there any OTR (over the road) trucks? .. Maybe older in life, OTR trucks that have been single axle'd? .. Say an older Volvo, Freightliner, Kenworth etc. .. These are 1 million mile trucks, a mileage an F-550 could never approach. .. Just a thought. .. Great video review TFL crew.....

In usa they sold almost 200000 f series in 2017. Why don't they have f series there?
@MA9494AM7 жыл бұрын
Has been talked about it according to a dealer but the market for pick-ups here is very limited, they do not want to pull away the legs for the Ranger. People buy estates / wagons and vans instead, there is a reason Volvo did not produce any pickups on their own after the L340. 55 390 LCV (light commercial vehicle, under 3500kg / 7716lbs) of which 10 116 where pick-ups in 2017

I know it is anecdotal, but here in NE rural Scottsdale where there are a ton of properties that have horses and the large trailers, and no pavement, Cummins RAMS, then SuperDuties and a distant third is GM's. I think much of it has to do with the solid front axles on the FCA and Fords. I know the washboards tore my Dmax frontend apart.
@jessehernandez50437 жыл бұрын
That doesnt make sense. IFS is superior to SFA in every way except articulation and not everyone is twisting their truck to those extremes. On washboard IFS would independently handle every rib whereas SFA would be influenced by the other wheel for everything
@donleamon86537 жыл бұрын
Way more parts to wear out, boots to tear, not to mention simplicity of service. Nope, I live it every day, 3k a year of dirt and washboard, and a SFA way outlasts a IFS. As far as ride, a SuperDuty or HD RAM is just as comfortable. Buy what you want for cruising the malls.
@jessehernandez50437 жыл бұрын
Don Leamon lol cruising the malls. Shouldve known that was coming from an Arizonian. All the same. If ifs was so superior you would see them on trophy trucks, but you dont because they are only good for rock crawling and articulation, not for soaking up uneven terrain at speed. Keep drinking the kool aid
@donleamon86537 жыл бұрын
No, you're totally correct for desert racing. But I'm talking 100-200k miles of day in, day out dirt driving and towing heavy. Not one race and then it is torn apart. There is no Kool-aid to drink when you have experience. Where you at Jesse and what do you drive out of curiosity? BTW, the closest mall to me is over an hour away, I think! ;-)
@jessehernandez50437 жыл бұрын
Don Leamon used to drive an 04 Sierra 2500 6.0 gasser. I live in san diego and used to take it to Glamis all the time, as well as all over baja. Took it to pismo a few times to show ford owners how to drive lol, while your SFAs are damn near getting death wobble on these basic dunes and washboards, im flying through it like i stole it! Anyways sold my toybox and decided to not keep the HD, driving my secondary vehicle in the meantime 02 S10, until i figure out what i want next. Hoping the new 3.0 duramax impresses me.

@@StinkyPete69 You can build any transmission to be good lol. That doesn't change the fact that Allison makes fantastic transmissions. I gotta believe the 6.0L cost Ford a lot of the market, 6.4 didn't help. They may come back for the 6.7 but it just isn't a Cummins.

+gogriz91 Finding a 6.0 or 6.4 at the cattle yards is like finding a needle in a hay stack. still see a fair number of 7.3 But most of the Fords have the 6.7

gogriz91, 6.7 powerstroke might not be a Cummins but it's a damn good engine and the entire truck is made by ford, dodge can't say that.
