Wonderful Video Presentation as always Mr. Anderson! Please encourage your people to add Sweatshirts and Hoodies with FlowHive logos on them to your website offerings so we can all show our support in cottony comfort! Loved the rainstorm - however, where I live, we have the highest water/rain situation since the mid 80's the bees are stuck in their hives. I absolutely agree about the foundationless frames, though I have placed the one piece food grade frames between them to help keep the bees going straight. I'm very glad that you mentioned the issue with commercial "wax" foundation being heavily tainted with agricultural pesticides and other undesirable residues and that's why I avoid that. It's a pure joy to be able to see what's going on at the opposite side of our planet. What a great time we are living in :)

It’s always exciting to see how everyone from around the planet cares for bees. Such a wealth of information and beekeepers are always willing to share. What an incredible planet we would have if everyone thought like beekeepers. 😍

Frederick Dunn that’s cool brother, I can’t bring my self to own one 😢a family friend was given one for Christmas and after a few unsuccessful attempts to super with the flow frames he gave up and gave it to another beek to try. I love the idea and all the enginerding behind the flow hive it’s just not my cup of tea. Take it easy Fred

I'm in eastern New Mexico and the beekeepers around here often use two brood boxes. Is it not true that a second brood box will give the queen the ability to make a bigger colony and therefor able to fill the flow super faster once it is put on?
@TH-cl5be3 жыл бұрын
so if you are adding a new brood box would you all ways add the new box to the bottom of hive.?
@FlowHive3 жыл бұрын
Hi John, bees rarely build downwards so if we were adding another brood box we would add it above the existing one and below the super - Sam

Hello Im new to bee keeping I have a 10 frame 16''x20''x9 5/8 deep box and a 16''x20''x6 5/8 medium box. Could you please tell me what size frames I should buy?
@FlowHive4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gea, are you wondering what size brood frames you need or what Flow Frames as a Super are compatible with your existing Brood Boxes? - Sam
@Parian1015 жыл бұрын
I started the beekeeping with plastic foundation and now gradually moving into foundation-less frames, I would still use both. I found that the bees generally draw up more drone comb with the foundation-less frames. When I would not place two foundation-less frame beside each other unless they are drawn, this is due to avoid cross comb building.

So by my understanding there is a lot of checker boarding, is it a bad idea to have a natural comb, plastic, natural and keep that pattern? Namely to help them stay straight? As well are you supposed to have that much of a gap on either side of the frames, won’t the bees use that space? Interestingly enough I’ve discovered my 8 frame box can technically take nine, now this is my first time keeping bees but should I or should I not add a ninth frame?
@BESHYSBEES5 жыл бұрын
As a new beek you should look up bee space, without knowing the exact dimensions of your hive body it’s hard to know if you will have enough bee space, I’d say use a ninth frame until the frames are drawn out then spread the eight, the benefit is you can get the comb drawn out past the timber and makes it easier to uncap

I have burnt out the inside of my new hive using a gas torch and I have blackened a few frames with this method, is this bad or do the bees like the charcoal effect? I thought the toughened wood on the frames might also resist wax moth after being slightly burnt?
@FrederickDunn5 жыл бұрын
There was a study done on that and they determined that scorching or burning hive interior surfaces was actually detrimental to honeybee health. IF I can find the link, I'll share that. Maybe the Flow-Folks have opinions on that also?
