I'm going through the most popular two versions of hot tubs, the portable unit, and the fixed unit, outlining some of the advantages and disadvantages of each.
I'll also take you through some easy tips to help you save money on the running of your hot tub, including a super simple way to be able to run your hot tub with ZERO electricity costs, without you having to spend or invest on anything additional in your home.
I reference a few products during the video, which can be found at the following links. These are affiliate links so, while they don't cost you any more, I do get a small reward for recommending you.
Chemical starter kit for hot tub: amzn.to/3kGMVg5
5Kg Chlorine granules: amzn.to/3x2nlEB
Foam Remover: amzn.to/3hZlaO9
Lay-Z-Spa floor protector: amzn.to/3rqxbPH
Also, here is my Octopus referral link, which I would be thrilled for you to use to make each of us £50 and save you money on the cost of running your hot tub:
share.octopus.energy/red-foal...
Remember, Octopus offers an array of tariffs, not just the GO tariff, and are multiple award-winning suppliers who only provide green energy, derived from sustainable sources, such as solar, hydro, or wind.
Thanks so much for your support and please don't forget to subscribe and keep an eye out for my future videos on the channel. You can even make suggestions, if you like, and I'll see what I can do!

is the Octupus Go tarrif covered by Ofgems government capped tariff ?
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews 2 жыл бұрын
It's a good question, but I would assume so. I guess I will find out in August, when our contract expires. Although, I suspect we will move to the Tesla tariff at that point.

if I was to buy a hot tub without the smart functionality, is there a way to still control when the heater runs by attaching a Smart Control to it somehow?
@PaulsViewsReviews

Hi. I have not researched it, but your challenge would be finding a timer that can handle the kind of power that a hot tub requires, as a simple plug in timer would likely not suffice. If you can find one then you ought to be fine, I would suggest.

So how did changing to octopus energy go?
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews Жыл бұрын
It was great - quick and smooth with huge savings. We’ve now moved over from Go to the Tesla Energy Plan (as we have a Tesla Powerwall), which gives us a fixed rate 24/7, though we still try and keep the majority of our consumption to the off peak hours just to keep the pressure on the grid to a minimum. It’s costing a little more than before but our Go contract expired and the new Go rates are quite a bit higher. The Tesla rates are 10.9p per KWH for us, both import and export (solar power).

Are you able to use a water boiler then just tip it in the hot tub?
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews 18 күн бұрын
I’m not sure, as the tub would generally heat up to around 38/40’c so anything hotter might damage the components which are simply never meant to go any hotter than this. I would not recommend this.

It really is a very costly luxury with present energy costs Ours is currently turned off as it would use far more electricity during winter months.

I don’t blame you. Power is so expensive at the moment that I think you need to make very frequent use of a hot tub right now to justify the outlay.

It's called the Caribbean. Sadly, the company who sold it to us has recently gone out of business. I found an old video showing it on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpjRpH6EgM-po7M

There is definitely a huge element of making sure you choose the right electricity tariff when running a hot tub, but I hope the rest of the content is useful to people, too. Thanks for watching.

You’re draining every couple months?? Sounds excessive

That’s the recommendation from the manufacturer. How often do you drain and replace?
@July-A7

Every couple of months? It's gross. Drain it after each use. Don't use chemicals at all. It'll cost you in water and heating but you'll have clean water every time.

Do NOT let water cool and re-heat. WORST advice! Buy a foam insulated hot tub and keep the temp the same all year round
@PaulsViewsReviews
@PaulsViewsReviews Жыл бұрын
...but only if you're going to use it regularly, all year round. If you are a regular user, jumping in every day or two, then I agree with you. We, however, use it once every week or even two. The integrated operating programmes of our hot tub control the temperature based on how often we tell it we will use it and it varies the temperature to save power while still keeping it relatively warm but not up to 'full' heat until needed. Pointless spending money each day to maintain full temperature when you're not in it. Makes more sense to heat it up for longer but only on the run up to the days you need it.
