Ahoj Lucka and Anicka, any chance you two could possibly make a video about Czech literature and the books that Czechs read? I'm familiar with the works of Kundera and I've heard of Capek too, don't know much more than that though, what do you both read? You lot could even make a video about the ideal weekend of the Czechs! On that note, I hope you both have a nice weekend!

As a cinephile who loves to explore films from all over the world, I have to admit that Czech films are fascinating (especially those from Czech New Wave, which is a bit overlooked when compared to Nouvelle Vague of the French cinema). Here are my top 10 Czech films of all time 1. Ucho (completed in 1970, released in 1989, dir: Karel Kachyňa) 2. Spiklenci slasti (1996, dir: Jan Švankmajer) 3. Sedmikrásky (1966, dir: Věra Chytilová) 4. Lásky jedné plavovlásky (1965, dir: Miloš Forman) 5. Marketa Lazarová (1967, dir: František Vláčil) 6. Žert (1969, dir: Jaromil Jireš) 7. Intimní osvětlení (1965, dir: Ivan Passer) 8. Démanty noci (1964, dir: Jan Němec) 9. Nabarvené ptáče (2019, dir: Václav Marhoul, though the dialogue is mainly in interslavic instead of Czech) 10. Ostře sledované vlaky (1966, dir: Jiří Menzel) Honourable mentions: Happy End (1966, dir: Oldřich Lipský), Adéla ještě nevečeřela (1977, dir: Oldřich Lipský), Spalovač mrtvol (1969, dir: Juraj Herz), Panna a netvor (1978, dir: Juraj Herz), Ikarie XB 1 (1963, dir: Jindřich Polák), Kladivo na čarodějnice (1970, dir: Otakar Vávra), Valerie a týden divů (1970, dir: Jaromil Jireš)

Miluju české filmy! Unfortunately I can't find many with English subtitles in Canada. Whenever we go back to Czech we get to watch them with my husbands grandma who speaks no English and we get to laugh together :) krásně.

Diky Lucka and Anicka (apologies for the lack of accents again) Really appreciate that you lot had a look at my comment and then actually made a video about it too (Czechs are amongst the nicest people in the world, you two are nicer than nice though haha) Any chance you could do a video about Czech cuisine and the favourite cuisines of the Czechs? I'd really appreciate that, and I'll definitely try to watch a few of these movies, Czech cinema really needs more recognition I reckon, I've watched a few Czech movies and they're definitely a lot better than most Hollywood films - By the way, do you two have a favourite Czech film? My personal favourite most certainly is 'Spindl'

Can Polish and Czech understand each other ?
@josefvavra6854
@josefvavra6854 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how is one able to "decipher" strange sounding but nonetheles similar words. For example if you grew up in northern region of Czech rep. (i.e. closer to the polish borders) you would be quite accustomed to understand it at about 70-85%. The Praguers and central or southener living Czech can understand approx. 40-50% of polish when they hear it for some time (ten minutes at least), but for the first hearing it would be (I guess) about 20-30%. The czech and polish language are relatively close to each other in vocabulary, but their pronounciation is a bit different so one has to get accustomed to their sound and different rhytm of speech.

For me it is not a problem. I am Polish and I can almost all understand. I was born to Czech and Slovak border and since my childchood I watched Czech or Slovak TV.
@Pidalin

Not without at least basic experiences with that language. Sometimes you think that you understand, but it means something completely different, but without at least little practice, you can understand almost everything. As Josed said, it's about beying able to decipher it, when you know that where Czech has T or Ť, Polish has ć and such things, you can understand it much easier.

I would love to watch the Zátopek-movie. I was hoping it would come to my local cinema here in Tromsø, Norway, but I am still waiting. Tři oříšky pro Popelku is a Christmas classic on Norwegian TV, but it is narrated by a Norwegian actor. However you can here Czech being spoken in the background, and I have watched the film in Czech om KZbin. That was very nice.

Unfortunately, for many people "foreign movies" and "movies in English" is the same thing. People forget about the rest of the world because the American movie/TV industry is so dominant.
@Pidalin
@Pidalin 2 жыл бұрын
@@jackfordon7735 There is plenty of non American/British movies which people watch, like French or Italian commedy movies, German crimi series and fairytales, cartoons from other former communist countries and many of "American" movies or TV series is actually from Canada.

Great video! 👍 I really enjoyed the topic and all the movie recommendations that the people gave. I look forward to watching them. Ironically, the very Czech films that I've been watching are fairytales 😊. Tři oříšky pro Popelku, the one that Lucka recommends, is one of my favorites and is a unique version of Cinderella. The Salt Prince (1983) has a great story and Princezna ze mlejna is very lovable, sweet, quirky, and funny with lots of pantomime that really helps (I think) in learning the Czech language. (I was able to watch Princezna ze mlejna 2 without any subtitles and still able to follow and enjoy the plot and story while also picking up on Czech phrases, words, and their meaning.) Děkuji for the recommendations and advice! (They've really helped me feel like I'm on the right track.)

Prasátko Peppa might also be a good suggestion for beginners, since it is aimed at children and so tends to be simpler. And there is an official channel for it on KZbin where you can watch episodes, so very accesible.
