@@sailorarwen6101 Hard to work on something like that when each mechanism he explains must be thoroughly explained to actually get across his point since so many different drivers and movements are involved to explain the scenario and reactions of the body. Medical terminology is much different in the aspect you just wouldn't use elongated words for example you wouldn't always tell someone the posterior side of your glenohumoral join is injured, you would simple say the back of your shoulder for most. I know i jumped from more medical to anatomical, but you get the idea - in the fitness and health breakdown world you cant really simplify the words.

Makes perfect sense. You can do heavy (ie. workouts for strength, not hypertrophy) while in ketosis because you're using the creatine system. You may not gain much size, but you'll gain both strength and lose fat simultaneously. Then, once you've lost enough fat, you can add more carbs back in and train in the 8-12 rep range for size, gain a little fat, and then switch back to strength/ketosis to lose it again.

Ok, so lost me a bit there. Major takeaway though (and I think this is true for most people) is if your goal is a body recomp (losing body fat) then keep your workouts short 30MIN and ramp up the intensity. But if your goal is strength or muscle gain keep your reps low like 3-4? I'm just starting keto/IF this week with my wife and we want to approach our workouts intelligently. Anyone (thomas I hope you see this) have some feedback/help for me?

Never heard it explained that well before. Makes perfect sense! CP energy system for power/size in the 4 or less rep range, while Ketone energy system in the 10-12+ range. All the while sparring glycogen for remembering how to workout...lol Makes a decent argument for HIIT training while in ketosis as well.

The best time periods to do work and summary 4X HIIT sessions for a maximum of 30min or run at least 4K, cardio is more steady state so try to increase range 2X Anaerobic/Weightlifting for a maximum of 30min, so for 2 days Use the one spare day as a rest period, to recover all ur muscles Eat low carbs and avoid sugar/starch, keep it to a minimum Ketones are more present in aerobic training that’s why it’s important to do more sessions rather than doing more anaerobic training One final tip, avoid doing aerobic and anaerobic activity on the same day I Hope I helped 👍

April 1st I will do a 30 day...intense weight workout followed by a 20 min intense cardio...we will see what happens...I am excited!!!
@Flowmada6 жыл бұрын
Hey Kim. Monkey has great advice. That said, HIIT is recommended because it pretty much produces the most amount of energy in the shortest amount of time and the rest allows your creatine phosphate system to recharge and aid your performance. With the excess demands your body must make up for the lack of oxygen during HIIT, which results in oxygen slowly binding with the molecules in the body that Thomas was talking about. The result is pulling excess glucose in the body, which results in less insulin in the body, which results in weight loss. In terms of it being good for a keto diet, keto is primarily an aerobic benefit which preserves glucose energy for dire need by the body (HIIT and brain). Monkey is a living example of optimizing this. Lift in the sub 8 area for 30 minutes using compound lifts. Then do cardio when your body has burnt up its glucose stores and is releasing fatty acids into the blood for aerobic utilization. This is the most successful model for exercising for weight loss given you maintain consistency and form it into a daily habit. Good luck to you

No, it is not as simple as calories in calories out. The type of calorie matters. Fructose is only metabolized in the liver, and it's stored as fat pretty much immediately. That why you can work your butt off in the gym and see no results to your fat levels. There are studies where people eat the same caloric intake, but one group has fructose and the other does not. Guess which group faired better?

This was such good timing - I am on day 13 of keto, and today was my first day back in the gym in 4 years. I was wondering exactly about this topic. I know you did a few videos to do with carb loading pre-work out for that boost in energy, but since I'm so new to keto I'm really hesitant to introduce carbs into my system as I am unsure if I'm even in keto yet and don't want to screw it up. I want to lose my visceral fat and build some muscle, but I'm not sure how to balance it at this stage without compromising my keto journey.

nick kushnir a good hack is to use "karo" light corn oil pre workout it will fill glycogen stores in the muscles and not the liver which will effect ketone production a lot less. That being said I would only use a little and ONLY on leg days ;-)~
@orangebanana71296 жыл бұрын
alex fernandez thanks for the tip! Definitely gonna look into it! But why just on leg days??
@alexfernandez80836 жыл бұрын
nick kushnir It's most peoples hardest workout day is legs(squats/deadlifts) If ur just gonna do cardio(except HITT) or chest/arms I wouldn't use karo just use MCT oil if anything at all

Maybe you should wait 3-4 weeks in order to be sure you are in Leticia, and then add one carb meal every week or ten days, or 30-40 Grs of carbs pwo

I have been tracking ketones all day today and was sitting at 1.8all afternoon, then did 6 500m intervals on the rower at around 1:56splits with 2 mins easy rowing between each. Took a break for 30 mins, retested and am at 0.2

"I rotate out heavy lifts, and I start going higher reps" Do you do that in the same workout like benching heavy and using high-rep acessories or you split into different workouts (one heavy workout, one high rep workout) ?

So do I have to become a doctor or scientist to do this diet????? Cause these words are waaaaaaayyyy over my head. I’ve been on Keto since January and have really just been winging it with results which is awesome, I’m just hoping to understand it a little better. I will keep researching. 😁

Always over complicating things... You now have people thinking they're somehow screwing up when in reality they were doing just fine and feeling great doing it. Confusion levels went up and doubt set in. Just keep it simple, people. If you're feeling great when you wake up and you can't wait to get to the gym, you're doing fantastic. Keep up the good work.

Holy cow, I am so confused. He might as well have been speaking Chinese. The title of the video is "What type of workout is best on a low carb or ketogenic diet?" The answer should be one sentence. 9 minutes later, I have no idea what the answer is.

He mentioned it quite clearly. Aerobic cardio makes sure ketones can be used by the mitochondria and it burns much cleaner than sugar. The latter is less oxidants. Thus Aerobic cardio is the answer.

So strange, that’s exactly how I lift while on IF and KETO. I lift HEAVY 4-6 reps, then do a couple lower-weight sets at 12-20 until failure. My workouts are still 1-1-.5 hours long though. Because I do 3 sets of 8 exercises on a classic split. While straight bulking I lift completely differently. I still don’t see the point in making the workout super short...the timing of the workout doesn’t necessarily correspond to the intensity, or volume. For me, a 30 minute workout sounds EXTREMELY SHORT. but I’m going to switch to that and do more cardio and see what happens for fat loss. I’ll have incorporate more cardio (which I hate.) IF + KETO + 2 days of DRY fasting per week (maybe on the weekend). I would think I’ll lose a lot of fat fast. (Pun intended).

Didn't completely lose me, but for my own clarification.. As far as working out for fat loss, while on keto and IF, it's better to go lower intensity? I.e. Moderate walking speed on a treadmill?
@savage_Sloth906 жыл бұрын
torosax lower intensity I think somewhere like a light jog. I think I've seen it describe as where you can still talk and hold a conversation. If I recall 4 mph is a good speed it's like a real brisk walk or light jog
@niamhf59786 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand what counts as 'lower intensity' or 'moderate intensity' for you depends on your fitness level, so knowing the target heart rate ranges for your age and using a heart rate tracker will be more accurate than a description of the movement. I knew someone in serious illness recovery who was in 'high intensity' for their age (180BPM) slowly climbing on the step machine, clearly that wouldn't be the same for someone with a different background level of fitness. As for what the video advises I will have to watch it again to be sure...

Thomas, with regards to fasting, should you do 24hr fasts continuously or does that simply a caloric restricted diet? Also, on eating days, how many meals should you consume? I know you advocate 24-48 hr fasts once a week and longer ones quarterly. Im confused as to what to do on eating days.
@igorscherer21916 жыл бұрын
Kim Alexander what usually people do is to establish an eating window, say 6 hours, not mattering how many meals. I started with 20h fasting 4h eating but now I'm on 18h 6h.. seems very manageable. Just watch all his videos on the topic and you'll understand. Cheers.
