What Types of Engines are the Mid Sodor’s Albert, Jim and Tim?

The Mid Sodor Railway had three engines called Albert, Jim and Tim, Created by the Reverend Awdry using Gem Vari-kits, which are freelance designs. Or are they? Today we will try and find out the basises of these three engines.

In my headcannon I went with the Mk2 Albert, making him Falcon's brother. Originally, he was supposed to be the number 3, but due to a builder's error, he didn't arrive until the year after Falcon and Stuart, making him the number 5. As for Jim and Tim, they were custom built 0-6-0Ts built for the Arlesdale Tramway at Arlesburgh in 1885.

It is a really cool railway, and I’m delighted to see it’s being revived. I just personally don’t f with the design of their Beyer Peacock engines, especially the ones with open cabs

Must admit I'm unfamiliar with the Mid Sodor line, either books or layout, but the latter looks a very nice little model. The Peco 'varikit' didn't really have any prototypes as such (Two of their other kits were almost Emett tributes!) but the coal bunkers atop the firebox were referred to, in their old Railway Modeller review as the Clogher Valley 'type'. (And, personally, I like the GVT engines - blame the Board of Trade for their appearance!) I'd have to respectfully disagree with the folk who thought one of the trio looks like a Corpet Louvet; I've built several models of their engines, and they are very characteristically French, while the Awdry model is equally English in looks. There were some very 'interesting' engines, particularly from the smaller French foundries, and one or two of them resembled the Awdry models. Don't forget that, although the foundries had 'standard' designs for small industrial engines, they could and did vary quite a lot in appearance within the same classes, to suit customer's requirements. Some, even were literally one of a kind designs. When Rev Awdry was building this layout OO9 was in its veritable infancy, and the simple fact most of us got it to run was enough, never mind look like a real locomotive!

And yet people speak of thomas in an condescending way, that "it's just a kids show" and "you shouldn't join thomas with railway enthusiasm". this video is a great example that these people are wrong.
