I completely agree with you're point on accessibility. Having been nominated to a UWC myself after selections, I unfortunately could not attend this year because of funding (perhaps I'll go next year). It's so unfortunate that NC's have to make the tough decision of not allowing talented and motivated students such a great opportunity to better their communities because of limited funding. I guess the socio-economic position of countries (which propagates these funding issues) is a huge problem that UWC itself cannot fully change. I really hope to volunteer with the NC soon to help address funding inequalities!

This was really interesting to learn what your school was all about, it’s mission and the results of it! I agree, in so many things we have to take the initiative to continue reaching out to different cultures and countries, to learn about them, even if it is as simple as having pen pals from a variety of countries and situations. I learned a lot from working in soup kitchens in local cities. Keep up the good work!! Hope your summer is going well!

As for project weeks and sustainability , I'd say it really depends on your college. Some UWCs don't have the funds to pay for a flight for you to go abroad to do charity work...at RCN we all stayed in Norway during project week :)

Hi! I didn't know how it is at different UWCs so thank you for sharing! For us, we had quite a few project weeks which included flights but it is great that you guys have stayed more local :)

I think it's dangerous beyond understanding that its normal now to think that any idea isn't worth discussing ir shouldn't be discussed. Modernist always use this excuse (not giving them a platform) which is quite literally what many communist and socialists as well as nazi regimes said in the 19th and 20tg century. ("don't allow jews/x in positions that allow them to share their views") EVERY IDEA should be challenged and allowed to be discussed. Doesn't matter what it is. Discussions about anything can potentially influence that area and change things for the better, even if its a small potential and it doesn't seem that wat at the time.
@ElenaHandtrack4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I agree with you to an extent but I draw the line at things which are straight-up lies and where giving people a platform may do more harm or even be illegal and for me, Holocaust denial is definitely among these topics!

Hi! I went to a diverse school in Germany as well, but that diversity was not used in order to make students learn from each other! UWC makes use of that diversity and encourages dialogue about cultural differences and so that's why I chose that different format :)

Hey Elena! Since you are a German I want to ask about holocaust because in my college we have a professor who has studied history a lot and he claims that holocaust never occurred and there was a woman from Germany who was 93 years old and said that it didn't happen and was taken to a court and still refused to apologize in front of the judge for her statement. This is the example he gave us in the class. Although I strongly believe that this terrible thing did happen! But I am not well educated in this topic so couldn't put my point in front of him. If you can, then please reply and tell because I am certainly not that well informed about this topic and would like to have knowledge so that the next time I interact with such a person I could counter him.
@Lena-tj4le4 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm from Germany too. The holocaust definitely existed. In my city there is a woman who lived through this horrible thing and shares her experiences with young people. She even wrote a book about it.
