@@JamesAnderson-dp1dt true but there is no “canon” in Tolkien. He was constantly changing things just weeks before he passed away. The Silmarillion, as published, is NOT what Tolkien himself would have wanted published. This is clear and admitted by Christopher if you read the 12 volumes of the History of Middle Earth. Most seasoned Tolkien scholars will say the same about “canon”. “Theme” is more important to those that study Tolkien in depth. The “theme” of Galadriel was he made her more and more awesome every time he reimagined her character. She was very special to Tolkien, especially after his wife passed just a few years before he did. He also took issue with critics saying he wrote 1 dimensional female characters. A version of the 1 dimensional Galadriel appears in the PJ LOTR films but he kind of adds another dimension to her in the hobbit films.

She was an incredibly powerful elf.. the most powerful left in Middle Earth after the war of the last alliances, she lost her daughter, kept her granddaughter safe, Stayed a loving and caring wife, preserved her lands and peoples, made sure her land was fruitful and defended.. what else was there to do during the long ages between the two great wars? She was a positive influence for all... that is all any of us can be, long or short lived.

I'm not so sure she was the most powerful, maybe with her ring, but Cirdan also had a ring before he gave it to Gandalf, and Cirdan is literally the oldest being in Middle Earth next to Sauron and the wizards, he came from the very first Chilrdren of Illuvatar to exist in Arda. He was given exceptional foresight by the Valar and is probably close to 30,000 years old.

She and her kin sacrificed too much, she had to see it through. No one else was left from the 1st age of the Valinor elves. If she left all would have been in vain. Like Gandolf said, It's about the little acts of kindness that Sauron will underestimate his weaknesses(not just from people, but from the Elves that remain!), or overlook. They were not there for power, lands and prestige but for love and Kin, (several quotes in a nutshell) that will give us our best chance. Aluvitar understood this, but the Valinor elves(her father, who asked her to come home, didn't!) maybe never did, (understand the BIG Picture), Another teaching moment. Galadriel, her brother Finrod, knew their destiny (I think his conversations with her, prepared her for the moment), and she and Elrond knew what they had to do! PS, The movie messed this up. In the books, most of the main characters knew what they had to do. THEY KNEW! Jackson really messed this up. The Books were clear about this! Take care.

Did Galadriel's ring do anything "useful" during the time she could not wear it? I suppose that sounds silly, but between the time when Sauron donned his One Ring, forcing Galadriel, Cirdan, and Gil-Galad to take their rings off, and Sauron's defeat, and subsequent loss of the One, when she could safely don it, again, I don't know if it was still able to support Lothlorien, or if such places slowly dimmed, as they would, till the Dark Lord's defeat, when she could risk wearing it, again. It's obviously been important to Galadriel, for a great many of the years it has existed, and she has cared for it, but what of that time where it simply had to sit, hidden, in Lothlorien, while Sauron and the Free Peoples did battle? I feel like Celebimbor's loss was a sad one, but was there any reason his soul wouldn't just move to the Halls of Mandos, upon his demise, or not? I typically complain that Sauron' Ring had a "cost". As much as it did for him, and he intended wirh it, he had to mutilate his essence; his own true self, to carve off a majority portion of it, and tie it up in the Ring, to be able to dominate the other Rings, and that without even being aware of the Three, and how strong they were, but then Feanor seemingly crafted the Palantiri, and even the Silmarils, "for free". He paid with his life, eventually, which compelled him to not live forever, and many other lives were also lost, while he now must reside within the Halls of Mandos practically till the end of days, but that's different to what Sauron paid. Celebimbor, and the Gwaith i'Mirdain, forged numerous rings, and other than doing so caused Sauron to eventually kill them, they seemed "free", but were they? Did Celebimbor "lose" anything of himself into his Rings that his soul might've lingered, or not been whole, and didn't make it, or is his just another Elven soul dwelling with Mandos, because despite Elves reincarnating, if they aren't named Glorfindel, they seem to have to wait some time, for their death to still have impact, and meaning. Entirely unrelated, but I do find it odd that, when Elendil and Co arrived in Middle Earth, after the Fall of Numenor, one of the first things that happened wasn't being attacked by loyal Kingsmen, who survived as colonists, in Middle Earth. They were already violent enough to kill Faithful, and so separated from Numenor, they might have seen Elendil, and his fellow fleers, as traitors who abandoned Numenor, or even brought about its ruin, yet they did nothing, and Sauron didn't have servants spread rumors among them, meaning he, and his Orcs, had to fight them, and the Elves. Feels like a missed play, on the Dark Lord's part, especially since the colonials already had lairs set up, while Elendil, and his sons, needed to set up Gondor, and Arnor, and these weren't territories already held by their Elven allies, or something.
@juliemaiifanai83654 ай бұрын
@@venkelos6996 ohhh! Good points. I think you missed the part where Féanor and his kin basically doomed themselves to the everlasting dark in their oath re: Oath of Féanor. So, it's possible none of the Féanorians ever reside in the halls of Mandos. As for the Elendili coming to Middle Earth after the fall of Numenor, it's also important to remember that they seemed to have the manpower to build entire cities in a span of what?a few decades? So, the survivors might still have been quite the number and therefore the allies of Sauron might not have the nerve to battle them, hate them though they did.

Oh man...two more things: 1. According to the lore, if RoP wanted to have some kind of romance involving Galadriel, they could have create a really interesting triangle between Celeborn-Gal-and Celebrimbor. (Though I find that completely unnecessary!) 2. RoP Season 2 will show the (very quick) fall of Eregion and then I ask myself: where are the elves going to go? I suppose Elrond will help them 'find' refuge. I ask myself when Galadriel will establish Lothlorien... I REALLY don't understand why RoP couldn't have used Season 1 to do the Annatar-Forge Rings storyline, with Galadriel and Celeborn going off to found Lothlorien... #shakesheadindisbelief

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is beautifully created and it would be good for the RoP showrunners to maybe watch this. For all the airy-fairy progressive stuff the producers think they included in RoP, they've actually turned Galadriel into a VERY weak character. She is the one with all the wisdom and one who wouldn't be deceived by Sauron. All the other elves were. That makes her stand out as an incredibly strong character. In my eyes, that will always be my number 1 reason for loathing RoP. Nothing is more "feminist" than what Tolkien had written. Like many of his contemporaries, he created stunning and powerful female characters, who were able to foreshadow the shadow(s) - literally & figuratively. The whole point is that she, as a woman, will not be tempted by the evil that Annatar has unleashed. Your video reminded me once again of how that storyline should never have been changed...and the fact that Celeborn is sorely missing from RoP!!!! It's more realistic. The further back in time you go in our own real world history, the more contradictions and confusions you find. Conflicting sources. Differing accounts. Was Darius still alive when Alexander's army found him? Conflicting accounts, we'll never know. So even though this surely wasn't intended by Tolkien, the contradictions in his own canon actually make it more realistic for me.

This video points out one of the major flaws in Amazon’s Rings of Power-changing the characters into something they are not in addition to ignoring the stories Tolkien wrote. Today and historically there are and have been women warriors. Vikings fought fiercely along side men. Women are soldiers, sailors and military pilots. There are also women who are states people, scientists, doctors, religious leaders and counselors. They are no less powerful than those who fight in war. The writers of The Rings of Power fall into a trap born out of the mistreatment of women in society that was thrust into the publican consciousness in the 1960s. Many important strides were made out of the feminist movement, though there is a long way to go. One misconceptions arose that was meant to be supportive of strong women but is actually misogynistic, the notion that a woman cannot be powerful as a female and must become male with testosterone charged attitudes and actions. Galadriel was not a warrior. Her immense power came from wisdom and foresight and the ability to inspire and motivate people from a feminine perspective of supporting others and building strong relationships. Some people who speak of empowering women consider such traits as weaker than physical male violence, yet those traits are as powerful in achieving any goal. @@anonymouslyopinionated656 well, I love Tolkien and his works but I love the show too.. not every adaptation has to follow the source material directly. Look at Harry Potter, MCU, and The Walking Dead they didn't follow the source material and there loved.

Well, I'm one that absolutely hates anyone trifling with a franchise that I love. Adding detail that stays strictly within the tone and factual lore of the original, I'm okay with that. That's just loyally filling in the blanks. But I cannot stomach this fundamental remaking of well-known characters, breaking timelines, contradicting major themes, injecting contemporary values and societal patters, etc. I just can't enjoy a show that does such things IF i am familiar with, and liked, the original. However, if someone can enjoy the show for what it is, keeping it compartmentalized separate from the source material, I reckon that's their right, and no reason it should bother me at all.

Suggestion. Wait until all episodes of series 2, rings of p are aired. Then compare Tolkien's Galadriel, Rings of P Galadriel and Peter Jackson's Galadriel. I know you kind of do that here by descrbing Tolkien's version already, but a proper comparison would be cool. Oh and is there actually such a thing as a 'leader behind the scenes', which is what you say Galadriel spends most of her time doing in the 2nd age? Hands up please who thinks a woman's place is in the kitchen? Lol 😂

What on earth is that last sentence about?
@fred200974 ай бұрын
@@Dilmahkana just being cheeky. Some people on KZbin seem outraged just because Galadriel is proactive in rings of p. (for example, I've heard her called 'Guy-ladriel'). Personally, I think she's fabulous (I'm a lady too). I'd rather have rings of p Galadriel facing the witch king at minas tirith than Peter Jackson's soppy Galadriel any day. Unhappily, instead she decides to stay home 'in the background' - I quote broken sword. A shame Feanor didn't also decide to stay at home 'in the background'.

Not trying to stick up for Amazon because they certainly could have done better within the confines of what they were allowed to do, but the Tolkien estate forced this situation by licensing the world and the characters but not the stories. Amazon was blocked from doing any stories directly from the Silmarillion, so all the people complaining that RoP isn't doing anything directly from the Silmarillion should realize it is because the Tolkien estate would not allow it. If the Tolkien estate had said "do it like the Silmarillion said" I feel pretty confident that RoP would have been more book accurate. They didn't so it isn't and can never be.

Amazon purchased the rights it wanted to tell the story it wanted to tell. And pretend it is Tolkien.
@jrconway34 ай бұрын
This is a really dumb argument. The Tolkein estate could have prevented this calamity by actually forcing them to write a good script, but that's irrelevant because they only cared about money. However, to say its their fault because they forced Amazon to only use the appendices is grossly naive. Amazon could have written a story set in the time of the materials they DID have access to. Or simply refuse to license it if they couldn't tell the story they wanted. This was also irrelevant because they didn't care; they just wanted to make something with LOTR in the name. and I guarantee it would have garbage even IF they had access to the full story. They still would have been forcing their agenda on the story instead of adhering to Tolkein's legacy.

I think RoP is a great fan fiction. it sucks that amazon doesn’t have rights to most of the crucial stuff but whatever, hence the random stuff they added lol. It seems to be a recurring thing in TV adaptions of books. Let’s just look at HotD, GoT, Wheels of Time, etc. Directors/Writers want to put it in THEIR image and not the author/creator and that’s where they always fumble!

The elves invented the rings of power. Souron created a bootleg copy of their technology that he called the Master Ring, and later claimed that he held the copyright on all the rings of power. The whole LOTR story was about the elves plotting to destroy the One Ring, making the humans and hobbits do their dirty work for them! This was revealed in Bilbos and Frodos expose, The Red Book of Westmarch, originally entitled, The Valley of the Trolls. 😊
