@@THGMR-ox7sd I like! This is my second favorite generational gimmick after berries/items in Gen 2 or maybe third after Hidden abilities. Every pokemon has access to it, and Dynamaxing makes weak moves decently strong. I'm a dude raised in the era where TMs were breakable and most were not re-obtainable, this gave me habit not to teach my pokemon strong moves and rely on level-up learnset. Dragonite is most likely based on a salamander/dragon..... Dratini and dragonair are tadpole stages, which explains why they live in water. Most likely not a reptile unless you consider a dragon a reptile even though they are not real

that episode is actually based off of a story by Ray Bradbury called "the foghorn" about a giant underwater dinosaur gets attracted to a lighthouse because it's foghorn made a similar sound that it made. with in pokemon lore it doesn't make a lot of sense. but keep in mind this was one of the earliest episodes in the series. the lore wasn't strict back then, it was just a crazy tv show loosely based on a video game and they could do whatever they wanted. There was also an episode with an unexplained talking ghastly that had many supernatural powers that the pokemon isn't supposed to have. and that episode was made by the same writer as this one.

Giant Dragonite was clearly supposed to be Lugia. 1. Singing is a big thing for it, which isn’t for Dragonite, but is for Lugia. 2. Lives in the ocean, which Dragonite doesn’t, but Lugia does. 3. The writing/voice acting doesn’t show any reference to it being a Dragonite, likely meaning this was all done before the animation. My guess is they wanted to do this as a nod to Lugia, but lacked a final design, so they just did giant Dragonite.

This was supposed to be Lugia. The cries of this Dragonite are similar to the cries in the movie where Lugia appears for the first time. Theories suggest that they scrapped it last moment, because they didn’t want to ruin the hype around Mewtwo, so they went with a large Dragonite instead.

@afro025 3 жыл бұрын
@@LeneAlexandraa yeah, I do. *a lot* of evidence. First of all, lugia wasn't created by game freak but rather by takeshi shudo, the head writer of the pokemon anime. He created it because gold and silver was still in development and they needed something for the second movie to center around. Eventually the writers decided to make their own pokemon for the movie which is how lugia was created. Remember, this episode came out in *1997,* which is *two* whole years before the second pokemon movie came out in japan. Not to mention how an episode of pokemon at the very least takes 6 months in advance to make before it airs because of the script, animation, voice acting, and much more. Anyhow game freak was impressed by lugia and decided to put him in the game. This is why in the space world demo for gold and silver lugia was *nowhere* to be seen, as it was never planned to be in the game to begin with. My sources for this information are takeshi shudo's blog posts which have been archived and translated by dr lava, but you can also watch "did you know gaming's" video talking about the creation of lugia

It’s an homage to Godzilla. Hence the exact screech made by the giant Pokemon. Being it was the beginning of the show, they didn’t have an established lore. Perhaps they weren’t thinking of continuity. There a quite a few concepts that were left without an explanation. Ironically its ambiguous nature of not adding up, has made the episode so memorable. We were never supposed to have an official answer. It was a single spinoff, that they never intended to elaborate on.

Pretty sure this episode is kind of inspired by an old short-story called "The Fog Horn", and it's basically about a giant monster spotted near a lighthouse. That same short-story inspired a 1953 Ray Harryhausen monster movie "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" and that movie in turn was, alongside 1933 King Kong, one of the main inspirations for the first Godzilla movie in 1954. Huh... are we sure Pokémon aren't at least a bit related to the Kaiju?

the fact that its described as being the only one of its kind, sounds pretty lonely if you ask me. which in turn reminds me of some whales whose songs cannot be heard by others of their kinds, which turns them into very lonely individuals indeed. and this dragonites song truly does sound lonely and sad, and in a way desperate, just like those whales songs likely would. great now im reminded of that one bird that was the last of its kind, singing in intervals where a female bird was supposed to sing along with it.
