There is no shortage of doctrinal myths and misunderstandings in the church that seem to get propagated from generation to generation. One of these is what exactly is the curse of Cain. Many both in and out of the church would answer that "Black Skin" but that is incorrect. Some in the church get pretty comfortable with what they think they know; but sometimes we get shocked at a doctrinal truth that goes against what we have always believed. Then when those misunderstandings are put under the microscope of science, or the lens of history, or must hold under apostate pressure, or pitted against our beliefs regarding the nature of God and His plan, these "traditions and myths" can cause some to fall away due to a lack of knowledge. The curse of Cain is the subject of this video.

Thanks for this fantastic video!!! I'm a black member of the church; growing up I was taught that the skin of blackness was the curse. Not until much later in life did I learn the real doctrine of the church. Thank you for explaining this in detail and really fleshing out the truth of what we know.

There is a false satanic doctrine that targets each race and each one is designed to tickle the racist bias of all those who believe it. Similar to this false theory of Cain being black, many people also believe that God hates white people because they think Esau was white. They are all in for a rude awakening when they meet the real God and find out how hoodwinked they were by the devil they thought they were fighting.

I suggest the dark skin of the Lamanites was acquired through intermarrying with the people already in the Promised Land which was a curse in that they took upon themselves the ways of those people, which were not the ways of the Lord, and persecuted those who followed the Savior. The curse isn't skin color it's loss of blessings as a result of apostasy, and skin color only served to differentiate those people at that time. Thank you for yet another enlightening video.

Check out Abraham 1:21-27 and Moses 7:8 Abraham 1:21-27 talks about the posterity of Ham being the Canaanites, and their lineage not having the right of the Priesthood. Moses 7:8 (as mentioned by Kevin in his video) talks about "a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan". The Bible dictionary (look up Ham) also mentions " they were the southern nations: from Cush came the dark-skinned race of eastern Africa and southern Arabia;" I think these verses are why the curses of Cain and Ham get convoluted.

Nice clarification on the curse, verses the Abrahamic blessings. I think it's obvious that we have 2 witnesses that God has changed skin color in the past, just like we have 2 witnesses that He has confounded languages. Analyzing curses regarding the priesthood is interesting. You have to consider Ham. You have to consider that this is the dispensation of the fullness of times. You have to consider that revelation regarding the delegation of priesthood responsibility was the stewardship of past prophets. None of us nonprophets are qualified to call their past policies a mistake. It just is what it is. But, I love the analysis of the Abrahamic blessings vs the curse. Great point!

I enjoyed your insights about the curse of Cain and the Abrahamic Covenant. Thank you for providing this wonderful video! As to the dark skin of the Lamanites, I think it has to do with spiritual darkness, not skin color. I had an experience with this. I had a friend who lived with a man who was blond hair, blue eyed. When I first met him, I thought he was Latino. But when I met him again on another occasion, he was clearly blond/blue-eyed but he still had a darkness about him that wasn't anything to do with his complexion. It wasn't long after this that he was caught breaking into people's homes and stealing Christmas gifts. In fact, he was the leader of a group of thieves that had plagued our area for a couple of years. Conversely, when we read in the BOM about how fair and white the Nephites were or in Nephi's vision of Jesus' mother, Mary, as being fair and white, I believe this refers to being beautiful (i.e being righteous) and filled with the Holy Ghost. These are my thoughts only, take them for what they're worth. Thanks again for this great channel. Love it!

In terms of a scriptural reading this was quite informative, I think you could have gone into greater detail however about how the 'blackness' of the mark of Cain/Cannan became translated socio-culturally as black skin, not to mention how Cain and Cannan's respective curses became intermingled. I think it's worth remembering that whatever our modern readings of scripture, the mark of black skin was taken quite literally in the past and used as a biblical justification for racial inferiority throughout the 15th-19th centuries (likely later). The fact that the book of Mormon was written during the height of racialised slavery in the US probably point to why this religious text specifically marks out skin colour as a curse.

Great video! As a side note I think it is important to understand that the curse of darkened skin in the lamanites was specifically put upon them to protect them from the consequences of the wicked nature of their fathers, Laman and Lemuel. It was so they would be spared the wrath of God and be able to receive the fullness of the Gospel in the latter days, thereby preserving the abrahamic Covenant unto the children of Abraham in the new world. Any Mark or curse put upon a person or group of people that was not the result of their own direct action is always put upon them as a blessing of protection from either physical or spiritual damage. Even the mark put upon Cain was an act of mercy to protect him from the very same act which he himself had just committed.

Great video! I absolutely love your contrast of the blessing and the curse of God. Awesome work! On an interesting side note, some have had experiences with of Cain. Elder David Patten saw Cain and conversed with him. Joseph Fielding Smith’s brother, while serving as a mission president in Hawaii also had an experience with Cain. I’m not so convinced Cain could not “die,” as many saints believe. There are apocryphal accounts of Lamech his son accidentally shooting him with an arrow, thinking he was a beast in the forest and killing him. Regardless though, whenever he is seen, he quickly vanishes. I think Cain died. I think that Cain cannot find rest though. He longs to be put out of his misery, but cannot. Such is the fate of perdition. Death does not bring rest for him. I think that he wanders in his anger and sadness as a spirit, seeking to destroy. He appears as a spiritual manifestation, but is rebuked and disappears again. These are just some of my thoughts.

I believe the topic, while worthy of study, should not be used as an outward tool to judge the masses. For if a person repents and comes unto Christ, that person is healed. Results are the only judgement that matters. Keeping in mind that Cains knowledge had to requisite to the punishment, I think it’s safe to say that many cannot meet that same threshold…even if the mark was the black negro population. Therefore repentance is for all and the celestial opportunities abound for everyone as soon as they are ready. 😁

Who/when were the last homo sapiens to not be descendants of Adam and Eve? I sure don't know, but were they eligible for the priesthood? Serious question. Ancient idioms using body parts don't need to be taken literally. When the scriptures say things like stiffnecked or hard hearted, or skin of blackness, it doesn't literally mean their necks were stiff etc. It's symbolism. Look up black symbolism in the Bible and you will learn it represents things like sorrow, grief, and rejection. For example, when Job is describing his suffering he says, "my skin is black." I think we can err by applying modern thinking to ancient words.

Like in Jeremiah 8:21, he says “For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.” The footnote for black says “Hebrew idiom meaning ‘gloomy.’ Joel 2:6 Nahum 2:10.” Our speech describing skin color as “white” and “black” seems to be modern. Understanding idioms is key when reading ancient texts and speech.

I don't think the 'skin of blackness' was the curse in 2 Ne 5. vs 20 "Inasmuch as they will not hearken unto thy (Nephi's) words they shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord. And behold, they were cut off from his presence." Being cut off from the presence of the Lord was the curse. vs 21: And he had caused the cursing to come upon them (past tense, already done, in vs 20), yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint;" "wherefore" (therefore, consequently, for that reason) the Lord caused the skin of blackness to come upon them because he (the Lord) did not want the Lamanites, who were now cut off from Him, to be 'enticing' unto Nephi's people. Future generations of Lamanites would be brought up with hearts like unto a flint, taught the same iniquitous behavior as their fathers, deserving the same cursing, and the Lord did not want any Nephites to join them on that road and share that same fate.

There is many Scripture’s written regarding the Curse and the Mark. It is written….Alma3:6-19 3 And now as many of the Lamanites and the Amlicites who had been slain upon the bank of the river Sidon were cast into the awaters of Sidon; and behold their bones are in the depths of the bsea, and they are many. 4 And the aAmlicites were distinguished from the Nephites, for they had bmarked themselves with red in their foreheads after the manner of the Lamanites; nevertheless they had not shorn their heads like unto the Lamanites. 5 Now the heads of the Lamanites were shorn; and they were anaked, save it were skin which was girded about their loins, and also their armor, which was girded about them, and their bows, and their arrows, and their stones, and their slings, and so forth. 6 And the skins of the Lamanites were dark, according to the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was a acurse upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob, and Joseph, and Sam, who were just and holy men. 7 And their brethren sought to destroy them, therefore they were cursed; and the Lord God set a amark upon them, yea, upon Laman and Lemuel, and also the sons of Ishmael, and Ishmaelitish women. 8 And this was done that their seed might be distinguished from the seed of their brethren, that thereby the Lord God might preserve his people, that they might not amix and believe in incorrect btraditions which would prove their destruction. 9 And it came to pass that whosoever did mingle his seed with that of the Lamanites did bring the same curse upon his seed. 10 Therefore, whosoever suffered himself to be led away by the Lamanites was called under that head, and there was a mark set upon him. 11 And it came to pass that whosoever would not believe in the atradition of the Lamanites, but believed those records which were brought out of the land of Jerusalem, and also in the tradition of their fathers, which were correct, who believed in the commandments of God and kept them, were bcalled the Nephites, or the people of Nephi, from that time forth- 12 And it is they who have kept the records which are atrue of their people, and also of the people of the Lamanites. 13 Now we will return again to the Amlicites, for they also had a amark set upon them; yea, they set the mark upon themselves, yea, even a mark of red upon their foreheads. 14 Thus the word of God is fulfilled, for these are the words which he said to Nephi: Behold, the Lamanites have I cursed, and I will set a mark on them that they and their seed may be aseparated from thee and thy seed, from this time henceforth and forever, except they repent of their wickedness and bturn to me that I may have mercy upon them. 15 And again: I will set a mark upon him that mingleth his seed with thy brethren, that they may be cursed also. 16 And again: I will set a mark upon him that fighteth against thee and thy seed. 17 And again, I say he that departeth from thee shall no more be called thy seed; and I will bless thee, and whomsoever shall be called thy seed, henceforth and forever; and these were the promises of the Lord unto Nephi and to his seed. 18 Now the Amlicites knew not that they were fulfilling the words of God when they began to mark themselves in their foreheads; nevertheless they had come out in open arebellion against God; therefore it was expedient that the curse should fall upon them. 19 Now I would that ye should see that they brought upon themselves the acurse; and even so doth every man that is cursed bring upon himself his own condemnation. Well it seems clear to me what I read is the Curse and the Mark that was given literally means the same thing. And the Dark Skin was the Curse and the Mark given so that people can discern who they were. And that also the Amlicites marked themselves and the Lord Cursed them also. Very interesting Topic tho. But it’s clear that Some of us Lack Knowledge. And I would rather read how it is Black and White. Line upon Line. Precept upon Precept. We shall learn about what is what and that will benefit for my own understanding for me to come unto the Lord in Knowledge and understanding as I am moved upon by the Holy Ghost that giveth utterance unto me and will teach me and guide me unto all Truth and knowledge for my own benefit. So please Just know it is unprofitable and vain and it profits no one that differs in opinions. The Lord has spoken and it is written for us to learn. Till we all come unto the Faith in unity and Truth. May Lord God bless You’s all with the Spirit of Discernment for your own understanding.

Archeological evidence strongly suggests that humans arrived in the Americas at least 13,000 years before Lehi's family. So, the most likely scenario is that the Lamanites acquired their dark skins, along with a culture that included loincloths, hunter/gatherer lifestyles, and false religious beliefs, by intermarrying with indigenous American peoples to the south of them. The addition of indigenous tribes to the Lamanite people also explains how they were always about twice as numerous as the Nephites early on, whom God likely blessed to be at least as fertile as their wicked relatives south of them.

Teachings on the biblical curse of Cain and the curse of Ham in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and their effects on Black people in the LDS Church have changed throughout the church's history. Both church founder Joseph Smith, and his most popular successor Brigham Young taught that Black people were under the curse of Ham,[1][2] and the curse of Cain.[3]: 27 [4][5] Smith and Young both referred to the curses as a justification for slavery.[6]: 126 [1][7] They also taught that dark skin marked people of African ancestry as cursed by God.[3]: 27 [8] In Smith's revisions of the King James Bible, and production of the Book of Abraham he traced their cursed state back to the curses placed on Cain and Ham, and linked the two curses by positioning Ham's Canaanite posterity as matrilinear descendants of Cain.[3]: 22, 29, 31, 54-57

Because of this, Noah cursed Ham's son, Canaan to be "servants of servants".[15][6]: 125  Although the scriptures do not mention Ham's skin color, some doctrines associated the curse with Black people and used it to justify slavery.[6]: 125

The long version of Cain/Adam/Jesus (winter) and Abel/Eve/Christ (summer) myth. Adam "knew" Eve about the time of the spring equinox, at the very moment when the Virgin Mary " was overshadowed by the Holy Ghost," or March wind (March 25). This would indicate that Cain's birth occurred at the winter solstice, and so was coincident with the birth of Jesus Christ. Very soon, however, it is said, "Eve again bare his brother Abel" (Gen. 4:2). Did Eve bear Abel a second time? The language certainly indicates this. The Hebrew says she added to her bearing his brother Abel; and thus, we may suppose Cain and Abel were twins, like Esau and Jacob. "Cain," it is said (Gen. 4:2), "was a tiller of the ground." The Hebrew says he was an obed, i.e., a slave of the ground (Adam). Cain is, literally, a lance; an instrument used in hunting in winter, and by metonymy, is winter itself. No; Cain was not a tiller of the ground; but like all savages, he was a slave, and subject to all the hardships and inconveniences of savage life. What kind of a "tiller of the ground" could he be whose labors were decreed by the Almighty to go unrewarded - unto whom it was decreed that when he tilled it, the ground "shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength" It was a common tradition that Eve always bore twins. (Gould's Legends of the Patriarchs, p. 69.) (Gen.4:12), but only "thorns and thistles" (Gen. 3.18)? 'Tis true, in Gen. 3. 19, Adam is told he shall " eat his bread in the sweat of his brow;" but "lehem" here translated " bread," means food in general - such as the savage usually gets, and that too by the sweat of his face. Abel means the same as Eve, i.e., breath, life or summer. Thus. we find Cain and Abel are the true offspring of Adam and Eve; the same exactly as one year is the offspring of the preceding year. Hence, too, we find that this myth is but a rehash of that of Adam and Eve. "In process of time," reads our false version, "Cain brought of the fruit of the ground, etc." (Gen. 4:3). "At the end of his days" is the true rendering, i.e., at the end of winter, on the night before "the Beginning" of the New Year, which was at the vernal equinox. At the end of winter, then, " Cain brought of the fruit of the ground" - "thorns also and thistles," i.e., the dreary and desolate earth - as an offering unto the Lord (summer). "And Abel, he also, brought of the first-born of his flock," i.e., Aries, the first of the summer constellations. Thus, we see the two brothers, winter and summer, met at the spring equinox. "The Lord had respect unto Abel and his offering" (Gen. 4:4). Of course; and the Lord (the summer Sun) was right, for who has not respect for the seven fruitful months of summer (Abel) over which the Lord presided, and their rich and precious gifts ‘(“But unto Cain and his offering (the dreary and desolate earth), he had not respect." No wonder. The Lord-God had previously (Gen. 3. 18) cursed the ground so that when Cain tilled it, it would bring forth "thorns and thistles." And hence, I think, none of us would disapprove of the Lord's preference. "So, Cain was wroth, and his countenance fell," i.e., winter returned, when the surface of the earth was turned from the Sun, the heavens were overcast with clouds and the winds blew cold. The author, John Lund, regrets writing that book. He was very young in the church when he wrote it. Since then, he has had a great run as a popular speaker at Church Education events. He is a very charismatic speaker. My family were good friends with while he lived in Washington. Dr. Hugh Nibley's interpretation of the pertinent passages in the Pearl of Great Price make a lot more sense than the Cain-based myths crafted by slavers centuries ago to justify their bondage of blacks.

If darker skin was the mark of Cain's curse then it shouldn't be a big issue; Adam was also cursed 'by the sweat of thy brow shalt thou eat bread' as was Eve 'in sorrow shalt thou bring forth children' - the supposed curse became a blessing; in Cain's case it introduced a new race which resulted in many different races, also, Cain is the first born and his descendants (dark skinned races) trace their origin thousands of years back to him (Cain), so they have more direct lineage to Adam and Eve. The lies of European slavers and the color-code system they introduced is the reason for the racial prejudice which exists today; the blood of Cain is mixed in with that of Seth, making us all cursed.

There are numerous accounts linking the curse of Cain (i.e., lack of Priesthood) with dark skin. Joseph Smith specifically referred to those of African descent as "sons of Cain," showing that this doctrinal belief did not originate with Brigham Young: "in the evening debated with J. C. Bennet [John C. Bennett]. & others, to shew that the Indians have greater cause to complain of the treatment of the whites than the *Negroes or Sons of Cain."* ("Journal, December 1841-December 1842," The Joseph Smith Papers; January 25, 1842) --------- It was in fact Parley P. Pratt-not Brigham Young-that first fully enunciated the doctrine involved in the Priesthood Ban: "If people want to follow [James J.] Strang, go [do] it, *[if they] want to follow this Black man [i.e. William McCary] who has got the blood of Ham in him which lineage was cursed as regards the Priesthood,* follow a new thing, hatch it up, for we have only the old thing. It was old in Adam's day, it was old in Mormon's day, and hid up in the earth, and it was old in 1830 when we first began to preach it." (Parley P. Pratt, April 25 1847, Historian's Office General Church Minutes, 1846-1850, Church History Library) --------- The Apostle David W. Patten actually experienced an encounter with Cain in person, according to the following account related by Abraham O. Smoot: "In relation to the subject of the visit of Cain to Brother David W. Patten in the State of Tennessee, about which you wrote to me, I will say that according to the best of my recollection it was in the month of September, 1835. It was in the evening, just twilight, when Brother Patten rode up to my father's house, alighted from his mule and came into the house. The family immediately observed that his countenance was quite changed. My mother having first noticed his changed appearance said: 'Brother Patten, are you sick?' He replied that he was not, but had just met with a very remarkable personage who had represented himself as being Cain, who murdered his brother, Abel. He went on to tell the circumstances as near as I can recall in the following language: 'As I was riding along the road on my mule I suddenly noticed a very strange personage walking beside me. He walked along beside me for about two miles. His head was about even with my shoulders as I sat in my saddle. He wore no clothing, but was covered with hair. *His skin was very dark.* I asked him where he dwelt and he replied that he had no home, that he was a wanderer in the earth and traveled to and fro. He said he was a very miserable creature, that he had earnestly sought death during his sojourn upon the earth, but that he could not die, and his mission was to destroy the souls of men. About the time he expressed himself thus, I rebuked him in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by virtue of tho Holy Priesthood, and commanded him to go hence, and he immediately departed out of my sight. When he left me I found myself near your house.' There was much conversation about the circumstances between Brother Patten and my family which I don't recall, but the above is in substance his statement to us at the time. The date is, to the best of my recollection, and I think it is correct, but it may possible have been in the spring of 1836, but I feel quite positive that the former date is right." (Life of David W. Patten, The First Apostolic Martyr by Lycurgus A. Wilson, pp. 45-47) --------- Orson Hyde received a revelation while an apostate in Missouri that if he would not repent, he would come under "the curse of Cain." Other contemporary sources specifically linked this curse with receiving dark skin and a loss of Priesthood: "I was on my return from Richmond, landing with a span of mares and wagon, belonging to B. Jones and on the wide prairie I saw a man walking behind me. I reined in the team to let him overtake me, and who should it be but Orson Hyde, who had apostatized in the fuss, but had seen a vision in which it was made known to him that if he did not make immediate restitution to the Quorum of the Twelve, he would be cut off and all his posterity, and *that the curse of Cain would be upon him.* I invited him to ride with me, which he was very thankful for as he was very much fatigued. I also divided my morsel of bread with him, but I was not much in love with apostates so soon after my exit from prison. But I saw that Brother Hyde was on the stool of repentance, and he did repent good and got back to his place in the Twelve." (Journal of Allen Joseph Stout, 1815-1889, typescript, BYU Special Collections) "Thus it is said of their chief Apostle [Orson Hyde], at present a president of a stake, and a distinguished writer in both politics and their theology, that he fell into doubt as to the truth of the system, and contemplated apostacy. He was saved by the ministry of angels. *A heavenly messenger appeared before him and warned him of the danger, and then pronounced upon him the doom of being soon obliged to take a negro tabernacle, unless he should repent and become zealous for the faith delivered to the Latter-Day Saints.* This was effectual in frightening him back to duty, for they hold *the 'Negro is cursed as to the priesthood, and must always be a servant wherever his lot is cast, and therefore shall never attain to anything above a dim shining glory."* (The Mormons: Or, Latter-day Saints, in the Valley of the Great Salt Lake (1852), by J.W. Gunnison, p. 51) --------- Orson Hyde also taught this same doctrine in the Council of Fifty less than a year after Joseph Smith died: "The chairman [Brigham Young] called upon Elder [Orson] Hyde to relate to the council the story about how the Negroes come, on which Counsellor Orson Hyde stated that [...] 'I told them that in the council in heaven when Satan rebelled there were some who took an active part in the rebellion but yet were too cowardly to be leaders in the rebellion with Lucifer and others. The leaders in the rebellion were hurled from heaven to hell and were doomed to remain without bodies, *but the others whose crimes were not so great were cursed with blackness and became black spirits. When Cain murdered his brother Abel on the earth the Almighty cursed him and put a mark on him, or rather turned him black to give the black spirits a chance to come and take bodies like themselves and the black spirits taking the black bodies made the negroes."* (Joseph Smith Papers: Council of Fifty Minutes (March 22, 1845), pp. 359-360) --------- Brigham Young also of course reiterated this teaching himself, whilst in the office of President of the Church and Governor of Utah: "The Lord said I will not kill Cain, but I will put a mark upon him, and it is seen in the face of every Negro on the earth. And it is the decree of God that that mark shall remain upon the seed of Cain (and the curse) until all the seed of Abel should be redeemed; and Cain will not receive the Priesthood or salvation until all the seed of Abel are redeemed. Any man having one drop of the seed of Cain in him cannot hold the Priesthood, and if no other prophet ever spake it before, I will say it now, in the name of Jesus Christ, I know it is true, and others know it! The Negro cannot hold one particle of government. But the day will come when all the seed of Cain will be redeemed and have all the blessings we have now and a great deal more. But the seed of Abel will be ahead of the seed of Cain to all eternity. Let me consent today to mingle my seed with the seed of Cain, it would bring the same curse upon me and it would upon any man. And if any man mingle his seed with the seed of Cain, the only way he could get rid of it or have salvation would be to come forward and have his head cut off and spill his blood upon the ground; it would also take the life of his children." (February 5, 1852; Complete Discourses of Brigham Young, vol. 1, p. 471) --------- There are still numerous other sources declaring the same doctrine aside from these, but to pretend that the curse of Cain is considered a disconnected concept from dark skin in LDS theology is simply misleading.

@@payaj2815 If you want some slightly old-fashioned approaches to this issue, you could take a look at the books "Lineage of the Priesthood" and "Segregation of Israel" by Ogden Kraut, which are available online. There is also an intriguing (although very obscure) pamphlet titled, "The Whites-The Blacks and the Right of the Priesthood" by Fred C. Collier, published in a little-known magazine called "Doctrine of the Priesthood," November 2014, vol. 31, no. 9. This magazine is now out-of-print and very few copies of this pamphlet exist. There are also more mainstream academic resources such as "Religion of a Different Color" by Paul Reeve or "The Mormon Church and Blacks: A Documentary History" by Newell G. Bringhurst. However, both of these books operate from the belief that the Priesthood Ban was introduced by Brigham Young rather than Joseph Smith. This idea was introduced in 1973 by Lester E. Bush, but has subsequently been challenged (and in my view, refuted) by two excellent issues of a magazine called "One Eternal Round" (privately published in Orem, Utah by Jacob Vidrine) which are titled "New Light on the Origin of the Priesthood Ban" and "The Priesthood Ban and the Scriptures" which offer up-to-date scholarly arguments that the Priesthood Ban in fact originated during Joseph Smith's administration, not Brigham Young's. I want to clarify that by referencing any of these publications, I'm not necessarily agreeing with the conclusions of the respective authors. I just think these books provide a valuable data set of resources and references for coming to one's own conclusions on this issue.

These ideas existed long before the restored church. The fact that leaders in the early church could easily accept these ideas as the truth is a testament to their humanity and how commonly accepted these racist notions were. Ultimately, it would take revelation from God to dismiss these racist ideas as unfounded. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it wasn’t until after the civil rights movement that the policy of denying the priesthood to blacks was abandoned. If you remember the parable of the wheat and the tares - the tares had to be allowed to grow amongst the wheat. Because if the tares were pulled to soon the wheat would not survive. So we learn “line upon line”. And in the eternal scheme of things we will all know the “mysteries” of God bit by bit, as long as we’re willing and prepared to do so.

But his wife did have dark skin (being a descendant of Cain). Abraham 1:21-27 talks about the descendants of Ham being Canaanites, and Moses 7:8 links the "blackness" with the Canaanites, as does the Bible Dictionary entry for Ham - " ... they were the southern nations: from Cush came the dark-skinned race of eastern Africa and southern Arabia." Not really sure, but that's what I understand from the subject.

It’s often assumed that no one else was here when Lehi’s family arrived. But archaeologists would argue otherwise. It often feels that way in Old Testament stories. As if Abraham and his family were the only peoples in the world. If we consider the likelihood of their family not being alone on this continent 2 Nephi 5 read’s differently. In the case of Laman and his followers, their darkness began when Nephi and his followers left. As Jews they were expected to marry within their faith. If Laman’s followers were to ‘mix’ with those that were already here (outside of their faith) they would be braking their covenants. And if those people had dark skin their children would have dark skin.

Nope, we do know the mark is dark skin. It works like this: You are correct the curse was banishment from the priesthood, the church and God's people. The mark was an additional situation and an identification reality for Cain's seed. Not for Cain himself. Cain's direct brothers and sister wouldn't have any problem identifying their own brother. It wasn't uncommon for old text to refer to a linage by the original father's name. Such as we see in Genesis 5. 1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; 2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. So... we know it's a hereditary thing and that leaves skin color about the only option. I can see two possibilities where this could happen naturally and a biological reality. 1. Cain was born the first black man in a white family. The scriptures are not specific when the mark was given but is clear the mark was Cain's before he left the fold. Genesis 4 15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. 16 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 2. Along with a sister or two that might have gone with him.... who did Cain procreate with sufficient enough for a flourishing civilization to build cities with?? Mankind in the image and likeness of God was not the first man-like creatures God put on the earth. Why do many/most but not all of us have varying amounts of Neanderthal DNA in us?? What color skin did Hominid species have?? Hmmm..... :>) In likeness... When Nephi's crew landed in the Americas, Laman's party received a mark of Dark skin also. The mark is also referred to their seed. Obviously Laman was breeding like rabbits with the natives right off the bat and their Hebrew blood became lost in the larger population of Asian blood. This also explains why the Lamanites always largely out numbered the Nephites. Later in time it's clear some Lamanites converted into Nephites which would explain how and why their seed turned lighter skinned overcome by the dominate Hebrew bloodline. God bless. :>)

And he showed the weapons of death to the children of men, the shield and the breastplate, and the sword for slaughter, and all the weapons of death to the sons of men 69.7 And from his hand they have gone out against those who dwell the dry ground from that time and forever and ever. 1 Enoch 69:6-7 (Meni)= Azazel 8.1 And Azazel taught men to make swords, and daggers, and shields, and breastplates. And he showed them the things after these, and THE ART(Blueprints) of making them; bracelets, and ornaments, and the art of making up the eyes, and of beautifying the eyelids, and the most precious stones, and all kinds of coloured dyes. And the world was changed. 1 Enoch 8:1 10.4 And further Yahusha 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤕 Yahuah said to RAPHAEL: "Bind AZAZEL עֲזָאזֵל by his hands and his feet and throw him into the darkness. And split open the desert, which is in Dudael, and throw him there. 10.5 And throw on him JAGGED AND SHARP STONES and cover him with darkness. And let him stay there forever. And cover his face so that he may not see the light. 10.6 AND SO THAT, ON THE GREAT DAY OF JUDGMENT, HE MAY BE HURLED INTO THE FIRE. 10.7 And restore the Earth which IYRIN עִירִין/THE WATCHERS have ruined. And announce the restoration of the Earth. For Yahusha 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤕 Yahuah shall restore the Earth so that not all the sons of men shall be destroyed because of the knowledge which IYRIN עִירִין/THE WATCHERS made known and taught to their sons. 10.8 And the whole Earth has been ruined by the teaching of the works of AZAZEL; and against him write: ALL SIN." 1 Enoch 10:4-8 9 And when I awaked, I came unto them, and they were all sitting gathered together, weeping in 10 'Abelsjail, which is between Lebanon and Senir, with their FACES COVERED(BLACKENED). And I recounted before them all the visions which I had seen in sleep, and I began to speak the words of righteousness, and to reprimand the heavenly Watchers. 1 Enoch 13:9-10 • Lebanon means White Mountain • Senir Senir [N] [H] [S] =Shenir, the name given to Hermon by the Amorites ( Deuteronomy 3:9 ). It means "coat of mail" or "breastplate," and is equivalent to "Sirion." Some interpret the word as meaning "the prominent" or "the snowy mountain." It is properly the name of the central of the three summits of Hermon (q.v.). 🎯 1 THEN 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤕𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 ordered Azazel/Gadreel‽ to show himself to Adam in plainly, in his own hideous form. 2 But when Adam saw him, he feared, and trembled at the sight of him. 3 And 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤕𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 said to Adam, "Look at this devil, and at his hideous look, and know that he it is who made thee fall from brightness into darkness, from peace and rest to toil and misery. 4 And look, O Adam, at him, who said of himself that he is aluahym! Can 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤕𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 be black? Would 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤕𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 take the form of a woman? Is there any one stronger than 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤀𐤕𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏? And can He be overpowered? 5 "See, then, O Adam, and behold him bound in thy presence, in the air, unable to flee away! Therefore, I say unto thee, be not afraid of him; henceforth take care, and beware of him, in whatever he may do to thee." Book of Adam and Eve 4:1-5 12 And Gadreel departed from him. ⁉️🎴(Demonic Possession) But (Evil one) Azazel remained behind in the heart of Cain, who sought many a time, to kill his brother. Book of Adam and Eve 76:1-12 🎯🃏 "And Noah awoke from his wine (Gen 9:24)": he was sobered from his wine. 'And knew what his youngest [qatan] son had done to him.' Here [youngest] means, his worthless son, as you read, 'Because the brazen altar that was before Ad-nai was too small [qatan] to receive the bunt-offering, etc.' (I Kings 8:64). And He said: Cursed be Canaan (Genesis 9:25): Ham disagreed. Rabbi Yehudah said: Since it is written, 'And God blessed Noah and his sons' (Gen. 9:1), while there cannot be a curse where a blessing has been given, consequently. He said: Cursed be Canaan. Rabbi Nehemiah explained: It was Canaan who saw it [in the first place] and informed them, therefore the curse is attached to him who did wrong. Rabbi Berekiah said: Noah grieved very much in the Ark that he had no young son to wait on him, and declared, ‘When I go out I will beget a young son to do this for me.’ But when Ham acted thus to him, he exclaimed, ‘You have prevented me from begetting a young son to serve me, therefore that man [your son] will be a servant to his brethren!’ Rabbi Huna said in Rabbi Yosef’s name: [Noah declared], ‘You have prevented me from begetting a fourth son, therefore I curse your fourth son,’ Rabbi Huna also said in Rabbi Yosef’s name: You have prevented me from doing something that is done in the dark, therefore your seed will be ugly and dark-skinned. Rabbi Hiya said: 🎯 Ham and the dog copulated in the ark, therefore Ham came forth black-skinned while the dog publicly exposes its copulation. Rabbi Levi said: This may be compared to one who minted his own coinage in the very palace of the king, whereupon the king ordered: I decree that his effigy be defaced and his coinage cancelled. Similarly, Ham and the dog copulated in the Ark and were punished. www.sefaria.org/Bereishit_Rabbah.36.7 1 But the way of the Black One is crooked and FULL OF A CURSE. For it is a way of eternal death with punishment wherein are the things that destroy men's souls--idolatry, boldness, exhalation of power, hypocrisy, doubleness of heart, adultery, murder, plundering, pride, transgression, treachery, malice, stubbornness, witchcraft, magic, covetousness, absence of the reverence of aluahym; Epistle of Barnabas 20:1

This video does NOT help decrease the nonsense around skin color and curses within Mormonism. The “lamanites”were cursed with dark skin- what a load of nonsensical man-made thinking.

People with black skin were undecided as whether to come to earth to have a mortal experience. As white skin we were 100, 110% sure, and certain that we wanted to come to earth and have our earthly/mortal experience,- so we could progress. I think coloured people were given the chance because God knows/knew that they weren't opposed to it,- I.e. The Plan of Salvation, progression, mortality. I think I got this from The Encyclopedia of Mormonism,- on the byu website

@@johnsrcstuff7936 I never said you were. Could you be racist? Possibly. What IS racist is the comment you wrote above. Not only is it factually false, those who believed it usually were racists and looked down upon those of color and so called “inferior races”

Yo I think there’s good enough evidence in the Book of Mormon to see how blackness is strictly spiritual

I'm not so sure about that. The description really seems to include appearance. It's just that nobody can talk about this.

Yes, a darkened, or black, heart can be a curse, but a heart full of love and Christ-like attributes allows a light, white, heart, one of my favorite topics in the Book of Mormon.

It’s continually entertaining to listen to the droves of members who desperately try and explain away what we actually KNOW. There is no translational error in the Book of Mormon. A skin of blackness was the curse placed upon the Lamenites. Obviously, a skin of blackness today has ZERO to do with anything other than one is a descendent of those once cursed. My late father; who was a leftist (and therefore following Satan..which is a fact) once tried to claim that Hugh Nibley stated that the skin of blackness wasn’t that, but a heart of blackness. Of course this is patently (and factually) false. We know that God carries out curses from ‘generation to generation’ and that the American Indian’s of today still carry the ‘curse’ of not only the skin of blackness, but to be a ‘dark and loathe some people’. Are they wicked or evil? Of course, this is a silly question, as we are according to our hearts and actions. Goes without saying that quite obviously, there was a people in world history (perhaps we’ll learn of them when the second two thirds of the Gold plates are translated) that, like the Lamanites, were a beloved people of the Lord, and eventually transgressed. Goes without saying that an even darker skin was their curse, and their ancestors many generations later were still being punished for the sin of their fathers of old, just as Joseph Smith taught, that the Lord carried out condemnation for many generations to ‘justify’ the punishment. So, if you’re black, brown, or any other color of skin that the leftist believe to b oh-so-important in our day, it doesn’t matter. You are simply a carry over from a curse given long ago (in the form of a skin color change) and has exactly nothing to do with you as an individual. So, factually, Cain was giving a skin of blackness…not up for opinion or discussion. Blacks, Mexican’s, Indians, etc. are all the result of a curse that happened long ago. Again, we KNOW that all of us (God’s children) were white as the driven snow prior to this mortal life, and will again be the same when we are resurrected. Facts…they always win.

The reason the children of Cain are explicitly related to Canaan is Genesis 9:25-27, forever marking blacks a servile race: 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

I agree that the black skin is definitely not the curse, it was only so people could know for sure that they were the lineage of Cain because the Lord told Abram and Jacob and others of the seed of Abraham not to marry the Canaanite.
