When racing,even you wanna be the fastest but what Jimmy want to teach us is one simple thing..we are not alone on the track and we have to pay attention on what others are doing. If this is not meet crash is inevitable. :) Since its hard to spot such situation there is simple solution. Get volume up for other cars so you can hear them when aproaching. My best overtakes was at the outside of opponents car,not the inside. And even experienced driver can learn some new stuff. Keep them commin',Jimmy!

"Whether you mean to do it or not doesn't free you from responsibility" Great attitude tbh, and its why I get annoyed watching football whenever there's a debate about an "intentional handball". When you break a rule, crash into someone, it doesn't matter if you meant it, it only matters that you did it. The only difference is if you crash into someone on purpose that isn't a penalty, it's a ban.
@Brainreaver795 ай бұрын
i am bit late responding here,.. but i think your football comparison isnt quite as good... because depending on my skill i could just shoot that ball into/onto (not sure which is right) your "arm/hand" ...if it wasnt "intentional" wouldnt count because you still got hit, and i get the penalty

With the macca incident, switching the verdict because “lap 1” isn’t right. Yes it was right to put the blame on the other guy, but it’s because the overlap was there. Front tire to rear tire. The rules don’t care if it’s lap 1 or lap 54. Overlap existed, soo ‘all-a the time you have to leave-a thuh space.’

Another great vid! Not sure about the Alpine liveried formula car at around 6.30 though. If they want to lock up, go straight for a bit and miss the apex by a mile, no rule says they can’t, as long as the leave track room for the car on the outside,

I really enjoy this series because, as a casual fanboy non sim racing degenerate, I see things from an audience perspective and not a racer's perspective. So there are little things (or sometimes blatantly obvious things) that I might have missed and hearing Jimmy explain the how & why of his decision opens my eyes to what's really going on.

A racing incident basically boils down to something chaotic happening outside of the drivers control (ie. you hit an unseen patch of oil/you suffer a mechanical failure which causes contact or you instinctively swerve to avoid someone else's incident which also causes contact with a third party), it can also be applied to situations where you were both in the wrong and you're the only ones who get inconvenienced. It doesn't just mean 'I didn't mean to' or 'that wasn't my intention', if you could have done anything to avoid the incident or something happened as a result of your mistake then you are responsible and will be penalised.

6:30 There's also a common misconception amongst F1 community that if both car are on track and cars on the outside turns into the corner giving enough space (usually being ahead) and got shunted by the car on the inside, its the outside car's fault for "turning into another car". They usually also use terms like overlap not knowing what it means. Ive seen a lot of comments like this after Max/Hamilton shunt, Perez/Russell in Austria, Albon/Hamilton twice and so on. But theyre absolutely wrong, if car on the inside has space and especially when car on the outside is ahead, car on the inside has to be careful to avoid contact as well, make sure to hit the apex and avoid understeering into another car. In their minds, what car on the outside is supposed to do? Go straight? It has to finally turn into the corner and if it stays on his line, gives enough space and guy on the inside crashes into him it doesnt mean that car on the outside turned into him. It means that car on the outside turned into the corner and car on the inside wasnt cautious enough. Max/Hamilton in Silverstone is a perfect example, Max gave more than enough room for Hamilton, but Lewis missed the apex, misjudged how his front end is gonna behave and understeered into Max. And some people say that Max should back off or go even wider to the left (he wouldnt even be able to make Copse going even wider, he would have to go onto the runoff or lift off massively). Why? Why for some people Max should keep going wider just because Hamilton understeers and its Max's fault because he didnt compromised his corner (good luck realizing that someone behind you is gonna understeer into you in a split second btw) Why people think that car on the inside dictates how car on the outside has to behave? In this case basically any divebomb would mean that car on the outside has to abandon turning into the corner and brake/go straight and that would be a fair move by the divebombing car according to some people's thinking. The actual "turning into another car" incident is the one with two McLarens in Canada, thats the type of incident where you can say that car on the outside turned into car on the inside, some F1 fans really need to learn how to recognize differences

With old mate in the last clip, one other thing to consider is the sharp right-hander immediately after turn 1 - there was no need to defend so hard because there's no chance the car behind would have been a problem 5 seconds later purely based on circuit layout!

I love that you keep pointing out in these that "being right" doesn't mean much if it you get to be right from a wrecked car out of the race on lap one. It's like when my Dad was teaching me to drive 20 years ago: The green light means it's legal for you to go, it doesn't automatically mean it's *safe* to go. Just because the accident was the other guy's fault doesn't mean you couldn't have avoided it and it's better to lose some time than be out of the race altogether.
