Perhaps the religious aspects of the Progenitor created an insular belief system, like "We Selkath were chosen to use the kolto wisely" or some such. If the Star map is Rakata force-attuned tech, then perhaps kolto might be "Force-bearing matter" or a variant of midichlorians?

Also let me add some things. Like iron replacing bronze on our world, bacta initially was a weaker, but more available product. Plus, since is a synthetic product, it could be easily refined and improved. There was attempts to replicate kolto in laboratory, but there was never any results. Kolto also started to lose effectiveness. Could still heal, but was weaker than a few decades before. It is assumed was the result of overharvesting, tgat led the world to produce aweaker substance to support the excess of demand. By that time, however, bacta was already a powerful healing agent, and most labs could safely replicate it. By the time of the clone wars, kolto was very effective once more. However, was expensive, since was a natural profuct from a single world. The army was relting on bacta for centuries, and it was easily accessible, so only magisters and naturalists were interested in it. By the Galactic Empire era, Manaan was invaded, enslaved, and converted on a resort for the rich. However, kolto was harvested heavily once more, and sold cheaply to the masses, until the reserves depleted. Without any reason to stay there, the Empire abandoned manaan, leaving the people in poverty. Would take decades for the kolto supplies to recover, but by then Manaan was forgotten and isolated.

All of this talk about joining the Republic and the Clones Wars made me wonder about what are the benefits of joining the Republic in the first place. Sure, the Selkath did this to themselves. But when it come to the other worlds, their reasons to leave during the Clones Wars are legitimate due to the oppression and mistreatments by the Republic. Plus, by the time of the Clones Wars, we only heard about the majority of the planets in the Mid and the Outer Rims wanted to leave the Republic again and again. So what are the benefits of joining the Republic anyway?

It depends on the period you're talking about. In the early millennia of the republic's formation, where like half the known galaxy had yet to even be discovered by the republic, & most definitely when the Siths were still an army, the republic had been much more sincere & involved in their dealings. Joining the republic at that period really did get a better deal at protection, other than the obvious benefit of getting way larger access to the galaxy for trade & stuff. That was back then, of course. We all know what the republic had been like for the past several hundreds of years before Palpatine came into picture.

@fabiocosta3830 Жыл бұрын
I heard one of the reasons kolto could still be marketed is the fact it was hypoalergic. There are races that require different types of bacta because of allergic reactions to the mix, whereas kolto could be administered to nearly everyone. Kolto had peaks. If was too harvested, the source would produce a weaker version, and would take time to recover. On the other hand, bacta could be synthetized in any laboratory with all the materials, and it would stay consistent as long as the formula was followed. Kolto started as the best, but bacta was more acessible, and soon took the throne and was improved enough to be better in general than kolto.

@@honooryu5374 Yup. The Bane novel also goes into it. When Darth Bane was a trooper he talks about how Kolto had become a last resort in the galaxy. Standard bacta treatment would get a soldier on the verge of death back up to strength in a day but Kolto treatment would take 5 days. When it comes down to it, both are miraculous but bacta is just better. Another key difference between them is that bacta is 100% manufactured and Kolto is 100% natural.
