Fish maw is the dried swim bladders that come from a large fish like Indo-Pacific king mackerels. But some restaurants also use fried pork skin. If it's 50 baht per bowl, that's pork skin. If it's 200-300 baht per bowl, that's fish maw. The fish maw soup you're eating today is probably a mix of both. If you want to eat real fish maw, you have to go to Yaowarat. Price per bowl is 300 baht or more. The difference between fish maw and pork skin is that fish maw is more chewy than pork skin.

Good kra-paw-plaa is quite pricey. You can find good dried fish maw in chinatown. Dried fish maw when cooked long enough in chicken broth mixed with starch absorbs the broth and becomes spongy when you chew. Usually, we add a bit of white pepper, crushed-chili vinegar, or the Chinese sour soy sauce (called "jig-chow" in Thai) to season the kra-paw-plaa. As good fish maw is not cheap, some street food vendors substitute it with stewed pork skin. But from what I saw in your video, I believe it was real fish maw. Great job!

Krapheaapla or fish maw is actually the part of the fish's air sac that helps control the buoyancy of the fish. It is one of the expensive components of Chinese medicine. Best of all, a sea bass' air sac can cost up to a million baht. If you've ever been to Yaowarat You may have seen it hanging on display in front of Chinese drugstores alongside shark fins. What you think looks like jelly is a fish air sac or what Thai people call Kraphaepla.😊

Krayasart is a traditional dessert that is made in September. It is a dessert for traditional merit-making ceremonies in Thailand. It is a dessert that has its own traditions and clear times. It is a dessert that has been around since the Sukhothai period and is thought to have been imported by Brahmins from India. The root of the word saratha comes from the Indian language meaning autumn. or during the late rainy season and beginning of winter This is the same time as the flowering and fruiting season of the plants. In ancient times, it was believed that the produce should be offered to sacred objects as an act of worship. The timing of this festival in India coincides with the rice harvest season in Thailand. It will be around September. Villagers stir up Krayasart to make merit and dedicate merit to deceased relatives. until it became a Thai tradition or the Krayasart Kanom Stir-Friendly Festival until now. You can call it the Thai Sart Day tradition. Krayasart is a symbol of abundant agricultural products. Including making merit to bring good fortune to the rice in the field. This is also the first harvest of crops.

Diggy, you sophisticatedly speak Thai. You really have intonation and the accent as well. Like you changed the tone up for the question sentence and you used the words "ค่ะ" and "นะคะ" fluently. @@danny_and_diggy yeah keep practicing, and keep saying "ค่ะ" and "นะคะ". It's like "please" in English. You may not know you have the accent like Thai natives. We call it "หางเสียง" in Thai. Your voice and intonation in Thai is charming. This could help you so much fluent in Thai especially when you ask Thai people to do something.

I used to work in the office at Ratchawat intersection about 30 years ago. Even though Bangkok had progressed by quite a lot since then but Rachawat did not develop as much as other places. It still retains local charm, the local food here always amazing. The market is basically the same as it was years back. This place is a hidden gem.
