The thing that impressed me most and showed Ohtani was indeed different was when he had his mind set on coming to the MLB straight out of high school and told all the Japanese teams not to waste their pick on him cuz he wont accept, but one team managed to convince him not through bribery or other methods but said that many former Japanese players benefitted greatly by playing in the Japanese league first and gained experience and Ohtani understood and accepted. Showed a level of maturity beyond his years.

You're correct but missed to mention the most important proposal by the fighters, to develop as a TWP. They convinced Ohtani to play as a TWP in MLB. That's what changed Ohtani's mind and decided to join the fighters.

“We played well on all phases of the game, but there are things we can improve on. But we’ll take the 50/50. It’s now on to 60/60”… Bill Belichick’s voice 😂😂😂😂😂

Great video. Thank you ❤ Even some of the Japanese ex-players criticized him for trying to do both. Some said he was under estimating professional baseball. Not only he became successful both ways in Japan, now he is the face of MLB. 😂 This is truly crazy but awesome ❤🎉

I think American baseball coaches should take a look at some of the coaching methods the Japanese and other countries are using. I dont think its a coincidence that Ohtani's small school in Japan has produced Yusei Kikuchi and arguably the greatest player of all time. Ohtani's high school baseball coach Hiroshi Sasaki's son, set Japan's hs home run record. He wouldve been the number 1 pick in the NPB draft, but will be going to Stanford instead. People talk about Ohtani's list of goals he made when he was younger, but its not just a simple list. In high school he was taught the Harada method, which he used in the NPB abd also in the pros. I'm not saying this is the only reason for his success, but they're doing something right

I think if the Dodgers put him back pitching it would be a giant mistake. His offensive production is more valuable than his pitching. I think top tier pitching is more common than this level of hitting. Dude should be a full time DH.
@stevechoe3006

If he ever stops pitching, he will play the field. He won't be a full time DH. And I can't agree that top tier pitching is more common than this level of hitting. The Dodgers don't even have an ace.

Nobody can fault those scouts. One can only evaluate what they see in front of them. It’s impossible to predict the potential of any player accurately. Ohtani is a 1 in 8 billion.
@stevechoe3006
@stevechoe3006 Сағат бұрын
True, but their mistake was judging him, or any player for that matter, based on spring training. I'll never forget that one NY baseball commentator saying that the Yankees were lucky that they didn't get him. Or a scout who said he belongs in the A ball. It would've been fine if they made those judgments after seeing him for a month or two in the regular season but they made those comments before he even swung a bat or thrown a pitch in a regular game.

baseball writers are just the worst. They never played a game except for tee-ball where they were looking for bugs in right field praying the ball doesn't get hit to them. BUT they sure as sh** know how the game is supposed to be played now that they are 60.
