As we waited for the storm to pass, the Bard and myself explored Skyhold. The Bard headed down into the cellars in search of the Inquisitor’s fabled wine collection while I headed to the garden hoping to find some medicinal herbs.
Protected from the outside elements, the garden was green and full of life, though it was easy to see that no one had tended it in a long time. Weeds and wildflowers had taken over the once neat borders and pots. Despite its unkempt state, it was a serene and calm place, and I sat down on one of the benches to simply take it all in. Having filled a couple of pages in my journal with my observations I rose and started following the pathway leading deeper into the garden. I was searching for elfroot among the weeds, when I suddenly came to a secluded spot with a pergola half-overgrown by wisteria. I stopped dead in my tracks at the sight of an elven couple standing there, surrounded by cascades of blue flowers. As I watched, the man, his face hidden beneath the deep hood of his cloak, walked away, following the path that led out of the garden and back to Skyhold.
The woman remained in the pergola, watching him leave with a mixture of longing and sadness on her face. My heart jumped in my chest when she suddenly turned to me, and I realized it was the Inquisitor!
“This isn’t the end of the story”, she said, her voice echoing softly in the stillness of the garden. Her words lingered in the air as she turned away, her figure slowly fading into the shadows of the pergola.
I blinked, and suddenly the scene around me changed. The vibrant colors of the flowers and the lush greenery seemed to melt away, replaced by the overgrown and untended garden I had first entered. I found myself back on the bench, the journal open to the page I had been writing.
Rubbing my eyes, I sat up and looked around, my heart still pounding from the encounter. Had I truly seen Solas and the Inquisitor, or had it all been a dream?
I gathered my things and stood up, casting one last glance at the pergola, barely visible beneath the wisteria that had claimed it. The Inquisitor’s words echoed in my mind, and I knew that they were true: the story of Solas and Lavellan was far from over…
