You’re island w the granite makes EVERYTHING possible in the kitchen. I’m a large family mom w a tiny old kitchen and it has become impossible to function and make scratch food often. I find myself having to cut so many corners. Even the simplicity of having a mixer that has space on the counter….I have to pull mine out from under the sink each time. It really does make all the difference to have a functional space. Great video! Loved it and the patience you had making it! You mentioned the trick to a cheap meal is using the left overs. This is so key. And many families have picky eaters that won’t RE eat something even if it’s reinvented. But you can’t large batch cook if you don’t use the left overs and they waste! Even one meals waste can cost $10 to throw to the chickens. Sad!

Make my own tortillas, too. I try to make 36 at a time but do not have a press so it does take a lot of time but because i make a large amount I freeze them in freezer plastic bags 12 to a bag and use as I need. I make my own pickles using dill, garlic not crushed whole pieces peeled and onions whichever u prefer they very good. You are a hardworking mother/ wife/ keeper of the home thanks for sharing and all the helpful tips! God Bless you🙏

Just a thought. If the tortillas are too thick using just the press, maybe try making the dough balls smaller. Extra steps use valuable time.

I used to help my grandmother pick mustard greens! She would make them with a little bit of fried bacon, butter, and garlic after boiling them in water. Super good!

I’m amazed at the variety of food your children will eat. I scratch cook for my grandchildren every day and they are much pickier eaters.

My mom would probably say my kids are picky. They’ve gotten used to things I cook but there is plenty they will not eat. I do however make them try at least one bite of new foods.

We just ordered the calf weaning nose ring, do you find it works really well? I love watching a fellow ontarian living the homesteading life. Makes it so much more realistic to me.

It really depends on the calf, we have had calves that never nursed again as soon as it went on and others that figured out how to work around it and we had to separate them. I hope the nose ring works for yours 🤞
