Lots of unanswered questions, (1) do you not have family in the US? What are you going to do when your aging parents require care? Do you not have brothers and sisters? Do they now have to come to you if y'all want to see each other on something other than Zoom?, (2) You didn't mention where you got your citizenship, presumably Portugal?, (3) You didn't talk about the exit tax for people with a net worth exceeding $2M.

I totally get it… but WE are not faced with an isolated/centralized problem in the US… this is a global problem… therefore, at some point in time, there is NO WHERE to run, talking with your feet sometimes means standing your ground, rather than tucking tail to run away… think about that as a paradigm shift as a Christian. You may think covid protocols were stupid, and many were but its easy to criticise from an island in the middle of nowhere. Some of us had to operate in dense environments with many people around. I saw many quite ill people every day and I was grateful everyone was taking precautions. The amount of pink people not feeling the sharpness of winter as they were in full on fever was astounding. These people were NOT well. Employers were not doing the right thing and REQUIRED government intervention. This became quite evident.

I brought it up last time, but question for you two: Why didn't only one of you give it up? If one of you stayed a US citizen and ran your taxes through the non citizen you could have always had the option of going back. Go through the green card process for the one that didn't have it. Let's say you wanted to be near family etc etc in 10-30 years again. I get that you're happy now but you may one day want to "live" again in the US if it did ever turn its self around with the way things have been.

Whether to renounce... or not... depends more than anything else on where & how one earns one's income. If a person is able to generate substantial income from sources outside the US, and if he (or she) will suffer no loss of income upon renouncing, there is then a strong case to be made for renouncing. As for myself, I took a career path that made me highly dependent on... and inextricably linked with... the US economy and financial system. No renunciation for me (unless the US becomes like North Korea).

Renouncing US citizenship does not relieve a person of liability for US taxes or penalties incurred before the loss of citizenship. @pumuckl0
@pumuckl0 3 күн бұрын
@@jeanniesilva6741 Just buying real estate or renting in itself is not enough to get residency or citizenship. Citizenship by investment is one way of doing it, but you need a lot of money to make the investment and buy the real estate required by the program without financing. Those programs range from $250k-$1mil, but at least with the real estate programs you get real estate that you can live in or sell later. If that's not your price bracket, you should look into citizenship by descent, sponsorship for occupational shortage jobs (that's how I got my second citizenship) or paths through the digital nomad visa (like Italy citizenship after 10 years in the program).

@@pensionnewschannel5176 from another answer: Toby is a german now and his passport is a better one than St.K+N or even Portugal. Crypto Tips seems to bank on the simple preference you better renounce US and whatever the new citizenship will be is of secondary concern. you can always do CBI for additional citizenships within months and then aim for citizenship of the capital players on long term. in their scenario Toby is german and Heidi might turn portugues soon-ish. you are welcome with any passport of those two to seek for residence permits AFAIK and you are not in need of another citizenship anymore.

At the end, did they say it costs 250,000 to renounce?

WoW! Reading the comment section is nothing short of quite astounding! Let me pass no judgement so I will not be judged. I honestly, would have have a few questions but I doubt you would or could answer in the wide open Internet. But who knows with a great deal of luck I may run into you somewhere. Maybe in Portugal. Given my much riper age than yours, I only discovered crypto in 2021. Unfortunately... Good luck and above all good health on your journey. God bless you two. You Guys are one of a kind and fabulous.

You can travel to all of those places with US citizenship. Lots of people around the world dream to be US citizens. 2 less people we need to provide social security and Medicare for. I'm making so much more money here in the states than I could as a 52 year old man anywhere in the world. I never locked down in the states. I got tons from the US government from it. I used my covid money to buy bitcoin. Goo's luck.

Awesome well done. Are you still liable for tax by the US government.
@pumuckl0
@pumuckl0 3 күн бұрын
@@EmpowerWave-ol2ol You have to file a last tax return when you renounce and you must pay if you owe anything then or in backed taxes before they will approve your renunciation. Renouncing does not rid you of any tax liability you have.
